It is funny you said its 127 with Ten for 7th sense because 7th sense was the very first nct song ever, first unit to debut before 127 even had their debut. And Doyoung wasnt in the 127 debut, he came in (together with Johhny) with their first comeback Limitless

Both Jungwoo and Lucas had their debut with Boss. Jungwoo then joined 127 und a year later WayV debuted so that Ten & Lucas had their fixed unit as well. Boss is just iconic, I will argue that it is the best NCT U song and Top 5 NCT any unit

"Yestoday" (Yes-to-day) is one of those songs that you just have to look up the lyrics to. The words are very personal to Taeyong and Mark and it's all about their shortcomings, regrets and struggles and how they sacrificed their youth to become Idols and to do what they love to do. An explanation of what it's about, doesn't do it justice. The song is off NCT's Empathy album so SM kind of reworked Taeyong's original song to make it fit more of an empathetic vibe and message. The main message is still very powerful, but far less dark and self deprecating than Taeyong originally wrote the song and lyrics to be. Taeyong wrote this song when he was still a trainee, and from the very beginning his plan was to have Doyoung be the vocalist on the song, but when SM greenlighted it for the album they decided to add Mark and Lucas to it as well. I always find it slightly odd that Lucas was the one that was given the all English verse, because he isn't extremely fluent in English normally. As I think you know, Lucas is Chinese and he is a member of WayV, so his native language is Cantonese and he speaks Mandarin. However, he did a really good job with his pronunciation, so he must have practiced it quite a bit. It seems like Mark would be a more logical person to have an all English verse because he is Korean-Canadian and English is his native language, but I guess Mark actually wrote his lyrics, so the choice to use mostly Korean, must have been what he wanted.
i think it was that they weren't putting any chinese in this album and lucas wasnt really good enough at korean yet to have a proper korean rap verse, so they just threw in an english one. but tbh it wasnt needed in my opinion. he did fine but the song was otherwise so meaningful and personal so his verse there didnt really make sense to me
since you like lyrics so much i think you would enjoy watching a lyric video of yestoday, taeyong wrote this song predebut and it was very important to him and doyoung. SM later added on lucas and mark and it became important to them too, mark wrote in his own rap. and if you do please make sure you read the full version because some lyric videos have the shortened version where a part of taeyongs opening rap is cut out
Lucas is a main rapper, and a center. Those in SuperM, Taeyong, Mark, Lucas and Ten are usually the centers of NCT when they all come together as one group. They're all centers in their respective units as well.
NCT have 3 representative centers Taeyong, Jaemin, and Lucas. I think fans misunderstand what the center actually is and how they function in a group. Just because a member is featured heavily in songs/choreo doesn't make them a center (and Mark is my 127 and SuperM bias so I adore him). The SuperM members were chosen because they're all definitely aces but that's not the same as being centers 😉
Thank you so much for this NCT week and marathon! I’ve been enjoying it immensely! You’ve mentioned you like words. Taeyong is an amazing lyricist and he has his own SoundCloud with songs he has written and produced. The lyrics are really beautiful and personal. He writes a lot of his rap lyrics in NCT songs as well. He uses a lot of pop culture references and in Baby Don’t Stop he even references famous artists/painters Rothko, Rodin, and Claudel. The “Paris” you mentioned could allude to the city but some people think it also alludes to plaster of paris. A line in the same stanza talks about clay and “kneed(ing)” a body like clay.
I think Lucas got a spotlight moment in Black on Black was before WayV debuted. So SM was trying to promote Lucas and Ten, even tho Lucas had only been in SM for maybe a year and a half. Plus SM already knew Lucas was going to be very popular because of his visuals and ability to command attention and draw in the camera.
NCT-2018 "Black on Black" was a special project created by SM in 2018 because, at the time, there were 18 members in NCT and SM thought it was a cool contrast that the number of members reflects the year. (Kun -- the leader of WayV -- debuted as a member of NCT-2018 and he was the one that was added to the group to make them equal 18 members.) So they created this performance for "Black on Black" to highlight NCT. All of NCT's members are part of this performance, except YangYang, Hendery and Xiaojun because they had not debuted until 2019 when WayV was created; and SungChan and Shotaro didn't debut until "Resonance" in 2020. This MV is a special performance MV, so this performance is designed to highlight the group's dance skills, it's not really about the song.("Black on Black" is a b-side track from NCT's Empathy album that actually only features Taeyong, Mark and Lucas in the song.) This performance just highlights another aspect of what makes NCT so talented. If I remember correctly, they actually debuted this performance as a special live stage showcase, before the MV was released, or maybe in tandem with the MV. So they can do all of this live, too. Taeyong is the one that starts the performance. As you are starting to discover, he is so multi-talented that SM features him a lot in its projects, either within NCT or even outside of the group. Some even say that Taeyong and Mark are SM's favorite NCT members because they get the most parts in every project. But Taeyong stands out because he is the leader, and he has that leader quality that makes the leader of Kpop groups different then the other members. Leaders are just born to be leaders, and Taeyong is a good example of that. Fun fact: If you notice, when Mark first appears in the beginning when he jumps over Taeyong, etc., he says, " ... NCT we the dream team ..." NCT's whole group concept is all centered around dreams and dreaming, so they as a whole are the team that is all about dreams. Also someone you need to take notice of is the blond guy with the leather hat in the front and center in the middle of the dance break section -- the one with the skills at popping -- he is Jisung. Jisung is the maknae (youngest) of the whole NCT group and he is one of their best dancers. He debuted as an original member of NCT-Dream when he was only 14. As you noticed, Lucas was the rapper in the middle of the performance who told us to "freeze!!!", who was kneeling in front during the part where they were standing on each other. And, Ten is THE Soloist in NCT. He has the most solo projects of any of the members because he is their best/most skilled main dancer and he has beautiful vocals, so SM has given Ten a lot of solo songs and projects over the years. Notice how the majority of the members who were the centers of this performance -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten and Lucas -- are also members of SuperM. And that is why SM chose them to be a part of that group, because they are the members of NCT who are some of the most talented, most popular and the ones that have that undefinable "it" factor. NCT is a group with an infinite number of members and an ever growing number of sub-units. It has been said that SM has an unknown number trainees who are waiting in the wings to someday debut as members of NCT. Right now, SM's plan is to make NCT the group that never ends and never stops growing and expanding until they have a sub-unit representing every major city in every country in the world. NCT was created to help SM accomplish its plan of world music industry domination. ;P Yes, the level of talent in NCT is insane. But when you really think about it, think of the level of telent SM Entertainment has as a whole. That is why SM commands the top spot and why it's one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world. We wouldn't expect anything less than top talent. And just think, there are dozens of more trainees, just waiting to debut. SM cultivates talent. And that is why the company has become known as a powerhouse for vocals and dancing skills. All of its artist are super multi-talented. You know someone must be extra special if they are part of SM. You can't even debut as an SM artist without having superior vocals and/or dance skills, that's just the criteria for being an SM artist. :D SM Entertaiment is the founder of everything we know of as Kpop today and they have some of the most legendary and talented groups. SM's talent is really never ending. Which is even more mind blowing when you think of everyone who is under SM, such as Super Junior who had 15 members, Girls Generation had 9 members, EXO had 12 members, plus all the company's smaller groups -- TVXQ, SHINee, F(x), Red Velvet, aespa, BoA, Kangta, SuperM, etc. and all of these groups and artists are known for having some of the best singers, dancers and performers.

