This recording of Wyn Moris is the best. At 33’ it is the longest and the one that conveys the operatic scope of this piece which already has all the grandeur of Wagner’s great operas to come !
...thanks to you, dear Uli, it's the first time I listen to this splendid and mistic piece. No wonder to Wagner the human voice was the more perfect instrument...
Discovered the score of this in Travis and Emery yesterday (needless to say... purchased also!) So glad there is a (good) recording of the work.... now to find 40+ male voices with perfect intonation!
This group has vocal chords of high-alloy steel - amazing! As to German pronunciation: this is a bunch of English-speakers "well drilled" in Deutsch, but not quite the real thing, right???
What a glorious ending. This is the first time in 17 years I've ever heard it performed with voice and full orchestra. All this time I've been listening to a US Marine Band recording, which sounds nice but very silly compared to this. Now I can understand what Wagner was trying to convey in the music.
@DerHarmonist yes, I think so.
Very, very difficult and extremely taxing to sing. There's much more to it than meets the ear... . Nevertheless brilliantly executed. Thank you for posting.
This choir has so much depth and power

After I had heard this piece of Wagner first time in my life, I started loving his music. He goes so deeply into the spirit.

Thanks for posting this. I had never heard of this work. I'll have to see if I can find the lyrics.
je vous salue m. wagner
I didn't know this work existed.
That's because you don't read your Bruckner Journal thoroughly....

Vorläufer für den Pilgerchor aus Tannhäuser?
Yes.

Lad es unbedingt hoch!
It must be very tough for the men's chorus to sing capella for such an extended period, especially with Wagner's chromtic harmonies .
To my ears, it sounds like two choruses singing to each other in some passages.
Any comments?
Even three choruses at some moments!
12 part mens chorus with full orchestra. Nobody ever accused Wagner of writing simply
