I think many men are taught that violence is a way to protect themselves and defend their masculinity. I think it's a fight or flight response to people who already resort to violence to confront their fears. I think it can be sad and speaks to the fragility of identity for someone who never had to confront their selfhood when challenged (fragile masculinity as a concept). If you have to have to confront that at an early age like us out queer people, you learn early that the stability of your identity only depends on your ability to accept yourself and not on the opinions of those around you or society's expectations. That's not always true for all queer people but I think it puts us at an advantage in that way to get started earlier on being able to confront our identity sooner. Some people never form a distinct personhood or come to understand identity and just conform to what's expected of them. Some people just fit in to what's expected of them, are never challenged, and never have to think about identity in that way.
Not just for males tho. I’m bisexual and mostly feminine. Whenever I go to straight clubs with my boyfriend, I have a very violent mindset. The girls are all so competitive and toxic, I have to either act the same way even thought I could careless about their “man”. OR I become very “YASSS QUEEEN!” Just to be accepted by them, so they don’t take me as a threat. But when I’m in a lgbt+ club, I feel so free and nonviolent, I can just be happy and be myself. 🤷♀️
I was born male (in the UK) and I've bought my first 2 dresses to wear I public as myself (not in a wig or drag) and I'm trying to build up the courage to wear them as I'm not in the most gay-friendly areas of the UK - thank you for raising the issues and fear that some LGBTQ+ people have :)
The hatred towards us in the LGBTQIA+ community is heartbreaking to me. I can say that it sometimes comes from those who wish they could be a free and in love with themselves as we are!
@@stevennguyen4993 it’s almost as if Pride was curated to include all walks of life from all communities to gather together in their authenticity and not be judged. After being silenced, either socially or put to death for being gay, Pride is for everyone to be loud and proud about who they are. As you said, most people are private about their personal lives (which I’m sure you said that to focus the value of “privacy” onto straight people who want gays to be quietly gay) but the thing is, behind closed doors, regardless of sexuality or gender, people are doing things that you wouldn’t approve of if they were made public. Everyone has a right to be loud and proud about who they are, it’s not gay peoples responsibility to make straight people comfortable and it’s not straight peoples responsibility or right to choose how gay people express themselves. You can simply mind your business or at least be educated if you’re going to insert yourself into a persons life
@@balenciaugust6342 No. Compared to your innocent reframing of pride as the inclusion of all walks of like, the actual celebration of pride is the absurd hypersexuality of those who are outside heterosexual tendencies. @@stevennguyen4993 well said steven. unfortunately many of us were not able to adequately express ourselves in our youth and find the need to act out our adolescents in adulthood. Not sure what any of that has to do with pride anyways.
As a Glaswegian I'm so sad to hear about Katyas experience in Glasgow. Scottish people are genuinely known for being super friendly and kind, but I totally get the experience of coming across a group of drunken guys (or NEDS as we call them: 'Non-Educated Delinquents') late at night can be frightening, even for us locals!
It's not just neds though tbf. I've dealt with plenty of middle to upper class people on nights out or hanging out with family/ friends who get a kick out of mocking or questioning the existence of queer people. I find them especially annoying bc they can't blame hostile environment or lack of education for their ignorance, which is typically the case for folk you might call neds. Comfortable people are just bored of their lives and resent themselves for it, so they like to subjugate non-boring people for entertainment and ego.
Not trying to brew an argument or anything, but I was in Scotland way back in 2004, and the kids there were rotten. We were told that bullying was a real issue. Those kids would be in their late 20's right about now, and I can just picture them being the type of people Katya spoke of.
@@rirerose hey in 2004 America was also really rotten with bullies in particular all over Southern Cali so those kids age range's now 21-36 yes bullying was rotten ripe from grade school all the way up to high school but nowadays programs for anti bullying have been reinforced and a strong stance has happened. It's a turtle pace change but at the very least it's happening and I can say it's working because as someone who is 33 with a ten yearold son who got bullied for a rapid short period and when my sisters(his auntie's) n' nana steeped in with the school(they didn't let me go with them because they know I have a short fuse and will get loudly ghetto so yeah that is why I avoided going) they properly handled the situation with his school along with the bully and my son no longer gets bullied much better day's🌈💯🤗 I hope someday the school system in Glasgow would do something similar because trust my words the anti bully program does work and is extremely affective...
@@janejanejaney they don't do it because they resent themselves they do it because they think they're better than everyone else and no one ever taught them otherwise when they were young enough to learn, they think it's funny and that people who are different to them don't matter, the consequence their behaviour has on the people they harass doesn't matter to them because they genuinely don't believe it's important or worth caring about. They aren't really suffering for their actions which is frustrating to admit but it is true, the only way to make them suffer is to make the people they bully matter.

