Beautiful, I love to see that in my local woods in Suffolk. Worth noting that Spanish flowers are upright while English 'nod' or droop.

Oooh Joel a lovely memory link to my youth, we had a beautiful local wood, (Barnton Cheshire overlooking the River Weaver) aka Bluebell Woods, the density of the trees and on a very steep bank meant no cutting or mowing was achievable,which was/ is a must for the constant yearly spectacular display, ty for sharing 🎉
Hey! So sorry I've not been managing to keep up with all the messages and comments, victim of a hit-and-run on Friday last week and it's taken a while to be able to glean CCTV footage etc and deal with police/insurance companies etc - but I'm just working my way back through notifications here! Sounds heavenly, and bluebell woods certainly do prove the best for bringing back memories of the sound, the smells etc. Hope you are doing ok! Best wishes, Joel

@@CheshireCat6639 Thank you - luckily no one in the car, it's just the usual rigmarole that goes with trying to get compensation that reflects the value of the car if we were to buy again, and of course all the to-and-fro with the police, but they're acting now we have the CCTV footage, no problem deciphering which vehicle and who was driving (at speed and with airbags still deployed!) but have to look on positive side that neighbours even in the adjacent road were so helpful - this weekend will hopefully be better than last! Hi Joel, I wanted to thank you for providing all this information about nature and wildlife gardening. I started gardening for wildlife recently and always find it hard to find detailed information on this subject. During the weekdays I'm away from my garden as I move to a city abroad for an internship, but your videos give me the sense that I'm still progressing by learning more about plants and animals and how to support them.
I think that's why we all found ourselves here. Every little thing we can do does make a difference.

Always lovely to see the woodland floor carpeted with these little gems and the smell is intoxicating. A lot of the reserves we visit that have marshes have raised paths which is great because you can be among them without damaging them. Beautiful sight.
Wonderful video of an iconic species, Joel. As you say, Britain has about 50% of the world's bluebell woods due to its very limited distribution. Looking at it on a global scale: most of the world's population, billions of people, will never have the chance to wander through a bluebell wood. A species totally deserving of protection by those of us lucky to have them.
British bluebells are my favourite flower.They make me think of being a child in the Forest of Dean, and all lovely warm and happy memories. I would hate to see them come to harm out of ignorance and thoughtlessness. Save our British Bluebells!

The chances of the bluebell seeds I just ordered from you being delivered and this video coming out on the same day is amazing. Even though it will take longer than I thought to flower it will be worth it seeing these plants in bloom and helping their population continue.

Those English Bluebells look so beautiful in this gorgeous forest clearing. Something I really miss living in the tropics nowadays is the defined change of seasons and the different types of wildflower staggered blooms from early spring to late summer in the meadows and woollands of the more temperate regions. Thank you - although completely different in colour I was thinking about Wood Lilies, not only are they pretty rare I think in the Rockies now, but they love woodland of course and most are spotted in this habitat... one thought of many though! ;) Keeping my eye on Bourne Wood when I can, I did get some other footage which I've got to collate and am just waiting on the Freedom of Information details from FC so I can expand further - best wishes, Joel
@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton Thanks, Joel. I had a look at the Wood Lily as I have never seen one in the wild and it is a pretty flower that can be added to the list😉. One of my favourite is the wild violet (viola sororia) found in the Rockies woodlands like the Bluebells and will look like a big blue/purple blanket over the grass. So many wildflowers to choose from☺. I might even get a packet mix of wildflowers when there from the local garden store and sow them in a small area near the house's security camera to see how they fare after a few weeks... Trial run🌼🌼🌼🌼. Have a great week and don't work too hard!
Desperately trying to rid my garden of inherited Spanish bluebells (we've been here 30 years!) so that we can introduce the native bluebell. Recently bought some for a pot and fingers crossed they survive. Hope you are having a good weekend.
Hey Suzanne - I actually did take a proper "break" this weekend! I know how hard it is to get "rid" of these Spanish bluebells, they do provide nectar but of course that means they can cross-pollinate so easily. Well done you in trying to eradicate them though, I hope the natives survive and continue to spread for you :) Hope you had a good weekend too, best wishes - Joel
I too have 'inherited' bluebells which unfortunately mostly look to be hybridised! I am trying to eliminate them before I can 'start fresh' with some true British ones, wish me luck!
A walk in an English bluebell wood at this time of year with it's intoxicating perfume is a true treat Joel. I am so lucky to have a good few to choose from in Dorset and they always lift my spirits in a way nothing else can. I always wish everyone could experience this feeling, but of course so many can't but your wonderful video will make them feel as if they are there.Thank you💚😍

