IMO the best cancel hotkey is spacebar. You always have your thumb ready to cancel something.
Also : I never got used to using the same hotkey for different things by using the Alt Modifier thing. I think if you don't get use to it from the start, it's very hard to get used to it after.
Additionnally, I prefer using Alt for casting stuff on myself or to switch wards (Smart Double Tap).
I set cancel to tab and attack move to space. This is the best set up possible prove me wrong.

Don't you think moving the camera with your left hand and clicking with your right hand is optimal?? I can position the camera and click spells at the same time.

WASD for camera = horrible. You don't have any fingers available to do anything!
Camera should be with the mouse (Edge Pan with or without camera grip)

huh, i never thought about the fact my hotkeys could have gotten messed up at any point, but this made me double check and christ i'm glad i did and don't know how long i've had some bad ones
My keys (want opinions)
A: Attack, Q: Stop
SDF: abilities 1, 2, and 3
GH: abilities 4 and 5.
Space: Ultimate
WER: items
234: items
I believe it is a very fast and compact set up if you are used to use your piky (which I have donde since I played SC and WC3).
i got reported for scripting all the time, but I have never in my life been into low priority.
mine is
d,f,z,x,c quick cast and alt+s,c normal cast for items and v for neutral item quick cast
q,w,e,r,4,5 for abilities all quick cast
f1,f2,f3,f4 for select a courier, quick buy, courier delivery, open shop
mouse button 4 for voice chat
Space for alt modifier
middle mouse for camera grip
What is the meaning of "mouse4" "Mouse5" In Item section, and how to use it??
Gaming mice have buttons on them, 2 or more. You can set hotkeys for those buttons.
Honestly for you it might just be better to either use 123456 or zxcvbn whatever you prefer for items, its pretty intuitive and works well enough.

If youre a dota 1 player and used hotkey.
Your items should be alt q, w, e, a, s, and d.
Space bar for your camera hero.
1 and 2 to your hero as well and 3 for courier.
Mine is
"1,2,3,Tab, Caps, Space" for items.
", . -" for Select courier, Open Shop, Courier Delivery,
"Mouse Button 4" for neutral items

I know i come late to learn dota but the options changed since this video so im a bit confused for exemple there are an option to instead the right click to force attack that is click right on allay to: and then u need to choose 1) for following 2) for attack 3) for deny what's ur suggestion?
Whoa, I've never used Quick Attack, this setting is so awesome!
quick attack is a absolute MUST. Same with quick cast on spells like Viper's poison attack, or Drow Rangers's frozen arrows. Attack walking fast without quickcast/quickattack is a nightmare lol

I just wish there was a way to enable Quickast/Normal cast for specific Items, and not having to be bound to which slots I have set up as Quickcast/Normal cast
Yeah same i shuffle my items so much in game that it takes time to put items on their designated hotkey. Alt+qwas are quick cast and alt+ED are normal cast. I hope they change the legavy hotkey for drow though

Been playing since 2013 and still havent enabled quickcast. Really should get used to it.
I'm still playing on Legacy keys. Not optimal yet the most fun experience while playing dota. It never gets bored pressing 10 different buttons for invoker and earth spirit. 6k mmr tho mediocre for an immortal player

Bsj bro I know and feel what you say about the fingerprint thing but I figured the most optimal hotkeys and that's the system of hotkeys that allow for shortest distance traveled for my fingers. Not a genius thought just that there is one but the advantage is negligible

Hey BSJ, i got a question and a problem with the alt modifier. I put it on "G" now, but i cant ping in the "game screen" anymore, i can still ping on the minimap pushing my alt modifier, but not in the game itself, for example if i want to ping a neutral camp or a tower, or hold and use the ping wheel. Do you have a solution for that? Great job on this video btw! It helped a lot

i play on legacy keys so q is an unused key i have it bound to say ? in all chat. it has won me so many mids... enemy missed cs - ? enemy missed a rune - ? enemy missed a spell - ? . By the 6th minute they are already so pissed that you win by default.
I can't figure out how to keybind MOUSE5 and MOUSE4. I can't find this option in my corsair ICUE software. Can I use f10 and f11 instead? I didn't see those as default anywhere in Dota.

Can someone explain "control groups"? How do you set a control group? I don't see it anywhere in the hotkeys. Yet I see buttons to SELECT control groups ????
select hero or illusions, and press Ctrl + any key, to set a group. so every time you press the key, it auto selects those units.

Shit, I'm the only Dota player who's using unorthodox settings? Everyone enables auto-attack while me, I disable it, It's a habit that I got way back Dota 1 days. Quickcast I only use when I'm playing Mirana or SF. I really have to start changing my settings.

u cant double click a quickcast setup...u should active the smart key which required +alt to represent double click..for eg:ur tp is at no. 4...u click alt +4..if u double click a quickqast it will still go to ur cursor
