    A+ vlog Erin! Good vlogging is literally the fundamentals of reading/writing stories that I teach my second graders. I teach a writing lesson called “show don’t tell,” one on how story structure moves the story along, and a lesson on smooth transitions. Even with knowing all the basics there’s definitely still an art to it, like you said. I know the science but sometimes I forget once I pick up the camera, and I’m still working on the art. I’ve gotten so many golden nuggets from your channel. You’re a great teacher!

    • @12stokes
      @12stokes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfectly said. I'm not a fan of vlogs where there's more talking than action. Some people will post 40 min. vlogs where they talked to the camera for half of it.

I feel like I'm acting arrogant and narcissistic every time people see me videoing myself. But this video just goes to show you that it is not arrogant and narcissistic. It can be very helpful to other people to show them your life and how you go about doing things.

I have had a YT channel for awhile now but recently decided I think it would be so fun to have a vlog and since then I have forever have been searching for the right "HOW TO...." to actually understand and get started making the videos. It truly is all about connecting with the person in the vlog. This video was so helpful, thank you for making it! Now to search and see if you have one on how to start recording vids, as a newbie because idk if its one long running video or bunch of videos you piece together, edit it and all the jazz to make the video and post. Thank you for helping me build ground up! Cheers!

    • @TalkinWithTonio
      @TalkinWithTonio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I would say pick the most interesting parts and try to tailor it around a central theme or topic that is searchable good luck!!!!

    • @AimaOj.
      @AimaOj. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Watch all the footage and mark the time frames of the most interesting and relevant parts. Cut out the umms and ahhs and unnecessary explanations then watch the footage again. Keep cutting down on anything you think doesn't add so much value to the audience. You don't want people to run from your vlogs when they see the long time loop.
      One tip is to see yourself as your audience. If you were a random person on TH-cam, would you give your time to watch all of that stuff if someone else put it out?
      Give the vlog a break say a day or two and then come back to watch it. You'd have a fresh perspective of things and possibly see more stuff you need to cut out.

    • @VictoriaVaden
      @VictoriaVaden 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You have to figure out your editing ”style.” definitely cut out the dead space and ums. Watch your favorite vloggers so you get inspiration to figure out what style you would like to do. And then just start doing it. You'll figure it out and start learning by doing.

    • @TheRichardsRevealed
      @TheRichardsRevealed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Start with the question....what do I want to do / accomplish today. Pick the most interesting thing that your viewers might enjoy and film around that.
      Example: I need to get a hard drive
      I need to get a hard drive, why because my hard drive is about to crash, and I could lose my footage....then end with, you got the thing you wanted and how do you feel.
      Vlog complete.
      You may have gotten food or went to target in the process and you can sprinkle in a clip or two of that but the main thing is have a "story:
      Beginning, middle, end.
      Someone (you) wants something and what they did to get it.
      Another example would be, You want to try a new recipe....same thing. You want to try this new recipe, why...because its suppose to be fire....but are you going to do it well.....then the end would be how it turned out.
      Try to focus on one thing to make the video about.

      @akiwifer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hit It Dee I agree with what was said before me. What I also found helpful was to make a shot list or a list of things you want to film so instead of recording at random you know when to film and when to turn it off.

    Hey Doll! I am sooo humbly grateful for you sharing your wisdom. I never knew that vlogging was more than just picking up a camera or a phone and start recording. This has really helped me a lot. I’m struggling with vlogging and I needed this so I’m just going to save it so that I can keep going over it again and again
    Now I know how to transition properly and how to give an overview
    Pls drop more gems

    I was struggling with whether I should continue vlogging, which is so slow as far as growth goes, and giving information (DIY and Crafts Only). After watching this, I'm not choosing. I'm doing both! So glad I came across this video!

    Thank you for these tips Erin! I love vlogging and I can't wait for my following to grow. I already do a few of these tips and will implement the rest. I am a nurse so it's hard for me to vlog sometimes because I don't vlog inside of my work place but I do incorporate nursing in other ways.

    The tip I need to work on the most is playing with angles and showing more of my environment, etc. I struggle most with this because I don’t think my environment (my college dorm in Jamaica lol) is “aesthetically pleasing.” So I lack confidence there. Then, people always stare when you’re recording in public. That’s always awkward haha. But I’m definitely going to try my hardest to implement these tips. I love that you give real, applicable tips, no fluff! Thanks for sharing! ❤️❤️
