    O.k.- I can't speak for gear companies or websites that do top ten lists, but when it comes to things like entertainment or politics- things get complicated. For a news outlet or for these shows that interview celebrities and discuss whatever the latest movies are etc.- access is everything. If they can't get interviews with the right ppl, if they can't get the inside information before everyone else- then they can't get the public to pay them any attention and they flop. But the only way to get access to the information or the ppl, is if they and their team give it to you. And the only way to get them to do that is to play ball with them. If you expose their candidate, you can bet you're not getting any further access- and if you want to be among the top news programs- you have to have access to certain ppl- the president, certain senators, etc. basically anyone that the ppl are interested in or talking about. So it's really easy to sit back and be like "Oh they're all crooked and bad." but how do you solve this problem? Any news program that really does their job, will never make it to prime time and 99% of the world will never know it existed. And any news program that does make it to prime time, you can safely bet is crooked- period- all of them.
    Entertainment journalism is no different, if you want to be successful you have to have access to celebrities- and they only give that to ppl who say what they want them to say. And believe it or not, in a less dramatic way- this happens in the world of gear as well. If you want to be a successful online retailer, you have to carry certain brands and have access to the latest products to sell- and that's given selectively. And now, you need a social media presence and to be able to get some celebrities to come on and all that stuff- if you want to compete with Andertons and/or JHS and all these ppl- they rub elbows with the recording artists we all idolize- you must do the same. How are you going to make that happen? Pucker up, bend down on one knee, and say their album is the best thing you've heard since bird song- couldn't hurt, right? See, you're doing it to now. But you're not a bad guy, just someone who wanted to sell guitars really- see how that happens? It's never as easy as we want it to be, it's always more complex and nuanced than we think.

    I am by far no means a professional so I don’t know if it would make a difference when looking for studio/pro/gigging gear to make a living, if an award even matters.
    I never paid attention to products page and seen the awards, nor if seen a whole bunch of Award icons on ads thought better about the product.
    But I may be “tainted” being a firefighter, we had “awards”(medals) I have a couple myself, but have seen some people do amazing things and get nothing, then some do nothing and get everything.
    Conversely, I wonder if sometime the award is more for the awardee. I’ve never ate at a restaurant because “Hill Valley Restaurant 2025 blah blah” recipient was awarded. But if I ate at a place and it was awesome and saw the award I might think the Hill Valley Association knows their $h!t. Sorry my mini rant in a rant

OR I watch them just to see a performance of an artist I support (yes, it's usually 1) and the rest is me going back and forth trying to stay entertained on something else...

  • @Paul_Lenard_Ewing
    @Paul_Lenard_Ewing วันที่ผ่านมา

    Art is not measurable. There is no such thing as the best. It's purpose is to communicate something that words can not convey. Not even the artist has words to convey any meaning. We live in a culture that entitles the author to take credit for his his work. Robert Fripp said. "My best music wrote itself. That music came through me but I have no idea what it is all about" .

    • @myuncle2
      @myuncle2 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Awards and popularity doesn't make you an artist, but part of art is measurable, exactly like any craft or sport. A footballer is better than another footballer, based on technique, not on awards/money/popularity. A painter is better than another painter, based on technique, this painter might be totally unknown, but this doesn't mean that he's not a good painter. Again I am not saying that everything is measurable, I am saying that a part of art is measurable, especially if you are a good artist yourself. 90% of people are average listeners, they are perfectly happy listening to a laptop or a sledge hammer. So there is a lot to consider, including durability. If you are still loved by real music lovers after centuries (Mozart, Bach), that means much more than just a temporary grammy award. Who's going to listen to Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, rappers, or boybands after centuries? Nobody, because the average listeners are gone, and the music lovers won't give a toss about them.

  • @stephanrott5002
    @stephanrott5002 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    I think it comes down to the fact that people seem to be attracted to superlatives... BEST, GREATEST, BIGGEST, FASTEST...
    and someone has to make up the rules to quantify that. These rules are easier to establish in a competitive sport. You could convincingly call the winner of the football world cup the best team of that year. However, the debate will start when you argue about who is the greatest footballer of all time. The rules will be completely arbitrary, especially when it comes to something like art, which is highly subjective. An award doesn't represent anything but the opinion and the ulterior motives of whoever is giving out the award! Apart from this, it doesn't mean anything. (This always reminds me of the short "acceptance speech" by Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder at the 1996 Grammy Awards: th-cam.com/users/shortsNUw4tzaLL5g )

    Anyone who pays attention to awards is going to disappointed when they buy the gear. As for the Grammy Awards, that's been political for years. It's all decided by the record companies. Beyonce is Country? Uh, no. That was the biggest joke of the year.

  • @TheChristafershawn

    Nirvana’s Teen Spirit was a horrible song? I’ll give you it wasn’t the most elaborate cord progression and of course, it was way overplayed on the radio but a horrible song that was recorded horribly? Yeah I guess we have extremely different opinions on what is bad music let alone good music. Just seems like a strange example, if you had said Third Eye Blind or 311 or Maroon 5 something in that vein, I would get your point.

    As with most things in life, follow the money/influence. Pure objectivity is rare. I used to do DAW-based project studio type gear reviews in the early days of "webziines". Been to NAMM and AES a bunch of times. Ideally, you buy all the gear you review with your own money at regular retail prices. And when you're done with the review you either keep it, or sell it at a loss because it's now "used". Even if you get the gear you review sent to you for free, and then send it all back, there's still some bias/influence in there because you now have a relationship with the company (early access to new/cool products for favored reviewers). Maybe you really like the product and would like to keep it, so you ask to buy it, and most times the you'll get it at a nice discount (artist pricing). Or they'll say just keep it for free. The bias deepens. The number of YT gear channels that buy everything with their own money is pretty small (I can think of one). Take everything your read/watch with a grain of salt (and shot of tequila)...

    • @kennethdarlington
      @kennethdarlington 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Its about person behind the channel making 30k vs 150k a year. Many channels of different sizes making their "how much I've made on TH-cam last year" and it's pretty consistent distribution of near 20% of TH-cam ads, 10% of merch/patreon/etc., and 70% out of sponsorships of all sorts. So yeah. Money talks.

    This is an interesting rant in the respect that if you produce artistry...and not a hobbiy...you are subjected to the whims of popularity, validation, and economic achievement. It's all a marking ploy. I don't need to tell you this because you're old enough to be synical and that's it's all BS. Dylan refused them early on in his carrer. Throw out the "shoulds" and understand those who "award" them are only looking out for their own self interest.

    Money Talks but then quality Walks ,But I watch Real Amp Techs online because they know what really is quality and what isnt ,Fender dosnt seem to care much about thier customers and thats because of the cheap components they insist on using and there are many other companys that do the same thing ,so how do you know ? well you watch Great amp techs and they tell us what is good and which amps they refuse to work on now because of bad designs ,Friedman did Win for me I dont care about NAMMs Political circus,Marshall has alot more to prove to me ,Just because finally they build 1 amp with quality components dosnt make up for all the other amps that are not quality ,Friedman has consistently built quality amps and yes Dave had quality issues with tubes and a bad batch of capacitors but he fixes them and sends them back to the Customer ,Music Grammys died for me many years ago and whos Billie Ellise ? I couldnt tell you or care lol