I accidentally came out to my mom and brother a week or so ago… my brother was being homophobic. Saying something about how he wouldn’t go to a gay person’s wedding. And I just felt so hurt and offended and before I realized it I said “well I’m bi. Would you not come to my wedding if I marry a woman?” And he said “no, I’d come to yours, but I’d sit in the back.” And he was serious. I feel lucky to have the support of my mom. She doesn’t do the warm and fuzzy emotions thing. She would never be one of those moms at a pride parade. But she’s very vocal when she doesn’t like something, and she was silent. My coming out story is so much better than a lot of people’s, and I feel grateful for that. But I think the shock of not only my brother’s blatant rejection and accidentally coming out like that I’m just kind of off kilter. Not great. Gay People Don't Make Gay People, Straight People Do. People don't usually just hate gay people out of thin air. Usually, the haters had a bad experience or they're battling with their own insecurities and tendencies. Like, if you go out of your way to make time to act out on your "homophobia" and over all aggressive ignorance, you're just trash. Find a Hobbie. I LOVE YOUR WORK TRIXIE AND KATYA!!! UHHhhh!!!!!
Huh... they hate gay people because they've been taught to. Our system caters to straight people in every aspect and that teaches people gay people are weird or wrong. Growing up no one does anything when there is homophobia in school so that plays a role as well. Obviously being straight up told homophobic beliefs also makes people homophobic too
Mama, people just have gay people out of thin air. Is a thing for a couple of millennia now. Everything that is different and go against patriarchy is hated by a Christian society
Incorrect. It usually is absolutely out of thin air. 0 reason, 0 justification. That's 99% of cases. The ol' "this closeted gay is acting like a homophobe to compensate" is very rare.
I can say that even as a woman, being dressed up and near drunken men can be dangerous too. The UK does still have a long way to go when it comes to feeling safe on the streets at night. Even in the cities, and sometimes especially in the cities. Drunk straight white men are the scariest here
Men are such fucking jokes. Unbelievable how quick they resort to bullying and violence when there’s a target they think they can take on without threat. It’s like this in every part of the world.
Amazing video, love Trixie and Katya! I have to say tho it was kind of a reality check for me watching this. I want to live and work mostly in the UK if I can but I sorta just realised that I'm only accustomed to my local homophobes/transphobes in Australia. Here, I know where I can go for help, I always have friends I can call if I feel unsafe and I'm finally able to walk past coppers without having a damn near panic attack. Now I guess I'll have to prepare to amass and transfer all that knowledge again for every new place I go to. Can't wait /s. Hopefully people might be a bit nicer and more accepting by the time I start travelling abroad.
As an Aussie who's family is from the UK and has travelled there quite a lot it really isn't noticably worse than in Australia, some places obviously are worse than others but generally people mind their business unless you're dressed super outrageously, and even then you'll get some people yelling at you but the threat of violence isn't more than it is over here. Transphobia is definitely worse to be fair, I've never witnessed any street harassment but the laws around trans people are nore discriminatory, so if that's a concern for you it might be worth waiting and assessing how things go, but general homophobia isn't that bad. The worst stuff stems from lad culture which while I don't know if there's an Aussie equivalent term we definitely have a similar culture here, if you can handle that you'll be fine in the UK
@@lilmistermoi Yeah I mean as with anywhere, I did kinda figure that it depends on exactly where in a select place you are and when you are there. Just the same as someone may feel that level of fear or insecurity where I live but I wouldn't necessarily agree from my personal experience.

