    I like that you are teaching viewers as you paint, and not just painting with a "hey look at me" vibe going on. Your work is always lively and interesting. Thanks for these videos Jeff.

    Good heavens, Jeff Miracola, your work makes me wish I could paint. I've always been able to draw, but for some reason am frightened of picking up a brush. Thanks for all the great videos.

    • @jeffmiracolaartist
      @jeffmiracolaartist  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      SrKAtaide I was afraid to. But I got over it because I knew I had to learn to paint if I wanted to paint like my art heroes. If you want it bad enough, you'll do it. But drawing is soooooooo very important. A trained artist can always spot a painter that is incredible at drawing. A strong foundation in drawing is essential to making a great painter. I believe that. So you're ahead of the game already :-) Just start painting. If it makes it easier for you, think of drawing with the paint. Take a look at the work of John Jude Palencar. It may be impossible to see if you don't find an image large enough online, but that guy draws with the paint. He uses his brushes to make tiny little strokes, building up the surface more and more and more. His original paintings will blow your mind. It's like he uses the brushes like they are colored pencils to do those tiny strokes. Painting doesn't have to be big strokes and messy smears everywhere. It can be controlled like drawing. So consider that.

    Awesome to see a new video up! You've reinvigorated my work Jeff, and I've learned a lot from your videos. I'm a professional artist, and tattoo artist and watching your videos has really gotten me back into crazy painting mode again. I've adopted the acrylic under paint for almost everything I paint now and it makes such a difference. Thank you for sharing- your helping a lot of artists out there.

    • @jeffmiracolaartist
      @jeffmiracolaartist  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome, Larry. Glad to know the underpainting is making a difference in your work. It's another step that sometimes people don't want to do because they think it will slow down the process. But it actually really helps to save time in the long run.

      Then I will look forward to the challenge.
      First time use of the brown under painting but it has made a huge difference to how I now look at the painting as a whole.
      Thank you.

  • @madroschannel

    Thanks Jeff! Is there a reason you use an acrylic underpainting as opposed to a thinned out oil?

    • @jeffmiracolaartist
      @jeffmiracolaartist  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it was mostly habit from how I normally work. It wasn't necessary since I essentially worked wet-on-wet with the oil paints and had to get this painting done in that 4 hour session. So for my next live model painting session, which is in a few days, I will not do an acrylic underpainting at all. I'll just use all oil paints. I'll make sure to post that video, too :-)

    Hey Jeff. What are some places I could checkout to do a few study sessions? I feel im a little out of shape when it comes to my life drawing skills since I got out of college.

    • @jeffmiracolaartist
      @jeffmiracolaartist  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike! Well, in my area the local art colleges offer night life drawing sessions during certain times of the year. And then there are smaller organizations or galleries that have life drawing as well. The bigger the city, the more options. You could always drive down to Chicago to join me at this Figurative Illustration Workshop and do some drawing or painting. The next one is this weekend. Aaron tries to do one a month. Check out the website for all the details:

    Really like this one, seeing your process is more helpful than anything I can think of. Was the dramatic silhouette on purpose or a happy accident? Also, how is the ankle?

    • @jeffmiracolaartist
      @jeffmiracolaartist  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since I'm not sure what you are referring to with the dramatic silhouette, I'll have to say it was a happy accident :-) And my ankle is getting much better. Thanks for asking. I'll be back to flipping 300 pound tires really soon.

    • @mdd050
      @mdd050 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just referring the composition. I've been working on making the silhouettes of my figures more interesting personally so I guess that is what I noticed most on this painting. Anyway, glad to hear about the ankle!

    Fantastic work again Jeff. The commentary is excellent. Can i ask when you first started in fantasy art did you start of with studying other artists and progress your style from there? At the moment im doing this with Frazetta and Boris Vallejo, and adding my own style from there. Does this help or harm developing artists?

    • @jeffmiracolaartist
      @jeffmiracolaartist  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steven,
      There is nothing wrong at all with studying and copying the work of our artistic heroes when we are either young or new to art. It's how artists have learned to paint for hundreds of years. At some point, your own style will emerge. I copied the work of Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo all the time when I was younger. I suppose it can only harm you if you are making a conscious effort to mimic these artists once you become a professional, paid illustrator. I've been planning on creating a video about artistic influences. I think I'll get to that very soon :-)

    I really would love to be there this saturday, but right now we are just barely making ends meet. So im going to gave to rain check for next month. When he posts a new date ill request off ahead of time and put aside 25 bucks for it. Ill be sure do bring my pencils and acrylics (maybe india inks instead I dont know yet) that would be great to do some art outside the home shop with a fellow (and way more established) artist.
