Yes, you can definitely counter a right hand with the jab. As long as the opportunity is there and you know how to use the technique correctly, many things are possible.
Already answered in this video ;) For further clarification. It all depends on your body type. If you're short enough, get under it. If you're tall enough, shoulder roll and counter. It also depends on where you stand. If you're right in front of him, maybe you can get closer to smother it. If you're farther away or off to the side, you can backstep or just lean back.
Yes, I am demonstrating the shoulder roll using a simple drill to help teach the technique. Once you understand the technique, you can test it in live practice mode. It's no different from a beginner learning how to punch by hitting focus mitts, and then later aiming it at an opponent's head. But really, it's an easy technique. The point is to focus on the timing of the roll, not the blocking position of the shoulder.
thanks for the videos man these are amazing. I just started sparring and I kept eating right hands. I would either be too late and eat it by the time i try to slip or too close and not have good enough footwork to create the distance I needed to slip. Then I started doing what you showed in your other video, show them your face then show them the punch with a right hand right down the pipe. Not only did I land on them, but also made them much more hesitant to throw their cross. Can't wait to try these in the gym. Keep it up these videos are gems!
I really appreciate your videos... Im currently a undefeated Amateur.. Love your videos I watch em everyday I also workout everyday with my trainer.. Thanks keep it up
I will do my best to arrange what I can. The gym is always in use so it's not always convenient for getting high quality instructional footage in this manner.
Very cool stuff. I've been using most of these combos for a long time. Can you make a video like this for countering the jab and hooks? It would be very helpful! :) Thanks for all the videos.
DEFINITELY. Watch all the pro knockouts. I recommend watching heavyweights because they're a little slower for you to see. Watch Tyson knockouts....classic killer counter.
Hey thanks, great video's wish i found your channel b4...they left hook tips vid was amazing, that was teaching about tensing ur chest on impanct of before etc it was the exact sort of thing i was asking my trainer about but he couldn't answer it, and thinking about it every punch he and his fighters throw is a push shot, iv'e sort of felt that for a year or more i was right in snapping or whipping to mix up with push shots but he kept saying i was losing power..new trainer is in need i think
I use every single one of these. And not just me but you can find videos of pros doing it. Of course, it's not always going to be so obvious to the untrained eye because the more skilled the fighter, the more subtle the movement becomes.
Sparred this guy the last two Mondays. Sparred him yesterday and he gets me quite a lot with the right hand. I don't mind standing in there because while he's younger and faster he doesn't have the power to hurt me and I want to end up boxing in a close pressure/counter style of boxing anyway. He's good for me to practise the right hand counter against because he's my size but a little better than me but with little power. With that in mind, which one of these counters would you start with ? :)
The right hand trade? That's one of the most common knockout counters. Here, you can see the classic version of Rocky Marciano knocking out Jersey Joe Walcott with it! th-cam.com/video/npz7kFB4Vo4/w-d-xo.html
yeah i like that counter a lot i'm going to try that the next time i spar.. can you please tell me a fight in particular that someone got a ko using that counter?
Can you make a video for boxer's with boxer's fracture and how to gain that old strength of our hand back and the whole rehabilitation and healing process. Thanks.
Check out the Rodriguez vs Grachev fight, Edwin counters Grachev's right with a beautiful left uppercut which I think will be very effective. Ricardo Lopez uses that counter against a southpaw jab
At 1:18 the glove goes toward your left elbow region, and I was wondering if anybody had hit a persons left arm and given the opponent more force in their punch.
Search all the tyson knockouts. And just look for boxing knockouts in general. You will see it again and again. The thing is most people notice the punch but never the setup.
This is a boxing guide so I don't cover punches that illegal in boxing. I would say use whatever counter you think would work best against a similar punch.
Hey luv the vids could u explain the difference physically between loading up and not loading up, or how physically a thudding puncher differentiates from a snapping puncher, like froch and pacman? iv'e been boxing a few yrs but still find it hard 2 get what trainers talk about when they mention the physicality these issues, they never mention if ur tensing muscles thru a punch or stay loose until impact but they don't know the answer, i suppose different shots for different situations thx :)
That would be a lot more work than just recording a demo of me doing the technique in the first place. Because then I can do it slow, and do it from the angles that make it easier to see.
can you show a video on effective blocking? cause mine is always being blown away and its hard for me to retaliate back theyre much heavier than me and some what faster. so my eyes end up on the ground and i get this fear to the point my defense hinders my vision. so yea pointers on lessening incoming blows stance angle and how to stop there next combinations.. im 118 my sparring partners are exp. and weigh 132 & up
Johnny there is any counterpunch against body shots? When the opponent aim the head it is ok to slip/block it and counter, but I can't see how to slip/block a body shot and counter.
What you're experiencing is common. It's very hard to slip (let alone counter) a body shot because it takes a lot of effort to get your body completely out of the way. What you can do to is block & counter. Or throw a tighter on hook or uppercut on the inside of his punch and you'll see that his punch lands on your elbow while your punch hits him.
heres a method. on the same subject. right cross to the body. 1. drop down/block with elbow/ counter with left jab or hook or upper cut to the body coming in(depending on how the right cross is thrown). 2. drop elbow/counter with jab and lean to his right hand at the same time with ur right hand glove up or shoulder in to the right shoulder of ur foe. 3. twist left/ counter with left hook upstairs and duck with the hook/ step away or step in and smother a counter if any/ or follow up with a combo. all depending on how the right cross is thrown and ur opponents style.
How would you counter someone who can lunge in with extra reach? My friend and myself have been sparring and he can lunge in with a right jab and cross left if he deflects/punches my guard away from my chin. He also steps in and steps on my lead food to trip me and keep me in position to throw the left cross.
Hey Johnny you should make a vedio on overhand right counter combinations. Something I have rarely seen on TH-cam. Notice how I said combinations not just single punch counters.also don't forget about the jab before the overhand. Thanks
@snatcher..throw a high jab ,that will catch his arm as hes coming in , at the same time squat down a little bit..counter coming up with a right uppercut
Well...everybody is trying to counter each other in fighting and the one with the better skills will probably win. Sometimes it has to do with a style advantage as well. But to be short...I would say try to do something else if what you're doing isn't working. Throw punches to hurt your opponent but try to throw them in ways that make them harder to counter.
I want to see him actually spar someone in the ring.
Yes, you can definitely counter a right hand with the jab. As long as the opportunity is there and you know how to use the technique correctly, many things are possible.
You make the best boxing videos. Thanks.