He doesn’t even post anything suggestive of him being gay but he’s constantly harassed by these old creeps calling him a twink & offering him money for nudes. Totally inappropriate & unwarranted for a 15yr old boy.
@@rileynatalie Make sure you report them. There's way too much spam and sock puppet accounts on various social media that makes even a minimal amount of time on it suck.

@@rileynatalienot to be that person but if ur son is not posting anything remotely gay he wouldnt be getting dms from old men💀 ur son is either entertaining these old men’s creepy thoughts (which i 100% did as a young gay teen) or he’s truly posting his twinkness for the world to see and its just inevitable. i know its problematic but we gotta be real, young gay men are susceptible to this stuff

Patriarchy is a HELL of a drug...
i think you're spot on with this comment
I just love your comment, I wanna be able to read it every once in a while.
This is such a wonderful, insightful comment. I'm glad to have read it.
Wishing you best of luck! I hope you feels safe and beautiful wearing your dresses!!
Sending you love, from a UK gender bender !! Rock those dresses 💛

Again, butt cheeks, chokers, leather straps, and waving your tongue between two fingers is not a "curation to include all walks of life." Public pride events is not a place I'd want to bring my 5-year-old cousin to and tell them "this is what gay is, this is what gay represents, and being gay means you can do this and no one can stop you."

@@stevennguyen4993 well said steven. unfortunately many of us were not able to adequately express ourselves in our youth and find the need to act out our adolescents in adulthood. I was in DC just this weekend visiting family and it was pride weekend. The amount of butt cheeks in public was just trashy, and unneeded. People also have a right to not expect nudity in public.
I appreciate the term NEDS & feel like it needs to be used in more places 😂
It's a turtle pace change but at the very least it's happening and I can say it's working because as someone who is 33 with a ten yearold son who got bullied for a rapid short period and when my sisters(his auntie's) n' nana steeped in with the school(they didn't let me go with them because they know I have a short fuse and will get loudly ghetto so yeah that is why I avoided going) they properly handled the situation with his school along with the bully and my son no longer gets bullied much better day's🌈💯🤗
I hope someday the school system in Glasgow would do something similar because trust my words the anti bully program does work and is extremely affective...

What Katya said about glasgow is kinda true, I’m a gay guy (sometimes dress kinda fem but not overly) and me and my friends get shouted at sometimes so I can imagine why they told her to not walk to the venue
I was glad Katya kept saying that it was unsafe after the interviewer tried to make light of it. It seems like he wanted her to laugh along and say "yeah the States are much worse."

@@johanvajse8410 yeah I’m sure there are places that are waaaay worse than here but it still goes on sometimes, the Uk in general and particularly places in Scotland have a very toxic masculine “lad” culture which is very scary to be around if you aren’t a straight person

A few years ago I was watching Trixie's insta stories and the next ones were of a popular Miami barber I used to follow. Coincidentially he was recording Trixie walking right outside of his shop in full drag; they were laughing loudly and calling her names. In the last story the guy zoomed in, Trixie looked at the camera and walked away in silence with a sad look on her face.
That was a very shocking thing to witness and I remember thinking: she's white, she has money and fame and she could still get hate-crimed at any moment just for existing while queer.
Ugh. Some straight guys are so toxic

Huh... they hate gay people because they've been taught to.

I’m from Glasgow, it isn’t as bad as they make out. Plus our queer scene is thriving x