Seventh Sense is always covered during talent reality shows and whenever a group would get the song via lottery they’re so scared cause it’s so hard to interpret. Baby Don’t Stop. LOL I remember Lucas saying he doesn’t get it. They’re saying STOP, Baby don’t stop. So which is which is it a go or stop? Hahahaha I love it when you’re stressed! Your voice is very high pitched already. Too cute! Yestoday- It take awhile for me to appreciate rap but I like the rap of Yestoday is so smooth to my ears. I love DoYoung’s voice in this song. In Simon Says, they say Real Vibe Killer. Black on Black - who needs back up dancers when you’re that many. How can you even be in sync? This really shows how many hours they practiced. Professional, diligent and dedicated. All 18 of them are there. Then came WayV (it was a big issue if WayV was included in NCT, during that time YangYang, XiaoJun and Hendery weren’t included in NCT U, then the whole China and Korea thing because of THAAD, such a huge thing) then 2020 added Shotaro and SungChan. I really love the concept of NCT unlimited and limitless (isn’t that the same? Haha) They’re not really touched by military enlistment. They can just pull members together. They even have more foreign members than Koreans. Boss is the first MV that reached 100 million. Filmed in Ukraine. Fans really like the concept of NCT. There are no teams under NCT U, it’s based on the song. So it’s like Baby Don’t Stop, Boss Unit etc. I think you should be used to NCT lyrics by now. HAHAHA. You’re so cute when you’re flustered.

Fun fact: Because Ten is from Thailand, they also have a Thai version of "Baby Don't Stop" -- there are live performances of Ten and Taeyong performing the Thai version, as part of their promotions for this song in Thailand. Just search TH-cam if you want to hear what it sounds like in Thai. As you saw, "Baby Don't Stop" is a duo performance by two of the best dancers in NCT. So this is more of a dance song than a song that is lyric heavy. However, I think this song also does a pretty good job of highlighting what great vocalists Ten and Taeyong are as well. Ten is an amazing singer and Taeyong is considered a main rapper of NCT, but he is also a great singer. However, as you can see from this video, they are both multi-talented.That is why SM chose them to be a part of this duo project. And it is also why they are both members of SuperM. 7th Sense is still one of the best kpop debuts I've ever seen. So impactful and interesting and I never get tired of hearing/watching it. Way to announce your mission/presence! Yestoday is a song that Taeyong started writing as a trainee and then it was expanded and Mark added his verse. ( Lucas got focus parts a lot in Empathy project as it was his debut) Both 7th Sense and Yestoday really reward reading the lyrics. 7th Sense is the basis of the whole NCT concept and Yestoday is incredibly personal. (Taeyong and Mark participated in writing most of their verses in these songs and I can always hear their style when they are writing) :D xx

i really really really hope u read the whole lyrics of yestoday. taeyong originally wrote it in his rookie days, and it was SAD. he went thru a lot hates, pressure and rumors back then. the “grow up!” thing is basically what haters told him to. MARK then added his own lyrics when SM released this song, and Mark said this is his fav self written verse ever, he now has 56 writing credits. and it’s actually like his autobiography or monolog with himself in the past. when he said “i hope you like it where im now”, he’s talking to his past self. i got so emotional eveytime i heard this verses. but it truly inspires and motivates me a lot.

