It was one of the first. BTN used alternate channels to show multiple games at noon on that day. I wish they still would given what streaming allows for these days. Nobody is going to watch Minnesota vs Rutgers play at night who wouldnt have watched them play at noon anyway.
bnx back then they were in the D1AA commonly referred to as the FCS. Which has a much larger playoff system and smaller schools with no bowl games. They are now, since 2014 are in the FBS. I don’t see how this is a hard concept for you to grasp.
bnx they went from 1AA to 1A the distinction is important. They were playing in the southern conference and now they play in the sunbelt. They moved up. They moved up. There is a huger difference between D1 and D1aa
Anybody remember that Kansas went 12-1 this year, in 2007? And Stanford beat USC. And LSU won the National title despite losing two games. This was a weird (and great) year for college football.
Illinois also made it to the Rose Bowl without playing in the Big 10 championship and only with a 9-3 record going into it, which only happened due to unusual circumstances. That definitely was a weird year.
Aidan Boyle Navy beat the Irish for the first time in 43 years, snapping the longest streak in college football history (I think). Yeah, it was an odd year to say the least. Great? Depends on who your team is. I hated every second of that season. This was a great moment, though. Being a Notre Dame grad, naturally it's my duty to despise 2 teams above all others...USC and Michigan. Fuck them both, forever! *Go Irish!!!* Beat Michigan!!! *LOVE THEE, NOTRE DAME.*
Michigan fans were calling national sports talk shows and running smack on App State for a week before the game. They shut the hell up after that. This is what happens when you don't take an opponent seriously. App State had one hell of a good program at that time.
So, essentially, it's a David and Goliath story, with App State playing the role of David and Michigan playing the role of Goliath. And THIS ONE NEVER GETS OLD. I'd give ANYTHING to go back to that magical 2007 season. And to think, last season, they beat #6 Texas A&M on the road... how far this program has come.
I read somewhere a few years ago that Michigan was actually supposed to play Hawaii in the Big House in week one, but instead elected last minute to play Appalachian State. I'm guessing they were scared to play Hawaii that year, as that was the year of Colt Brennan and their undefeated season. Took the L anyway though.
lmao still curb stomped ND 38-0 w ryan mallet at QB, won @MSU down 2 scores in the 4th, beat top 10 PSU team without conceding a TD, and then beat tim tebow’s florida that year. 2007 one of best years in college football history.
glowou You know it. Ohio State went on to play for another natty, but lost to LSU (lost in natty the previous year to a Florida team coached by Urban Meyer).
My favorite part of this upset is thinking about that smug Michigan fan at 1:25, and what must have been going through his mind as this whole thing unfolded.
They went for 2, not once, but TWICE. This is why you never go for 2 until the game is absolutely on the line. That cost them from sending the game to overtime where they probably would have prevailed.
@@zqglass PSU Barely survived lol App State wanted two hot videos. Btw, I am a Michigan fan but I'm young and don't remember this game but I respect App St
@@ethankibbey1976 I know man! We had it in the bag but Penn State woke up just in time. Still worth the trip, and it was the quietest 107k people i've ever heard in my life when App took the lead with less than 2 minutes to go.
@@zqglass App State is overrated, I love the pin that is put on any team not in the ACC, B1G, B12, SEC, or PAC12 that is "They aren't a power 5 team and don't stand a chance". Us fans of big schools get cocky and we need those teams to put us in our place and bring us back down to earth.
If you count Div. I against Div. I, I would say the greatest upset (and the least talked about) is when Syracuse beat No. #1 Nebraska at the Carrier Dome in 1984. Nebraska went on to an 11-1 season that year. Huge, huge upset, and in Lincoln the year before Nebraska beat Syracuse 63-7!
It has been 16 years since Michigan fell to Appalachian State. Will Tennessee State pull off a wild upset of Notre Dame in a David vs. Goliath matchup?
Pro Sports Central I agree, but they have tons of talent this year and return most of their starters. On top of that, they played a 3rd string QB for the majority of the 2017 season
What game highlights should I do next?
2013 Iron Bowl
Pro Sports Central the game that cost OleMiss to go to the SEC championship, “Arkansas Miracle 4th and 25”
Damn you Lloyd Carr
Pro Sports Central college football teams playing twice in the same season
North Dakota State beating Iowa in 2016
This was the first sporting event in the then newly launched Big Ten Network. Immediately they got a piece of gold
Vdub Productions wow that’s interesting
Pro Sports Central it is, I didn't realize that until last year when I was reading, about the 10 year anniversary of that game
It was one of the first. BTN used alternate channels to show multiple games at noon on that day.

