The question about the unfinished crochet project reminded me of an organization that completes yarn projects that have been left unfinished by a loved one that passed away. It’s called Loose Ends Project. You can sign up to be a Finisher. It’s a wonderful service!
He may not like driving or van life, but Toaster is in his element in this video. Lying on the bed while listening to his Natalie talk is so familiar it must be his comfort zone.
Hey Natalie! I was able to meet the Leading Men when they came to stitches west in Sacramento! Such great guys and lovely yarn! Toaster might like a Thunder jacket, works like a weighted blanket for anxiety. One of my Schnauzer’s wears it when we get a thunder storm, also takes a ThunderWunders Hemp Seed calming Chews for dogs. They work wonders and don’t make him drowsy.
Natalie, have you ever used Ravelry’s Road Trip planner to look up yarn shops? You click Menu > Yarns and the third section down is the Road Trip Planner. You can specify your starting location, your destination, and a number of miles that you are willing to detour for the yarn shop. I’m sure it wouldn’t find the newest shops, but it might be a great and easy starting point for you! I’ve used it a number of times to find yarn shops on vacation and long road trips. It’s a cool feature! Love your podcast and seeing your most recent adventures. Happy travels to you!
2 skeins on the body, alternating to obtain a double stretch of each colour might equate to knitting each sleeve with 1 skein. It will depend on the # of stitches arm/front/back.
#question. This isn’t really a question but a few other tips to find local yarn stores while traveling. I have had similar luck with Google but another option is using ravelry. In the yarn section there is a LYS local yarn store search. It’s not the most accurate but it will count up the number of shoppers that have stashed into ravelry from yarn bought in store. So if there are a lot of shoppers it really does help narrow it down. I also find that opening the shop website helps gauge if they are still in business. And when in doubt just call the store! Combo of these tips has worked even internationally where the shops websites aren’t in English (went to Denmark and Sweden this year and heading to Montreal next week).
If you are going to dfw, check out the booth for Forbidden Fiber. She is local to me in Tennessee and has beautiful yarn. She does cross stitch as well but not sure she brought any of that
Thank you for sharing your tour. I’m in Australia so it’s awesomely seeing another country. I did a C2C style rectangle blanket and doing increase for 20 states, length for 10 & decrease for 20 May work 🤷🏻♀️. In the last couple of months I have fallen in love with hexies so I’m loving your adventure
Kent is such a keeper! I love that he is so good at blending your lives! The yarns that you are acquiring for your blanket and other projects are spectacular! It is such a good idea for you three to go on this adventure and take us with you. I keep telling my West Australian friends how active the fibre scene is in the USA! 🎉❤😊
Wow Natalie. I am exhausted listening and seeing all the places you all visited this past week. I am looking forward to your store tours. It is so great to see how the stores are set out and the things they sell and all the beautiful colours and seeing how they dye yarns . I hope you are having a great time at the festival. Take care
Hi Natalie, you and Kent make a great team and you’re doing a great job, I’m happy for you that Toaster is making the adjustment. We also travel with our lab from time to time, so I know it can be stressful for our fur babies😉. Safe travels
Traveling with our pets is a learning experience for them. We travel with our two little dogs and they acclimate. And actually get so excited when it’s time to go.
So cool to see so much yarn in Edmond. Too bad I wasn’t a knitter when my daughter was in college there. I have found A Chick That Knitz though so that’s my connection.
I like that you have facilities for boarding Toaster when it would be too hot to take him around with you. Sometimes it’s not always possible to take your dog in certain places and boarding him for a day seems a good alternative! I’m sure he will get used to the van after a while,
#question i love how normal and natural you are on camera! you have so many followers and you don't let the fame get to your head (as far as i can tell)! my question is: do you ever feel like "knitty natty" is a character when you're filming? it doesn't seem like it but i'd like to hear your perspective!
Well, it's been a long time since I've been on vacation but after watching this video, I'm happily exhausted. Traveling with you was such a pleasure and sharing all the places you went and seeing all the people you met was so so very much fun. Thank you!!!
Oh my gosh, that little yarnover tip! I’m halfway through a shawl now and I might try to incorporate it every other row or every third row just to relax things a little without it being obvious that the first half is different from the second half. If I weren’t on a time crunch I would just start over!
