Visit to a local village in Hwange, Zimbabwe - Part1

  • On our first day at the Hwange National Park area we visit a local village of the Nambya minority ethnic group. They very graciously opened one of their homesteads to us, showed us their daily functions, and answered our questions. Very interesting to see a different way of life, of maybe less comforts and conveniences, but full of camaraderie and community togetherness. The daily chores were done with laughter, singing, and dancing. All that, and adorable babies with chubby cheeks :)
    Lovely day! This is the first part of our "day in the life" with the Nambya people. Our visit continues with tea and discussion.

      True! It must be so nice to have support from so many people around you. And they seemed to have fun too. I think the human connection and the social life they have more than makes up for the lack of comforts.

    It's sad that Zimbabwe took a long time to recognize minority tribes like the Nambya, Tonga, Venda, Lemba and Kalanga. Most were forced to learn Ndebele at school until now.

    • @NancyIoannidis
      @NancyIoannidis  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it's truly important to preserve our diversity and heritage. Very glad schools are now accepting the tribes' languages.

      The tour we were on was multi country - Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, with a pre-trip to South Africa. Our tour leader is a native of Zimbabwe. In addition, the local communities are compensated for their participation and the tour company through its Grand Circle Foundation provides substantial financial help to the local school.

      @@NancyIoannidis Please remember Cecil Rhodes came as an occupier and not a saviour. British colonization was not a blessing to the Africans. It eventually led to a civil war, which cost the nation many losses in terms of lives and wealth.