YESTODAY has been my favorite NCT song since I first heard it back in 2018!! And the lyrics are so good! Taeyong wrote it and worked on it for like 4 years so this is a very personal song for him, he thought of Doyoung for the singing parts and in the end Mark and Lucas were also added to it (with Mark also writing his own rap which is also really good!). I'm still sad they didn't perform it live 😭

SM was so arbitrary about adding subs to their MVs. It wasn't standard for them until maybe 2019 (they were the last big company to do so) and they haven't gone back to add them. It was frustrating as you can attest 😂. Empathy solidified my status as an NCTZEN (Limitless and 0 Mile started it). NCT 2018 was of course planned for that year and also for the number of members at the time (Black on Black had all 18). The 'U' units are always so much fun because they're always unexpectedly brilliant in their combinations. NCT U is all about single tracks and using any members to make that single it's best. NCT U is also usually where new members are introduced. Their 7th Sense debut, Jungwoo and Lucas in Boss, Sungchan and Shotaro during NCT 2020. Yangyang, Hendery and Xiaojun were exceptions and debuted in their fixed unit first. Yestoday is so good and it's great it got reworked for the album. I'm so excited for Beautiful next week!

Black on Black was all 18 members NCT had in 2018. As of last year they were up to 23, which you can see in Resonance. This year we have 21/23 for Beautiful. Black on Black was most everyone you know except for Hendery, Yangyang, Xiaojun, Shotaro, Sungchan because WayV as a group hadn't debuted (which introduced the first three members), and Sungchan and Shotaro hadn't debuted either. After Mark's group disappears, the kid in the very front is the youngest member Jisung who was 16 at the time. The top people doing the jump spins were Haechan [left] and Ten [right].
you won't get lyrics in MVs before late 2018. also, there won't be lyrics/CC on live performances. For Yestoday, Taeyong started writing the song during trainee days before 2016, and he intended to sing it with Doyoung's voice in mind with the 'chorus', but then SM decided to add Mark and Lucas, that's why Taeyong got the longest time because it's his song. Taeyong wrote about his struggles in his past. Black On Black is more of a 'performance' song rather than an actual song. NCT had performed a 'rough' version of Black On Black during 2016 (year of debut), but they changed a lot of the choreo since, and more members were added into NCT as a whole. So 2018 Black On Black is the final version (with 18 members at the time).
I feel like Lucas got his own section bc before his scandal earlier this year he was a super popular member despite not being a main dancer, rapper or vocalist. I mean he even made it into SuperM the Avengers of kpop. You have to react to SuperM btw, it has Taemin of Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai of Exo and Taeyong and Mark of NCT 127 and Lucas and Ten of WayV. You haven't been wrecked by Taeyong until you've had him growl at you in SuperM's Tiger Inside
Lucas isn't a main rapper (just in my opinion) but he is a center and 2018 was his debut, and essentially the tease of WayV (which debuted 2019) so they did put him a lot with Taeyong and Mark as the sort of main rappers of the other units (127, Dream, and WayV). It did seem to set him up as being the main rapper of WayV, but YangYang has sort of filled that role more than Lucas has. (Not sure what SM's plan is here). Lucas has definitely been the center and basically the face of WayV though
Lol I felt the “these two together is a problem” Ten and Taeyong are by far my top biases in NCT, and Ten is like my second ult (under TOP, which makes for fun puns) and I always love seeing ppl react to Baby Don’t Stop (except my mom, who literally just heard it when I was casually playing it out loud, not trying to show her or anything, and she suddenly got obsessed with Taeyong, watching more things than I do lol) cause…well it speaks for itself
someone who's not afraid to show live stages on youtube. i know those tend to get some really nasty blackmarks off youtube. and ten and taeyong are ALWAYS a problem. i saw superm live last year and i'd never heard "baby don't stop" before and i was in for a very rude awakening x'D didn't realize it was an nct song either because it was a superm concert, but i thought it was cool they let them do an nct thing for that.
Really hope that you check out the lyrics to yestoday (and if you can find the og song/lyrics check that out too) because they are so deep and personal, especially for taeyong who’s the original writer of the song. He wrote it during his trainee days and had always intended it to be sang with doyoung because his voice suited it the best. The lyrics are more empathetic in the album version in comparison to the dark and self deprecating ones taeyong wrote, since at the time he was getting A LOT of hate and rumours spread about him, to the point that he questioned whether or not he deserved to chase his dream. But I think we can all agree that we’re glad this incredibly talented man debuted. It’s lyrically my favourite nct song of all time💫
I feel like the 7th sense is their in-universe uncanny ability to find each other through dreams and nightmares. Since the beginning and to this day, in the teasers for 2021, for example, their concept has been about their ability to traverse dreams and that's also explored in Ten's solo aptly titled "Dream In A Dream", in which another member appears (won't spoil who). It makes sense, because they're constantly adding members, so the cannon explanation for that is that they "sense" that member's arrival through dreams. The SuperM teasers are also about Taemin assembling the members and then, even detecting aespa at the end of One: (Monster & Infinity). Also, NCT U's specific concept revolves around creating a perfect combination of members. Thanks for reacting!