THANK YOU.
Thank you Ondrej!
Seriously... I bloody love all of your videos and they were super helpful.Keep on great work..Greetings from Czech Republic
Definitely in the works. I did it for the right hand first because it's the scariest punch to defend for many beginners.
Great material. Thank you Sir.
Glad you liked it!
Awesome. Keep working!
Very weird. Can you check it again? And also try with another browser too?
Thanks, I learned a lot. I wrote all of these down so they can be used in practice. Appreciate it, my friend!

i love this channel
It's a good thing. You should try it.
love it, lots of content in a short video.
yes

hunt is so short he can only rely on counters. its the only/smartest way he wil win. love this channel
Weird...the site is working for me. What browser are you using?
On the way!
Great pointers as always. This is really useful information. Thx :D
Thanks Bro i really enjoy all your videos they are excellent and i have learned alot.Keep up the good work!
It depends on what you're trying to do next. Unless I'm trying to follow up with something specific, I don't like to be any closer than I need to be.
Thanks guys
I really appreciate your videos... Im currently a undefeated Amateur.. Love your videos I watch em everyday I also workout everyday with my trainer.. Thanks keep it up
Great tips
That will have to be another video.
I will do my best to arrange what I can. The gym is always in use so it's not always convenient for getting high quality instructional footage in this manner.
Amazing. I love it
awesome
I'm very glad to hear that! :D Can't wait! :)
Ty
Good stuff thanks
Awesome Video..... Thanks bro
Very cool stuff. I've been using most of these combos for a long time. Can you make a video like this for countering the jab and hooks? It would be very helpful! :) Thanks for all the videos.
Yeah with a partner, good video for the visual understanding. Thank you
DEFINITELY. Watch all the pro knockouts. I recommend watching heavyweights because they're a little slower for you to see. Watch Tyson knockouts....classic killer counter.
great vid
im a thai boxer so some of these will work and help. thx!
Great video, thanks :)
Very good right counters, how about for right o left jabs please.
Verry good tehnic :] thx for this video is what i am need .. sorry for my english

Yes, I do. But they're not publicly released.
Any examples of pros using #4 during fights?

