You should max defense and melee so you don't get one shot or run out of energy while dashing unless you have mink v2 or v3 because that reduces dashing energy take by A LOT but its a necessity to have max defense and you can max whatever else you want
make every v1fighting styles at 400, sooo u can buy v2 of it which is hard tbh, i only have 3 yet so far that have 400, dark leg, water kung fu and superhuman which took me 1 month, cuz i need godhuman for pvp. 2x exp will do the grind better to u so goodluck bro, have a nice day
btw, per 400 mastery, i think u need around 59M+ exp to get 400 so yeah, goodluck out there, u need to make all v1 and v2 (except godhuman that is v2) in 400

the damage was actually minimized bc of his bounty which gives buffs, and maybe he even had his haki on which also reduces dmg.