the 4 members highlighted in black on black, taeyong mark ten and lucas, are the 4 superm members from nct. i think at this time they were really trying to push those members popularity as much as possible by highlighting them a lot in nct, because they already knew they were going to be in superm. especially lucas, since he had just debuted and hadnt shown much yet.
NCT's whole group concept is based on dreams and dreaming. So most of what they do has something to do with some aspect of dreaming or being in a dream state. So in NCT-U's "Boss" MV, what I think you see being depicted in the ceiling of the dome is something to do with the fact that it is all a dream, as well as pretty much everything that is happening in the MV. It all has to do with a dream. As you saw, "Boss" has 7 members -- Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas and Mark. But, as you know NCT-U is NCT's united (or, as I like to think of it, universal) group. This sub-unit is designed to be fluid, which means the group is constantly changing and rearranging its members depending on the style and concept of the song. So, as you have seen, there is no telling how many members or even who will be included in any of NCT-U's songs. (As you saw, in the sub-unit's debut "The 7th Sense" MV, for example, there were only 5 members, however, only 4 of the members who were in "The 7th Sense" are in "Boss.") In NCT-U's"The 7th Sense," what you are seeing, as part of NCT's dream concept, is supposed to be the use of the 7th sense. Humans have 5 physical senses -- sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell. The 6th sense would be, the ability to perceive or sense something that isn't there, like, for example, in the movie "The Sixth Sense" where the boy could sense ghosts. So in this MV SM used the "7th sense" to describe where NCT's dream state comes from. The 7th sense transcends the physical world and it deals with the dream realm. If you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see how they are all talking about dreaming, so each of the scenes within the MV is a different part of the dream or each of their individual dreams. (It's really worth looking up the lyrics to help understand NCT's concept and this song better.) "The 7th Sense" came out April 4, 2016, and it is NCT-U's debut. As you saw, in this song and MV, there are 5 members who debuted as the first installment of NCT-U -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten, Jaehyun and Doyoung. This was a really important MV because it was the public's first introduction to NCT and it was NCT's first debut out of all of their sub-units. NCT-U is the group that can have any number of NCT members in it depending on the concept for the song. So even though they debuted with 5 members, you will see that NCT-U is always changing up the members, and the style and sound of the group is constantly changing. NCT-U songs can have anywhere from all the members or only 1 or 2 members. The U stands for United, but I also like to think of it as Universal because of the way the group never has a fixed number of members. Ten is the one in red in the room with the plants; he is NCT's Thai member and he is also a member of WayV, NCT's Chinese sub-unit. Mark is the rapper in the pink tiled room and he is Korean-Canadian; and Taeyong is the blond who is the leader of all of NCT, so he looks after all 22+ members -- Can you imagine having that job? And Jaehyun -- the one you see with the blue and green lights highlighting him -- and Doyoung -- the one with the orange hair -- are two of NCT's main vocalists. Fun fact: About 3 months after NCT-U debuted, in July 2016, Taeyong, Mark and Jaehyun debuted again as original members of NCT-127 with the song "Fire Truck" -- along with new members Taeil, Yuta, WinWin and Haechan. And then about a months later, in August 2016, Mark debuted yet again, for the third time, as part of NCT-Dream -- the only NCT member to debut in all 3 original groups -- along with Haechan, and new members Jeno, Jaemin, RenJun, Chenle and Jisung. With their song "Chewing Gum." Mark is the oldest member of Dream and the team leader of the sub-unit, and he was only 17 during all of these debuts. However, NCT was actually introduced to the media in February 2016 as part of SM's new Neo Culture Technology concept. You don't necessarily need to react to it if you don't want, but you should check it out. I think it's kind of interesting to hear Lee SooMan's (SM's founder) explanation about the creation of Neo Culture Technology and it's cool to see the epic way NCT was introduced to the media. The very first members of NCT entered wearing masks and their identities were revealed as they removed their masks. Lee SooMan is kind of known for being a little extra and going over the top, and this presentation is a good example of that. LOL NCT's concept has always been centered on different aspects of dreams and dreaming, so part of the showcase sets up the group's dream concept. And it even shows how SM had always planned for NCT's Chinese sub-unit to debut from the very beginning, but it just took the company a long time to figure out how to navigate all the political issues with China, so WayV (originally planned to be called NCT-V) didn't actually end up debuting until 2019, almost 3 years later. Musicality, amazing vocals, unbelievable harmonies -- all the members sing to create those harmonies -- and impressive dancing is what you just need to come to expect from anyone from SM Entertainment. That is just what SM has become known for and it's now what is expected from anyone who is part of the company. SM cultivates talent in all aspects of performance. And that is what makes them one of the top companies in the industry and why they are one of the Big 3. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing vocals and dance skills and being great rappers is just a bonus. None of SM's rappers were chosen because of their rap skills. They were first recognized for their vocals and/or dancing, and after joining the company SM helped them discover their talent and ability as rappers. Therefore, even SM's rappers could be main vocalists, and a lot of their vocalists are pretty good rappers.