Very beautiful and interesting. Sadly, in germany the bluebell is quiet a rare thing in wildlife.
Here the bluebell is found only on a very few spots in ancient and undisturbed woodland in the westernmost corners next to the borders of the netherlands, like the following example:

In my neighbourhood the wood anemone is covering the forest floor in early spring, mostly associated with the common beech.
However, in parks and gardens the bluebell is not such a rare thing in germany.
I just planted 100 native blues into my front lawn in the green its not shaded but north facing and wont be mown until Sept

Great video Joel and one of a sight that always takes my breath away.
Bluebells are probably up there as my favourite wild flower simply because of the impact they have on me when I see a bluebell wood. Absolutely magnificent.
It saddens me that with the loss of habitat and the hybridisation with the Spanish Bluebell we may get to the point were or grandchildrens grandchildren won't get to experience that breathtaking sight of a woodland filled with native Bluebells.

We’re off to see this iconic sight this weekend. The haze is something to behold as you approach them it’s almost unreal. I dread to think of the damage that the machinery will cause if they take down those trees. Fabulous sight.
There's another great bit of woodland near Braceborough covered in bluebells. Enjoy going there for my walks when I'm back in the area!
I have Virginia bluebells in my garden zone 5 central USA. It is paler than yours but just as beautiful Love seeing the woods with them as none here. So lucky to have them.
An absolute work of art seeing a forest of blue bells. Very similar to the woods on the opposite road to me called Gobions wood run by the wildlife trust. I think my bluebells in the garden are thick leaves and tall. I’m going to compare them to the ones in the woods.

Joel, I have some good and bad news in regards to my first wildlife pond. The good news is that the pond is finished and I have recorded the build and took pictures for you. Here comes the bad news: while I was in the back of the house collecting water, I discovered after returning that my phone with tripod had dropped in the pond, phone down straight in the water😱😭 I freaked out of course and immediately took it out. The phone was still able to record and take pictures. But the battery was almost empty. And I need it to leave it for 48 hours to dry inside. For how long can I send in the pictures for your video? Otherwise I would have send in the pictures today. hope I have upto this weekend to send the pictures🤞🏻🙏🏻
Just a beautiful sight. Loved all the bluebell seeds I planted previously all coming up this year to create a little blue/purple patch of vivid colour in my garden. I didn’t even realise there was a Spanish version threatening our own until watching your video mate. So sad and disappointing that the forestry commission wants to destroy a load of them with their plans. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen Joel .

This video prompted me to check the bluebells in my garden. Ones in the back garden appear to be native. Not sure about those in the front garden where the flower seems a less conical shape and doesn't hang down so much...
Thank you Joel reminds me it's a long while since I've walked through the local woods. I've planted some English bluebells in my new garden but it looks like there are some Spanish ones from the previous owners. Do you recommend I remove these?
Well this is a little weird. I saw a Bluebell in my garden yesterday and was wondering if it was a native as opposed to a Spanish, and I meant to send you a pic. We are blessed with a few Bluebell woods near me, and memories of them as a child.
I think we have something like that in Florida or at least something else that looks like it
I've heard of the Mexican Bluebell or Florida Bluebell, but I'm not sure they are similar, I think the flowers are different, but you might mean another plant... sorry I can't help with ID :) Best wishes - Joel
I have planted English bluebells in my garden this year, I have Spanish ones aswell that seem to have been there a while, is it worth removing them?
surely with bluebells being protected it means that they cannot fell because they will be damaged
how do I identify if the many bluebells in my garden are English or Spanish?

how can you spot the difference between the spanish and uk one? I suppose most is spanish esp if my neighbour has blue, pink and white ones anf a whole border of them..I mean i have nothing to compare them to so i can't tell
The Spanish ones are upright. The English ones are droopy.
Sadly sites like ebay and alike are a wash with sellers claiming to sell 'English bluebells' but are obviously Spanish ones... a resent survey of a southern England SSSI site a few weeks ago showed that even here sadly the native bluebell was by far in the minority. I would also say many garden centers are also selling non native, is this about profit or is a case of poor knowledge of their own trade? which ever it does not spell good for the English Bluebell.
