    I saw a video here on YT where a guy settled the debate of letting the wheel cut the metal compared to just grinding the wheel into the metal and forcing it to cut. He got 6 cuts through the metal by grinding it into the metal before changing the cut off wheel. Then he let the wheel do the cutting and he got over 20 cuts letting the wheel do the work. Changed the way I cut things from then on.

    3 cuts should get it ! Cut top off, cut down the side then another cut closer to bottom edge. Pop motor right out.

    I'd drill a hole in the bottom to drain the oil first!!

    To me personally, I'm just a hobby scrapper. I just don't think they're worth cutting open unless you have a mass quantity of them and nothing better to do. Every one of them are different, different line sets, different weld patterns. Cutting wheels aren't cheap ! Good teardown brother. Hope it's worth it for you!!!

    I think if a guy had a plasma cutter it would be worth doing, without one not so much :-) Great video! Seen the sticker!

    There is always a profit to scrap em out but at the same time is it worth the time and the mess that's up to the individual scrapper

    Drew, the diamond blade is for cutting tile and glass. The blade's that I use is the GoYounder Metal, Stainless and aluminum oxide $26.95 for 50 blades so they cut good the cost is not bad at all. The best way is to make a "I" cut on the compressor and the motor falls out what you might say. Good luck and let me me know when you are coming back to the mountains ? Looking forward to having another cup of coffee with you.

    I use a dual voltage plasma cutter to cut the a/c comps open. And go yonder cut off wheels to cut thinner metals. I also use the same disks to cut one of the crowns off. Then an impact hammer to remove the rest of the copper.the most I have gotten out of an a/c comp was 7 lbs

    the fastest way to cut them tall skinny compressors are to..make 2 vertical cuts.. 180 degrees apart about 2 to 2 1/2 up from bottom and about 1 inch from the top . then cut across the side just about the copper tube elbow fitting connectting to the 2 vertical cuts.. then rotate the compressor 180 degree then cut across the side connecting the 2 vertical cuts.. after cutting the 2 pieces will ressemble the letter. " L" and the top portion will resemble a upsidedown letter "L"

    Quick way to do them cut around the top ....the cut around the bottom to free the middle part with the motor and then cut down 1 side of that middle part and motor should just pop out

    A plasma cutter works best which is what I used at the scrap yard I used to work at but can also use a good quality grinder disk or a good saw-zall blade I think the last one I used was the Diablo for cast iron which is what I use now cause I'm to cheap to buy a plasma cutter lol

  • @steveherr450
    @steveherr450 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I cut all mine open but i use a plasma cutter. pretty fast that way. i think it is worth it. even the bigger yards here cut them open when people bring them in whole. they must think it is worth it plus they are paying a guy to do it on top of that. if i had to use a sawzall or a grinder or even a torch, i probably wouldn't but like i said i use a plasma so it opens up like cutting butter with a knife. first few takes a learning curve to do it efficiently but when you learn them it is easy money.