"Yestoday" (Yes-to-day) is one of those songs that you just have to look up the lyrics to. The words are very personal to Taeyong and Mark and it's all about their shortcomings, regrets and struggles and how they sacrificed their youth to become Idols and to do what they love to do. An explanation of what it's about, doesn't do it justice. The song is off NCT's Empathy album so SM kind of reworked Taeyong's original song to make it fit more of an empathetic vibe and message. The main message is still very powerful, but far less dark and self deprecating than Taeyong originally wrote the song and lyrics to be.
Taeyong wrote this song when he was still a trainee, and from the very beginning his plan was to have Doyoung be the vocalist on the song, but when SM greenlighted it for the album they decided to add Mark and Lucas to it as well.
I always find it slightly odd that Lucas was the one that was given the all English verse, because he isn't extremely fluent in English normally. As I think you know, Lucas is Chinese and he is a member of WayV, so his native language is Cantonese and he speaks Mandarin. However, he did a really good job with his pronunciation, so he must have practiced it quite a bit. It seems like Mark would be a more logical person to have an all English verse because he is Korean-Canadian and English is his native language, but I guess Mark actually wrote his lyrics, so the choice to use mostly Korean, must have been what he wanted.
i think it was that they weren't putting any chinese in this album and lucas wasnt really good enough at korean yet to have a proper korean rap verse, so they just threw in an english one. but tbh it wasnt needed in my opinion. he did fine but the song was otherwise so meaningful and personal so his verse there didnt really make sense to me

Lucas is a main rapper, and a center. Those in SuperM, Taeyong, Mark, Lucas and Ten are usually the centers of NCT when they all come together as one group. They're all centers in their respective units as well.
NCT have 3 representative centers Taeyong, Jaemin, and Lucas. I think fans misunderstand what the center actually is and how they function in a group. Just because a member is featured heavily in songs/choreo doesn't make them a center (and Mark is my 127 and SuperM bias so I adore him). The SuperM members were chosen because they're all definitely aces but that's not the same as being centers 😉

Thank you so much for this NCT week and marathon! I’ve been enjoying it immensely! You’ve mentioned you like words. Taeyong is an amazing lyricist and he has his own SoundCloud with songs he has written and produced. The lyrics are really beautiful and personal. He writes a lot of his rap lyrics in NCT songs as well. He uses a lot of pop culture references and in Baby Don’t Stop he even references famous artists/painters Rothko, Rodin, and Claudel. The “Paris” you mentioned could allude to the city but some people think it also alludes to plaster of paris. A line in the same stanza talks about clay and “kneed(ing)” a body like clay.

I think Lucas got a spotlight moment in Black on Black was before WayV debuted. So SM was trying to promote Lucas and Ten, even tho Lucas had only been in SM for maybe a year and a half. Plus SM already knew Lucas was going to be very popular because of his visuals and ability to command attention and draw in the camera.
Lucas might not be a main dancer/rapper but he is basically a face of the group, which is why he was chosen for Super M 😊

