Before I came to Sydney in 1981, my best friend gave me a present. It was a record (風行?) he bought in 旺角新興 which I transferred into a tape for convenience. Yes, you guessed right. It was an LP of him playing. I never thought pipa could be played like that. The ambience & the distinctive crisp strokes are astounding, his artistry is supreme. It is one of my most cherished presents I've ever received. Viva Chinese Music! Our 非物質文化遺產 will thrive forever, esp. having Masters like 呂培原 contributing!
This is my favorite performance of this piece by the master Pui-Yuen Lui! Love the effects of muskets by hard plucking the strings. This programatic piece reminds me of Western battle-theme by composers such as Biber, or Tchaikovskiy.
One of the very best classical pipa piece to be performed by the master, what a treat to listen to this outstanding musical interpretation of "Ambushed from Ten Sides." Bravo and more please!

聽得連雞皮疙瘩都冒出來了！不用閉上雙眼，當年楚漢相爭末期，劉邦採納張良的建議，聯合韓信、英布等各路人馬，逼得西楚霸王項羽窮途末路，揮別虞姬之後，率領僅餘的二十八騎突圍未果，最終於垓下自刎的場景就自動浮現眼前（雖然只能閱讀《史記》的同時，想像那種驚心動魄）。

尋聲暗問彈者誰，六七十年代聽過呂先生之録音帶，幾十年後，爐火純青，巳臻化境，柔得厲害，反覺一歩一驚心，正是［銀瓶乍破水漿迸，鐵騎突出刀槍嗚，］更加驚心動魄，最喜歡這個版本，相信沒有一定人品修養，彈不出這風格

至愛至愛至愛呂先生彈的這曲琵琶“十面埋伏”
非常的棒！完全把楚霸王的气魄体现的淋淋尽致，以及自刎乌江的惋惜和遗憾。
6分钟之后的那种氛围感和方向远近感绝了！听了好几个版本都没有这么好！不过后段战争感没有刘德海大师改编的强。也许吕大师更注重的是“埋伏”之感吧。
对！之前一直听刘德海的版本，气势磅礴，仿佛能看到兵戎相见的画面，直到听到这个版本简直惊为天人，感觉吕的更符合“十面埋伏”的意境，后半段听得人脊背发凉。这两个版本都是神级的…
吕老师的演奏很到味，佩服。敬佩。

值得珍藏的版本。从技术和情绪的代入来说这个版本不是翘楚，可是它很好的表达了一种风声鹤唳，战乱是一种悲凉苍茫，热血残肢之下的一种属于艺术家的独特认识。很出戏的演绎，其实也是很入戏的，不是当代主流演绎流派，但是就是能唤起一种不能否认的情绪，不能否认的存在方式:)
