I think I’m finally getting the hang of this machine! TAJFUN RCA400 in action!

  • Even with some hiccups- like low splitter pressure- it’s still impressive to use- it’ll truly make 2 full cords per hour with the right wood! This IS NOT the right wood! But I’m learning it’s personality- and it’s not very forgiving!

    Hammer time at the processor's splitting wedge. Sometimes a chainsaw was needed to cut it out. I remember those days. Not fun. It's one of the reason's we sold that Hakki Pilki.

      I’ve had to use a chainsaw more than once to free up a block. I have sent a video of the pressure gauges under load- apparently it’s just an adjustment to let the second stage of the splitter ram actuate. I’m hoping so!

      @@thelogfather5002 That adjustment sounds similar to what I had to do at the time. Once you dial it in, jamming will happen less. But will still occur, just the nature of the beast. Eventually I ran out of patience with processors. Just wasn't a good fit for our business model. :)

    Hi Jeff, 🤔 had to run when l finished watching your video!
    Even after time to think about your new spliter, I'm where you are. l do believe that there is something that is not quite right! You are very experienced with many splitters, you have made improvements to yours and know when there is a glitch !
    and your also right ✅️ that needing a sledgehammer to move a log through to be split is not right ! A sledgehammer would have been supplied if that was the case. Good luck, it was a good video, showing what your talking about ! We were counting how many splits you could get until you had to stop, not many! You think that you could cut & split log after log for hours.
    I do hope that you get help and can cut & split until your new trailer is fully loaded! It should be like that ! Over and over and over...
    Thanks for sharing 👍🏻.

    Adjusting the transverse levelling of the machine even slightly can have benefits to the smooth operation of the machine; operating the machine above the recommended rpm only really serves to damage it and needlessly heat the hydraulic oil. Steady pace wins this race!

    • @thelogfather5002
      @thelogfather5002  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m running it at exactly 420 rpm- it’s designed for 400-430. It needs a minimum of 35hp- I have 53.

      @@thelogfather5002 oh, I see. Sounded at this end like it was much faster than that, that must be something with the sound. Anyway, the getting the cut logs to land in the ram chute well can certainly be tweaked by adjusting the ‘level’ of the machine slightly, going from nearly always going bad to nearly always landing well. The knotty cuts are not so easily split with a six blade knife as you’ve found, better a two way, one long vertical with a recessed transverse knife if that is the only possible alternative. You’ll see too that the six way does not like dried out end butts, which I saw you had to turn several of during your session. These ends dry out and are harder to start to split than when you turn them into the freshly cut end facing the splitter. That’s more or less a law of nature, albeit one which is exacerbated by the six blade knife - something you just have to get into the habit of preventing! 👍🏻

    Your processor does work quite fast. I have a Hakki Pilke and it works fine for what it is. I need to sort the wood and cut out the crotches. My friend has a Bells (now Eastonmade) and he runs everything through his. The difference.... price, you get what you pay for. His was 5x the price used. Hopefully you can get a bit more splitting force without sacrificing speed.

    • @thelogfather5002
      @thelogfather5002  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always a balance between power and speed- and price too! Apparently it’s just an adjustment I need to make to engage the second stage of the splitter… I’ll know more later today

    Is all the wood getting delivered right off the splitter? No drying?

    • @thelogfather5002
      @thelogfather5002  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup- delivered right off the processor. I seek next years wood this year. I’ve trained my customers years ago that they need to dry and season their wood.

    I am sure you know that specs on any equipment are laboratory conditions. That processor will split a 16" diameter round, assuming is was perfectly straight grained knot free softwood. Do you have a tractor that meets the pto hp spec for this splitter? It would help narrow down the issues with your splitter.

    You have 50hp on this, the range road was 22hp? In theory you should be able to be twice as fast or twice as strong. So the new blue isn’t using the available horsepower efficiently. Needs a bigger cylinder and bigger pump or different pump configuration. I believe your new blue is running a 3” bore cylinder so unless the machine is running ridiculous pressure I won’t push aggressively.
    3” bore at 5,000psi the force will be 35,343#
    4” bore at 5,000psi the force will be 62,835#
    You have available 50hp you can move 15 gpm @5,000psi or 25 gpm at 3,000psi or 30 gpm at 2,500psi. Ans so on. It’s just math, some manufacturers use alternative facts, and fuzzy math.