NCT-2018 "Black on Black" was a special project created by SM in 2018 because, at the time, there were 18 members in NCT and SM thought it was a cool contrast that the number of members reflects the year. (Kun -- the leader of WayV -- debuted as a member of NCT-2018 and he was the one that was added to the group to make them equal 18 members.) So they created this performance for "Black on Black" to highlight NCT.
All of NCT's members are part of this performance, except YangYang, Hendery and Xiaojun because they had not debuted until 2019 when WayV was created; and SungChan and Shotaro didn't debut until "Resonance" in 2020.
This MV is a special performance MV, so this performance is designed to highlight the group's dance skills, it's not really about the song.("Black on Black" is a b-side track from NCT's Empathy album that actually only features Taeyong, Mark and Lucas in the song.) This performance just highlights another aspect of what makes NCT so talented. If I remember correctly, they actually debuted this performance as a special live stage showcase, before the MV was released, or maybe in tandem with the MV. So they can do all of this live, too.
Taeyong is the one that starts the performance. As you are starting to discover, he is so multi-talented that SM features him a lot in its projects, either within NCT or even outside of the group. Some even say that Taeyong and Mark are SM's favorite NCT members because they get the most parts in every project. But Taeyong stands out because he is the leader, and he has that leader quality that makes the leader of Kpop groups different then the other members. Leaders are just born to be leaders, and Taeyong is a good example of that.
Fun fact: If you notice, when Mark first appears in the beginning when he jumps over Taeyong, etc., he says, " ... NCT we the dream team ..." NCT's whole group concept is all centered around dreams and dreaming, so they as a whole are the team that is all about dreams.
Also someone you need to take notice of is the blond guy with the leather hat in the front and center in the middle of the dance break section -- the one with the skills at popping -- he is Jisung. Jisung is the maknae (youngest) of the whole NCT group and he is one of their best dancers. He debuted as an original member of NCT-Dream when he was only 14.
As you noticed, Lucas was the rapper in the middle of the performance who told us to "freeze!!!", who was kneeling in front during the part where they were standing on each other.
And, Ten is THE Soloist in NCT. He has the most solo projects of any of the members because he is their best/most skilled main dancer and he has beautiful vocals, so SM has given Ten a lot of solo songs and projects over the years.
Notice how the majority of the members who were the centers of this performance -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten and Lucas -- are also members of SuperM. And that is why SM chose them to be a part of that group, because they are the members of NCT who are some of the most talented, most popular and the ones that have that undefinable "it" factor.
NCT is a group with an infinite number of members and an ever growing number of sub-units. It has been said that SM has an unknown number trainees who are waiting in the wings to someday debut as members of NCT. Right now, SM's plan is to make NCT the group that never ends and never stops growing and expanding until they have a sub-unit representing every major city in every country in the world. NCT was created to help SM accomplish its plan of world music industry domination. ;P
Yes, the level of talent in NCT is insane. But when you really think about it, think of the level of telent SM Entertainment has as a whole. That is why SM commands the top spot and why it's one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world. We wouldn't expect anything less than top talent. And just think, there are dozens of more trainees, just waiting to debut. SM cultivates talent. And that is why the company has become known as a powerhouse for vocals and dancing skills. All of its artist are super multi-talented.
You know someone must be extra special if they are part of SM. You can't even debut as an SM artist without having superior vocals and/or dance skills, that's just the criteria for being an SM artist. :D
SM Entertaiment is the founder of everything we know of as Kpop today and they have some of the most legendary and talented groups.
SM's talent is really never ending. Which is even more mind blowing when you think of everyone who is under SM, such as Super Junior who had 15 members, Girls Generation had 9 members, EXO had 12 members, plus all the company's smaller groups -- TVXQ, SHINee, F(x), Red Velvet, aespa, BoA, Kangta, SuperM, etc. and all of these groups and artists are known for having some of the best singers, dancers and performers.

Black on Black - who needs back up dancers when you’re that many. How can you even be in sync? This really shows how many hours they practiced. Professional, diligent and dedicated. All 18 of them are there. Then came WayV (it was a big issue if WayV was included in NCT, during that time YangYang, XiaoJun and Hendery weren’t included in NCT U, then the whole China and Korea thing because of THAAD, such a huge thing) then 2020 added Shotaro and SungChan. I really love the concept of NCT unlimited and limitless (isn’t that the same? Haha) They’re not really touched by military enlistment. They can just pull members together. They even have more foreign members than Koreans.
Boss is the first MV that reached 100 million. Filmed in Ukraine. Fans really like the concept of NCT. There are no teams under NCT U, it’s based on the song. So it’s like Baby Don’t Stop, Boss Unit etc.

As you saw, "Baby Don't Stop" is a duo performance by two of the best dancers in NCT. So this is more of a dance song than a song that is lyric heavy. However, I think this song also does a pretty good job of highlighting what great vocalists Ten and Taeyong are as well. Ten is an amazing singer and Taeyong is considered a main rapper of NCT, but he is also a great singer. Taeyong wrote Baby Don’t Stop and Yestoday, but Yestoday is a very personal song to Taeyong that he wrote about his struggles along with NCT 127 song Mad City (highly recommend) so that’s why his part is so long SM added the others to it, but it has a lot of meaning. Yestoday is a song that Taeyong started writing as a trainee and then it was expanded and Mark added his verse. ( Lucas got focus parts a lot in Empathy project as it was his debut)
Both 7th Sense and Yestoday really reward reading the lyrics. 7th Sense is the basis of the whole NCT concept and Yestoday is incredibly personal. (Taeyong and Mark participated in writing most of their verses in these songs and I can always hear their style when they are writing) :D xx

i really really really hope u read the whole lyrics of yestoday. taeyong originally wrote it in his rookie days, and it was SAD. he went thru a lot hates, pressure and rumors back then. the “grow up!” thing is basically what haters told him to.
MARK then added his own lyrics when SM released this song, and Mark said this is his fav self written verse ever, he now has 56 writing credits. and it’s actually like his autobiography or monolog with himself in the past. when he said “i hope you like it where im now”, he’s talking to his past self. i got so emotional eveytime i heard this verses. but it truly inspires and motivates me a lot.