#question Hi Natalie, I ordered the knitty natty colorway from Leading Men and I’m curious if you will we be doing a KAL. I know it might not be that easy because everyone will not be receiving their yarn at the same time. However, if you are doing a KAL, I would be happy to wait for it. You might have already mentioned it. If so I missed it.
#question When knitting socks for someone else, how do you know how big to make them? Do you ask them to measure their foot? If so, what measurements do you ask for? Or do you just ask for their shoe size and hope for the best? 😅 Also, I'm loving your travel content - it's like I'm living vicariously through you (we have five cats, two dogs, and two rabbits so van life is a no go for us lol).
Hi Natalie, you and your traveling adventure videos really brighten my day! I so look forward to new videos. I literally cannot wait for your van life videos. I have one question for you, I wanted to by you a coffee and I noticed you don’t have a link in your videos, why is this? Is it because you don’t really do tutorials? I can tell you are a very unassuming person, but it’s obvious you put a lot of work into your videos and you really do deserve it! Hope to see the link in future videos. Stay safe and have blessed travels.
Oooooh my goodness toasters friend summer is cute overload! I’m sitting out the westknits mkal this year but I’m so super excited to see you knit along!
#question Hi Natalie! I have a question about knit companion. It was really cool to see your tip about moving the row along with your voice. I would LOVE to use knit companion for a sweater I'm knitting. The colourwork chart has only 1 repeat per round, and there are about 400 stitches on the body. So each row is about 200 stitches in the chart. What I would like to know is: is there a way to have knit companion break up the chart not only in rows but in sections of stitches? In order to have any idea of where I am on the chart I have split it up into groups of 10 stitches, so that means every time I knit ten stitches I have to put my knitting down and move my bookmark over by one section--I would love to be able to do this with my voice! I love your podcast, your attitude is a real inspiration for kindness and positivity!
I think for the sleeves on the Allen Glow you probably did 2 repeats on right arm, then 4 repeats left arm, then 4 repeats on each for the rest of the sleeves, ending with 2 on the left arm. (:
I do the same thing to look for yarn stores when I travel. There’s one that I travel an hour and half for when I visit Florida once or twice a year, I love it so much!
@@KnittyNatty Four Purls in Winterhaven. It’s the flagship store for Emma’s Yarn, so they have an immense selection of it and I’m slightly obsessed. Otherwise, they many unique notions and things….I always find plenty to buy when I go!
I’m a little sad I’m not a member right now! The color Addy dyed for your members is stunning! Wishing I could get my hands on some for a scrappy blanket I’m going to start soon… I want to make the Battenberg blanket, but use scraps for the squares!
#question: I think I remember you saying you will be going to Rhinebeck. What route are you planning to take? Are you stopping anywhere near Atlanta? I’d love to come out and see you.
Thank you for all of that information about Toaster! I think all of us dog lovers are really worried about him and hoping that he’ll settle down and start to enjoy the trip. That worry in the back of your mind can’t be fun. My hubby and I are huge Duck fans and jealous that you were there at that nail biter of a game. We live on the border of Washington and Oregon (Portland/Vancouver) so we could have been Husky fans but hubs lived in Eugene next to the stadium for years so the Ducks are our faves!
Just pupped in my minde when you talk about making socks to gift for Christmas 🙈 Why not doing striping socks using the different yarn you got for your states memory blanket? So all your family members have a nice memory of your trip.. Maby striping with a more neutral/calm yarn in between? Thanks again for your great Videos... Allways looking forward for Thursday 😉😊
I love your videos! I was so excited that you are in Dallas I really wanted to go and see you in McKinney yesterday since I live two hours away, but I missed it because of the rain. I'm trying to convince my husband to take me to the yarn festival in Dallas this week.
#question Are you planning on having doubles in your Hexi blanket, or using more than 50 colors? It seems like a 5x10 blanket would be fairly small, or is the Hexi size not translating through the screen?
#question What an adventure you guys are having. My question is this … how do you manage your anxiety? I find travel one of the most anxious things to do. I need a few days to distress after we travel. Thank you from South Africa. 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
