Thanks very helpful. Just been looking at the new Pro. Im a graphic designer who has been shooting social media content for about 6 years now. Like you I only do very basic grading that is turned round quickly. I just couldn't figure if Blackmagic camera are beyond my needs or skillset - so it was nice to hear your comments.
Blackmagic makes some very nice cameras. They have their limitations for sure. But if you learn them and how to use them properly, the images can be incredible
@@GearFocus is there a crop in 1080 - can I shoot prores in 1080 - I only shoot social media was going to get the 16-35 f4 because there's some stabalisation in it.
Thanks for the info . The braw files are sooo big my coworkers get mad at me when I use it. I wish ProRes stored the Gyro data for stabilization. This camera is heavy it feels like a 30lb dumbbell so my handheld shots are usually so shakey to the point they are almost unusable
Ironic that I'm trying to get my Blackmagic 6k to record flat / log, and the host shows up with crushed blacks. Like that's mandatory now for everybody except for me and my commercial clients.
Great tips bro. I really appreciate your time spent in showing us this. Really helpful timesaving detailed tips. Thanks from Panama City! (forgive my english btw)
I just got the blackmagic 6kG2 and I am new to blackmagic comong from sony, when i tried to test them, i seem to get a lot of noise when filming indoors in dark places even when the subject is lit well, very grainy. why is that?
If you are shooting BRAW, it is going to have more grain than what you're used to from Sony. RAW video doesnt have any built in noise reduction like the compressed codecs do.
I’m using this camera today for a music video shoot ! I’ve got 16-35mm EF lens . Is it worth shooting in 6k ? Any other tips or advice for using the blackmagic cam?
@@GearFocus which Lut do you use for Film Log in Premiere ? And you use Canon EOS R as your main photo camera? Why i am asking, because i was thinking the same way like 6k for video, Canon R for photography, Lens 24-105mm ))
@@cineformat6298 we have switched over to Resolve for our editing. We also don't use Luts as each situation is different. to convert to REC.709 we use the Blackmagic Film to REC709 conversion. Hope that answers your question! Also, the EOS R makes a great back up to the BMPCC6K!
Great video, sir. I would like to know if you can edit these prores files straight on final cut pro? I believe you can since prores is created by apple, but I’m curious to know and I guess I just want double check.
Hi, whats ur tips for best settings for filming with the BMPCC 6kPro around a fire? Whats the best setting for that low light scenario? And how did you clean up the noise?
@@lionroots11 if I’m understanding your question properly, when you change to 60fps, your shutter stays at 180 degrees. Thats one of the benefits of using shutter angle vs shutter speed. No more need to adjust the shutter for new frame rates!
I personally love braw workflow and would never choose prores over it but it also depends on what You are creating, I'm not doing weddings etc. so file size is not that big of a deal to me :)
As a freelancer, most of the projects are what I like to call “turn and burn”. Very quick turnarounds. The smaller files help speed things up a little bit. BRAW is insanely powerful, especially when paired with Resolve. I just don’t need all that power all the time Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Hey Dan thanks for all the info about bcc6K pro, I am having a problem with it that I don’t get, I put all the settings as yiu recommend the image looks great but in the computer looks like grayish and only with color correction get to looks better, any advice ?
Yes that is because the Pocket line records LOG or logarithmic video. It’s a little complicated to explain, but basically it records the most information it can, which gives your a “flatter profile”. This is actually a good thing believe it or not! If you want a really fast way to get that log footage to look good, get a Rec.709 conversion LUT. I think the ButteryLuts conversion looks the best.
Since one of the main reasons to shoot raw is the ability to change white balance in post without pushing/pulling the image, does shooting in prores make setting white balance during capture vital?
One should always do what they can to get the best image straight out of camera. Don’t rely on “fixing it in post” With that being said, in prores, as long as you are close, you will be totally fine.
@@GearFocus yes thank you, I have realise that I was just wandering if you would have different levels of setting exposure if you use film as to video , 🙏🏿🙏🏿
Plug it in via the USB port. You have to make sure that it is formatted for whatever system you are on (Mac, PC). Formatting must be done before you record though or you will lose all your footage
Once he said "I'm not really pushing colors like that (as in color grading extensively)", I knew this video wasn't for me. This is however a great video for those who want a great image and your intention is minimal editing in post.
The file sizes arn't that different. Shooting ProRes 422 4K DCI is nearly the same as BRAW 6K at 5:1 compression. But I totally understand when you are wanting to minimise your work in post.
We usually use ProRes 422 but recently have been trying 6K BRAW at 12:1. The difference in file size is negligible it seems. We will post more once we've spent more time really diving in.

Stay with one of the native ISOs either 400 or 3200. Thats how you'll get the least amount of noise and most dynamic range.

can we be able to create proxies in BMPCC 6K Pro?
