  • Bought the Holy Grail of Sony BVMs. But this scared the life out of me when I first turned it on. Any idea what this is? Works fine though.

    Please do not worry. The lines you see on top are for compensating the warm-up time, meaning that the monitor adjusts the brightness, contrast, white balance etc internally based on the values from these three lines. They do not affect the settings used on the monitor itself. When powering the monitor on, the lines won't be in sync until after the degauss. Nothing to worry about at all. I've got both a BVM-D24 and A24, plus a couple of other monitors, and they all are a bit unique in these regards. Please enjoy your monitor! :)

      Thanks for the reply. Even more lines have appeared recently in the bottom right corner (and they even curve upwards towards the right) but again, they disappear after a second or two. Worries me every time but it operates and looks lovely each time so maybe I am being over-anxious :)

    I was expecting it to blow out my eardrums like the PS2, but it’s still freaky that it looks exactly like a crack.

    It's a retrace line. This one line at the top of the screen is normal in this model BVM when it's initializing.

      Ah, thanks for the advice. What's a little more worrying is that recently, another new line has appeared near the bottom when turning it on (but this one isn't as long and is quite faint). Is that also normal?

    At least your CRT isn't slowly dying whenever you try to use it

      At least I'm not trying to fake my CRT experience.

      Mine may be. Slight discoloration on one edge but usually goes away after 3-5 minutes

    I thought it was the white screen fading to Sonic. I didn’t see the “crack” since I backed away.

    It’s alright. This stuff happens with CRTs. It just take some time for the TV to receive the CSYNC. Happens to me....sorta...

    So you got a widescreen CRT to play 4:3 games? lol

    • @vlaktorbb
      @vlaktorbb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the good thing about a widescreen CRT is that you dont have to fiddle with horizontal alignment. Check phodorks review about the BVM-D24E1WU.

    Dang haha. I used to have something similar on my old Panasonic CRT, but I believe it was just a scuff or dirty mark. Definitely a strange one for sure.

    I used to have an iiyama monitor with a trinitron tube. That used to have 2 wires across caused by wires behind the screen which somehow reflected an image and could be seen in certain situations. It might be a similar issue to this, but cant say for certain.

    Crts are great with interlaced scanlines and pixels, but sadly who knows what happens if it breaks