YESTODAY has been my favorite NCT song since I first heard it back in 2018!! And the lyrics are so good! Taeyong wrote it and worked on it for like 4 years so this is a very personal song for him, he thought of Doyoung for the singing parts and in the end Mark and Lucas were also added to it (with Mark also writing his own rap which is also really good!). SM was so arbitrary about adding subs to their MVs. It wasn't standard for them until maybe 2019 (they were the last big company to do so) and they haven't gone back to add them. It was frustrating as you can attest 😂. Empathy solidified my status as an NCTZEN (Limitless and 0 Mile started it). NCT 2018 was of course planned for that year and also for the number of members at the time (Black on Black had all 18). The 'U' units are always so much fun because they're always unexpectedly brilliant in their combinations. NCT U is all about single tracks and using any members to make that single it's best. NCT U is also usually where new members are introduced. Their 7th Sense debut, Jungwoo and Lucas in Boss, Sungchan and Shotaro during NCT 2020. Yangyang, Hendery and Xiaojun were exceptions and debuted in their fixed unit first. Yestoday is so good and it's great it got reworked for the album. I'm so excited for Beautiful next week!

Black on Black was all 18 members NCT had in 2018. As of last year they were up to 23, which you can see in Resonance. This year we have 21/23 for Beautiful. Black on Black was most everyone you know except for Hendery, Yangyang, Xiaojun, Shotaro, Sungchan because WayV as a group hadn't debuted (which introduced the first three members), and Sungchan and Shotaro hadn't debuted either.
After Mark's group disappears, the kid in the very front is the youngest member Jisung who was 16 at the time. The top people doing the jump spins were Haechan [left] and Ten [right].

For Yestoday, Taeyong started writing the song during trainee days before 2016, and he intended to sing it with Doyoung's voice in mind with the 'chorus', but then SM decided to add Mark and Lucas, that's why Taeyong got the longest time because it's his song. Taeyong wrote about his struggles in his past.
Black On Black is more of a 'performance' song rather than an actual song. NCT had performed a 'rough' version of Black On Black during 2016 (year of debut), but they changed a lot of the choreo since, and more members were added into NCT as a whole. So 2018 Black On Black is the final version (with 18 members at the time).

I feel like Lucas got his own section bc before his scandal earlier this year he was a super popular member despite not being a main dancer, rapper or vocalist. I mean he even made it into SuperM the Avengers of kpop. You have to react to SuperM btw, it has Taemin of Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai of Exo and Taeyong and Mark of NCT 127 and Lucas and Ten of WayV. You haven't been wrecked by Taeyong until you've had him growl at you in SuperM's Tiger Inside
Lucas isn't a main rapper (just in my opinion) but he is a center and 2018 was his debut, and essentially the tease of WayV (which debuted 2019) so they did put him a lot with Taeyong and Mark as the sort of main rappers of the other units (127, Dream, and WayV). It did seem to set him up as being the main rapper of WayV, but YangYang has sort of filled that role more than Lucas has. (Not sure what SM's plan is here). Lucas has definitely been the center and basically the face of WayV though
Lol I felt the “these two together is a problem” Ten and Taeyong are by far my top biases in NCT, and Ten is like my second ult (under TOP, which makes for fun puns) and I always love seeing ppl react to Baby Don’t Stop (except my mom, who literally just heard it when I was casually playing it out loud, not trying to show her or anything, and she suddenly got obsessed with Taeyong, watching more things than I do lol) cause…well it speaks for itself

someone who's not afraid to show live stages on youtube. i know those tend to get some really nasty blackmarks off youtube. and ten and taeyong are ALWAYS a problem. i saw superm live last year and i'd never heard "baby don't stop" before and i was in for a very rude awakening x'D didn't realize it was an nct song either because it was a superm concert, but i thought it was cool they let them do an nct thing for that.

Really hope that you check out the lyrics to yestoday (and if you can find the og song/lyrics check that out too) because they are so deep and personal, especially for taeyong who’s the original writer of the song. He wrote it during his trainee days and had always intended it to be sang with doyoung because his voice suited it the best. The lyrics are more empathetic in the album version in comparison to the dark and self deprecating ones taeyong wrote, since at the time he was getting A LOT of hate and rumours spread about him, to the point that he questioned whether or not he deserved to chase his dream. But I think we can all agree that we’re glad this incredibly talented man debuted. It’s lyrically my favourite nct song of all time💫
I feel like the 7th sense is their in-universe uncanny ability to find each other through dreams and nightmares. Since the beginning and to this day, in the teasers for 2021, for example, their concept has been about their ability to traverse dreams and that's also explored in Ten's solo aptly titled "Dream In A Dream", in which another member appears (won't spoil who). It makes sense, because they're constantly adding members, so the cannon explanation for that is that they "sense" that member's arrival through dreams. The SuperM teasers are also about Taemin assembling the members and then, even detecting aespa at the end of One: (Monster & Infinity). Also, NCT U's specific concept revolves around creating a perfect combination of members. Thanks for reacting!
the 4 members highlighted in black on black, taeyong mark ten and lucas, are the 4 superm members from nct. i think at this time they were really trying to push those members popularity as much as possible by highlighting them a lot in nct, because they already knew they were going to be in superm. especially lucas, since he had just debuted and hadnt shown much yet.

NCT U is a rotational unit that changes with each comeback, that’s why you see different members, whereas the other sub-units are set.

