      NWR1991 Actually, it’s no surprise that you used James’s sad face on Edward. In the first place. It was used on Edward for the first episode focusing on him in season 1, but for some reason they favored using it on James after that.
      Would I be correct that you were doing this as a sort of tribute to the times when they still used models and to the original producers at Britt Alcroft Productions?

    I remember the Bluebell Railway held a funeral train last year for the passing of the founder, Bernard Holden. Of course Stepney was one of the engines to haul it and this story certainly reminded me of that day, and he's pulled one or two other trains as such before. Nice to see a different, and 'realistic' approach to a very touching plotline. Good work and yes, I did notice the nod to the 'fan made movie' :)

    To quote Lemony Snicket, "If you have ever lost someone very important to you, then you already know how it feels, and if you haven't, you cannot possibly imagine it."
    I know how you feel, Thomas. I know the feeling all too well.

    Nice to see Thomas in a situation he usually wouldn't be in. Death I think is a subject not many people would think that it would work in a Thomas story, but it did. Very tastefully done

    • @NWR1991
      @NWR1991  10 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Well I kind of thought about how Rev.W.Awdry says that Thomas is like the 'inner-child' and so I thought up how children would deal in a situation about death and of course I've seen other kids shows that tackle that situation and did well in the end.

    • @NykRivas
      @NykRivas 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      NWR1991 Sesame Street taught children about death when Mr. Hopper passed. Peaceful passing as well as intense scenarios like murder and suicide(or attempted) have been straight up portrayed in kid shows, but if portrayed with seriousness and morality, things will come out well in the end. They should never be for the sake of humor, which the recent Spongebob seasons have set horrible examples.

    • @elirosen1391
      @elirosen1391 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      NWR1991 Its interesting that the Rev. W. Awdry never wrote a story for the railway series that involved dealing with death. I read he was going to removed Henry from the series, but only because he was frustrated with C.R. Dalby's portrayal of him in his old shape.

    I know how Thomas feels in this story right here, and in a way, I've been in his wheels, because my American Red Cross supervisor had died on March 31st this year.
    I had never felt so sad, to a point where I wanted to relinquish my volunteer work from the Red Cross.
    And I still miss her so much, the same way Thomas now misses Mrs. Kindley...

    I am going to say that I'm glad you put this up, especially since a short while ago, my grandma (from my dad's side) had passed. It does help me to cope with it.
    One thing I will say, though, about Gordon's speech to Thomas about being realistic and accepting the facts... well, since Thomas probably hadn't fully let Mrs. Kyndley's death sink in at that point, I would have thought that Gordon's speech would set him off a bit, especially given how blunt Gordon sounded. I know that would have happened with *me* if *I* were trying to let a loss sink in. I know that sooner or later, we will have to accept that death is a part of life, but even so.
    All the same, I feel that this would have made a *great* episode for the TV series back in the Britt Allcroft era.

    • @NWR1991
      @NWR1991  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if you can come up with your own head canon, something I heard over the past year were you can make up your own interpretation in the story that happened 'off camera'. So you can say Thomas was set off a bit on his own and had a rough night, which will explain his tiredness in the next scene and he soon realises that yes he should accept the fact that Mrs. Kyndley had passed on.

    I never usually leave comments on youtube of praise, but this has made an accecption for me. This was extremly well crafted, and could be compared to the munitions episode of tugs. All the characters really came to their own in the face of a difficult situation, like how big micky was killed in that particular episode but in the face of his death each one had to carry on to save the other characters in the rest of the episode and see past the death. Furthermore highlighting the growing pains that anyone of any age goes through was a nice touch, seeing as Thomas in the RWS was the main character to portray a childs understanding of life lessons and how to be a better person. I also liked the historical link to funeral trains, that were common during the 1800s when steam was the main mode of traction. Overall a great episode and will be eager to see more of your work :).

      It's best not to know when you'll die. Worry will just build up in you for your whole life. Everyone has their time and whenever it is well all reunite edventully. LMG is right, there isn't any void or darkness we loom in after death. People have been through death and back so there's always more life to live forever.

    With the recent passings of Robin Williams and Joan Rivers, I felt this episode was tasteful in that it brings the tragedy of losing someone widely loved (even a fictional one) to those who might not understand yet that two lovely people who they only know in their capacities as celebrities and entertainers are dead. I also like the music you chose for this episode. I know I'm always saying what I think doesn't work about your episodes, but I think this one was done rather well, in both content and execution. I'll say it blatantly: Well done sir.

    My grandmother passed away 2 years ago from dementia. My grandfather died 3 months ago from COVID-19. This episode makes me think about them because my grandfather was big in to trains, airplanes, boats and anything that had a motor and moved. Personally I feel for Thomas

      Joe Sheppard Yes she was mentioned in the movie but in my own canon for this series, this was set during 2014, many years after The Great Race which in my timeline was set in 1968.
