Athens, officially Athens-Clarke County, is a consolidated city-county and college town in the U.S. state of Georgia. Athens lies about 70 miles (110 kilometers) northeast of downtown, and is a satellite city of Atlanta. The University of Georgia, the state's flagship public university and an R1 research institution, is in Athens and contributed to its initial growth. In 1991, after a vote the preceding year, the original City of Athens abandoned its charter to form a unified government with Clarke County, referred to jointly as Athens-Clarke County.[4]
As of 2019, the U.S. Census Bureau's estimated population of the consolidated city-county (all of Clarke County except Winterville and a portion of Bogart) was 126,913; the entire county including Winterville and Bogart had a population of 127,064.[5] Athens is the sixth-largest city in Georgia, and the principal city of the Athens metropolitan area,[6] which had a 2017 estimated population of 209,271, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.[7] Metropolitan Athens is a component of the larger Atlanta-Athens-Clarke County-Sandy Springs Combined Statistical Area.[8]
The city is dominated by a pervasive college town culture and music scene centered in downtown Athens, next to the University of Georgia's North Campus.[9] Major music acts associated with Athens include numerous alternative rock bands such as R.E.M., the B-52's, Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers, of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Harvey Milk. The city is also known as a recording site for such groups as the Atlanta-based Indigo Girls. The 2020 book Cool Town: How Athens, Georgia, Launched Alternative Music and Changed American Culture describes Athens as the model of the indie culture of the 1980s.[10]

This gave me a good feel of the different areas in and around Athens
Been there in 2017-2018 then I moved back to Thailand(Homeland). Thank you a lot, this video brought me back many great memories.
It's so beautiful here
Can't believe how much things have changed . I was born and raised there , remember when I was a kid going down town you could smell bread baking at the benson's bakery .
Hello from Athens, Greece your brothers
I know the town well, but had a little trouble understanding where you were downtown, because you took a winding route through the city. Also you drove thru east Athens outskirts towards end, but most of the action is in west Athens.
It would be helpful to explain where you are and the direction of travel
I'll keep that in mind for some of the upcoming drive videos.
Athens is only an hour and 20 minute to Atlanta(who would want to go to Atlanta ?;unless one works in Atlanta and lives in Athens ) ,making Athens like Macon ,Georgia "The Austin,Texas of Georgia :fastest growing towns/cities in Georgia, like all Georgia towns and cities it is growing . Great place to raise a family or retire .Many northerners retirees are moving into Athens:cost of living is cheaper.
Looks like a ghost town, where are all the people??? 😳 Streets are empty…