At the start when the commentator said Michigan going for a title
It's crazy because that Michigan team was stacked too.
App State: You were saying?
The win that started APP State’s climb to D1
Jesse Hood they were always D1
Trey Drew D1 and D1-AA are different levels of competition they weren’t a full D1 member at the time of that game.

Everything went just right for LSU that year
Illinois also made it to the Rose Bowl without playing in the Big 10 championship and only with a 9-3 record going into it, which only happened due to unusual circumstances. That definitely was a weird year.

Kansas was #2, USF was #2, BC was #2😂😂😂
The #2 ranking was bad luck that year
Many said that this was a “warm up” game
Not just the best upset, THE UPSET
Perhaps the biggest of all upsets in the 150-year history of College Football 🏈
Joseph Henderson I think it is
😎🏈

Paul Johnson Every team should take every opponent seriously.
They still are
Still do. Back to back Sun Belt champs and bowl wins.
Dexter Jackson killed that slow lumbering Michigan team. I will never forget this game.
i love how after blocking the kick the guy holds the ball carrier down like " nah man you gettin this dog pile"
???
15 years and nine days later, they do it again. This time, #6 Texas A&M on the road.
APP are the kings of upsets
It's what the midwest deserves after calling us appuhlaychian state for so long
Just noticed that the commentators did a good job on the pronunciation
I live in Wisconsin and have literally never heard someone say it that way.
@@rustybadger4367 lived in ia, we said it just like that, I dont anymore cus I live in Nc
I’ve seen pretty much everyone around me pronounce it as that except for me.
The funniest part about this game is that after the game, Michigan fell from #5 to out of the Top 25 completely 😂😂
I loved when everyone's reaction to this was, "where the hell is appalachian state?"
So, essentially, it's a David and Goliath story, with App State playing the role of David and Michigan playing the role of Goliath. And THIS ONE NEVER GETS OLD. What a crazy year this was. Michigan would be the 1st of many top-ranked dominos to fall in what was the “year of the upset”.

I'm guessing they were scared to play Hawaii that year, as that was the year of Colt Brennan and their undefeated season. Took the L anyway though.
HeRe_We_Go_CP3 I think hawaii at the time could’ve beat Michigan. So they played it safe and went with App which you know how it went haha.

Hey There ok who’s your team buddy ?
Hey There tOSU lost at home that year to ton zook’s illinois LMAO
Haha! As a Sparty fan, this game makes me happy

Sun Warrior bet your aren’t happy now that we kicked your ass
raddbruh L still lost to a Fcs team
Kurtis Drummond #MSU #Strive4Greatness #SpartyOn still just got your asses handed to you
Even though Michigan ended up beating MSU that same year?
Never gets old.

Going to App St @ Penn St this yea, hope its a great game. The Tennessee game a couple years back was a classic.
Zach Glass dude luckyyyyyy. I almost went to the UT game but it got moved to a Thursday. I was so upset cause we outplayed them.
That place was rocking until the game started lol. If youve never been to Neyland it's a must see stadium. I'm hoping Beaver Stadium is just as cool.

what they didn't mention pregame is that app state was coming off back to back FCS natty's. they were good
thank you so much for not spoiling this with some stupid background music!
Michigan was never the same after this game
Wow I didn’t realize how much has changed from then to now
“Michigan eyeing a national championship” ...yeah about that..
Mason Mahoney not so fast
Yeah, that won't happen. Ever.
I absolutely hated this day!! That whole year was a disappointment!
CHAOS COUNTRY WRITTEN ALL OVER IT. ALL STARTED WITH THIS ONE. #5 went down in their own building. The big house.
The year Michigan became little brother 😂
I heard a lot of the Michigan players were high or something. Don't know if it was true or not
Dylan the Villain they were all hungover
GO APPS
Appalachain State never beats Auburn in 1999 and LSU IN 2008
we do not talk about this
Awesomeness
He always pronounces it “Alpalachin State”. It gets on my nerves
So this is where Charissa Thompson was before ESPN
Back when politics weren't there.
Love it
Michigan will NEVER live this one down. NEVER!
2007 Stanford vs. USC
Seriously, this was NOT an upset. App State was the better team.
The Summer is OVER or should I said A DREADFUL Summer was REALLY FUCKED UP WWE BIG TIME in 2007.
Anyone could had beaten Michigan with that slow ass defense
This is what happens when you talk trash to a team from an "inferior" division.
Thom!!
42-27? Leads series with Ohio State? WHO CARES? That game will forever hang over their heads!
Dang Michigan didd
App state os one scrappy program
Can you make money making these types of videos?
Go blue, UM going 11-1 this year
Who will they be losing too