NCT's whole group concept is based on dreams and dreaming. So most of what they do has something to do with some aspect of dreaming or being in a dream state. So in NCT-U's "Boss" MV, what I think you see being depicted in the ceiling of the dome is something to do with the fact that it is all a dream, as well as pretty much everything that is happening in the MV. It all has to do with a dream.
As you saw, "Boss" has 7 members -- Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas and Mark. But, as you know NCT-U is NCT's united (or, as I like to think of it, universal) group. This sub-unit is designed to be fluid, which means the group is constantly changing and rearranging its members depending on the style and concept of the song. So, as you have seen, there is no telling how many members or even who will be included in any of NCT-U's songs. (As you saw, in the sub-unit's debut "The 7th Sense" MV, for example, there were only 5 members, however, only 4 of the members who were in "The 7th Sense" are in "Boss.")
They actually went all the way to the Ukraine to shoot the MV for "Boss." "Boss" came out in 2018 and this was Lucas' official debut as a member of NCT. This is how he was introduced, and, at the time, everyone wanted to know who the cute blond rapper -- the one who made the chairs tip, etc. -- was. But for us fans who have been following NCT since day one, we already knew Lucas. Lucas was actually first featured as an extra in Ten's "Dream in a Dream" solo MV in 2017 and we had seen him as part of NCT's SMRookies activities as well.

In NCT-U's"The 7th Sense," what you are seeing, as part of NCT's dream concept, is supposed to be the use of the 7th sense. Humans have 5 physical senses -- sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell. The 6th sense would be, the ability to perceive or sense something that isn't there, like, for example, in the movie "The Sixth Sense" where the boy could sense ghosts. So in this MV SM used the "7th sense" to describe where NCT's dream state comes from. The 7th sense transcends the physical world and it deals with the dream realm. If you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see how they are all talking about dreaming, so each of the scenes within the MV is a different part of the dream or each of their individual dreams. (It's really worth looking up the lyrics to help understand NCT's concept and this song better.)
"The 7th Sense" came out April 4, 2016, and it is NCT-U's debut. As you saw, in this song and MV, there are 5 members who debuted as the first installment of NCT-U -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten, Jaehyun and Doyoung. This was a really important MV because it was the public's first introduction to NCT and it was NCT's first debut out of all of their sub-units.
NCT-U is the group that can have any number of NCT members in it depending on the concept for the song. So even though they debuted with 5 members, you will see that NCT-U is always changing up the members, and the style and sound of the group is constantly changing. NCT-U songs can have anywhere from all the members or only 1 or 2 members. The U stands for United, but I also like to think of it as Universal because of the way the group never has a fixed number of members.
Ten is the one in red in the room with the plants; he is NCT's Thai member and he is also a member of WayV, NCT's Chinese sub-unit. Mark is the rapper in the pink tiled room and he is Korean-Canadian; and Taeyong is the blond who is the leader of all of NCT, so he looks after all 22+ members -- Can you imagine having that job? And Jaehyun -- the one you see with the blue and green lights highlighting him -- and Doyoung -- the one with the orange hair -- are two of NCT's main vocalists.
Fun fact: About 3 months after NCT-U debuted, in July 2016, Taeyong, Mark and Jaehyun debuted again as original members of NCT-127 with the song "Fire Truck" -- along with new members Taeil, Yuta, WinWin and Haechan.
And then about a months later, in August 2016, Mark debuted yet again, for the third time, as part of NCT-Dream -- the only NCT member to debut in all 3 original groups -- along with Haechan, and new members Jeno, Jaemin, RenJun, Chenle and Jisung. With their song "Chewing Gum." Mark is the oldest member of Dream and the team leader of the sub-unit, and he was only 17 during all of these debuts.
However, NCT was actually introduced to the media in February 2016 as part of SM's new Neo Culture Technology concept. You don't necessarily need to react to it if you don't want, but you should check it out. I think it's kind of interesting to hear Lee SooMan's (SM's founder) explanation about the creation of Neo Culture Technology and it's cool to see the epic way NCT was introduced to the media. The very first members of NCT entered wearing masks and their identities were revealed as they removed their masks. Lee SooMan is kind of known for being a little extra and going over the top, and this presentation is a good example of that. LOL
NCT's concept has always been centered on different aspects of dreams and dreaming, so part of the showcase sets up the group's dream concept.
And it even shows how SM had always planned for NCT's Chinese sub-unit to debut from the very beginning, but it just took the company a long time to figure out how to navigate all the political issues with China, so WayV (originally planned to be called NCT-V) didn't actually end up debuting until 2019, almost 3 years later.
Musicality, amazing vocals, unbelievable harmonies -- all the members sing to create those harmonies -- and impressive dancing is what you just need to come to expect from anyone from SM Entertainment. That is just what SM has become known for and it's now what is expected from anyone who is part of the company. SM cultivates talent in all aspects of performance. And that is what makes them one of the top companies in the industry and why they are one of the Big 3. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing vocals and dance skills and being great rappers is just a bonus. None of SM's rappers were chosen because of their rap skills. They were first recognized for their vocals and/or dancing, and after joining the company SM helped them discover their talent and ability as rappers. Therefore, even SM's rappers could be main vocalists, and a lot of their vocalists are pretty good rappers.
And yes that "take it slow, take it slow" part on The 7th Sense was Doyoung not Taeyong