You're looking in the right direction. Keep asking the right questions and you'll find the right answers.
Hey, johnny not sure, but do you have a video discussing hand and knuckle conditioning for boxing?
you're welcome!
Have there been instances with the check hook where the opponent gives the hooker more force into the punch by hitting the elbow after connection?
It won't be my next video but I do have plans to do this in the future.
Check out the Rodriguez vs Grachev fight, Edwin counters Grachev's right with a beautiful left uppercut which I think will be very effective. Ricardo Lopez uses that counter against a southpaw jab
Thanks, man! I sent you a PM btw. Read it when you can.
Why isn't the counter left hook thrown more against the right hand in boxing?
Can you upload some videos of you sparring and sort of label what counters or techniques you do
good knowledge. do you have a 'how to maximize your power punches as much as possible video'?
danilo osiris Not in those terms, no.
Can you link the article, but what do you think about the mental thing
At 1:18 the glove goes toward your left elbow region, and I was wondering if anybody had hit a persons left arm and given the opponent more force in their punch.
That's a tough one. I don't know how to recover from boxer's fracture. Have you seen a doctor for that?
What about street punches like hamer etc?
Thanks :)
what brand are those white par of gloves??
Search all the tyson knockouts. And just look for boxing knockouts in general. You will see it again and again. The thing is most people notice the punch but never the setup.
"Fighting". You can get them from TitleBoxing.
This is a boxing guide so I don't cover punches that illegal in boxing. I would say use whatever counter you think would work best against a similar punch.
Why not? And yes, weight does affect your speed. Especially if it's fat weight that doesn't help you move.
Mark Hunt is an example of a fighter who uses those counters a lot! Look at his fight against Stefan Struve!
does that counter at 2:12 work a lot?
That would be a lot more work than just recording a demo of me doing the technique in the first place. Because then I can do it slow, and do it from the angles that make it easier to see.
can you show a video on effective blocking? cause mine is always being blown away and its hard for me to retaliate back theyre much heavier than me and some what faster. so my eyes end up on the ground and i get this fear to the point my defense hinders my vision. so yea pointers on lessening incoming blows stance angle and how to stop there next combinations.. im 118 my sparring partners are exp. and weigh 132 & up
Watch my video on how to throw snapping punches.
@expertboxing What are your opinions the best ways to defend the big looping overhand right? like the one that Mayorga made a career out of...
Jab overhand right counter because I see this in lots of ametur bouts
Can I have your punching speed at 280lbs does my weight affect how fast I can be?
alright sounds good thanks
Haha! Any chance you would make a video on a stance for hitman style?
What about the short inside right? I can't seem to defend against short rights when infighting...:(
+kickapowwww what type of punch is it? hook? upper? overhand?
I would like to see a video of you sparring with someone and demonstrating some of your technique could that be your next video?
Start with the first one, and work your way to the last one.
How did you get to apply the left hook when generally you don’t stand too close to opponent
Certain angles help reach better. But also…your question kinda answered itself.
Look around my site and you'll find it. Scroll to very bottom to choose the category.

expertboxing Thanks man, it worked. We both get hit, but he get dizzy before me :)
Hahaha, awesome!
heres a method. on the same subject. right cross to the body. 1. drop down/block with elbow/ counter with left jab or hook or upper cut to the body coming in(depending on how the right cross is thrown). 2. drop elbow/counter with jab and lean to his right hand at the same time with ur right hand glove up or shoulder in to the right shoulder of ur foe. 3. twist left/ counter with left hook upstairs and duck with the hook/ step away or step in and smother a counter if any/ or follow up with a combo. all depending on how the right cross is thrown and ur opponents style.
are uppercuts good for a street fight?
How would you counter someone who can lunge in with extra reach?
My friend and myself have been sparring and he can lunge in with a right jab and cross left if he deflects/punches my guard away from my chin.
He also steps in and steps on my lead food to trip me and keep me in position to throw the left cross.
This is a good question. Your friend is southpaw?
@@expertboxing yes he is southpaw and I'm in the orthodox stance.
Step to your right.
Hey Johnny you should make a vedio on overhand right counter combinations. Something I have rarely seen on TH-cam. Notice how I said combinations not just single punch counters.also don't forget about the jab before the overhand.
Thanks
You want to see punch combinations with the overhand right, is that right?
2:10 that is how Dong Hyun Kim aka Stun Gun won his last fight.
how can utilize my counter-punching as an in fighter?
Counter-punching is a possible option at any distance. On the inside, you'll have to find ways to make space for your shots.
When yo say practice, do you mean sparring or shadow boxing and doing some movements? Please help.
Why not?
@snatcher..throw a high jab ,that will catch his arm as hes coming in , at the same time squat down a little bit..counter coming up with a right uppercut
Well...everybody is trying to counter each other in fighting and the one with the better skills will probably win. Sometimes it has to do with a style advantage as well. But to be short...I would say try to do something else if what you're doing isn't working. Throw punches to hurt your opponent but try to throw them in ways that make them harder to counter.
Try them and all and let me know how you do!
2:15 Right cross counter is the best
Try different brands and see what you like.
