Something you say really sticks out for me: Working with TdM, you don't have to flip over a card with a scary or threatening image and deal with the querent's reaction. You basically start an energetic ping-pong match with the querent getting worried, and you try to read that fear, and then the querent is wondering what you're thinking, etc. I haven't even started with tarot, but this is one of the big problems I have with the idea of a card reading. I don't see how it's appropriate or ethical to use a client's emotions and energy this way. If the reader has good intuitive skills, it should not be necessary to provoke this kind of reaction in order to make progress throughout the reading. It is the reader's job to deal with difficult signs and challenging energies, and to translate this into useful information. For this reason, I think a deck should either give very little information by way of pictures and words, or it should be very abstract so that the querent won't be able to understand from quickly looking at the cards. (Small example: I know that many RWS users defend the death card by saying that "well, it doesn't necessary mean death, just change or transformation, or..." But hold on, why do you need to give the energetic blueprint for the most extreme case, and then backpedal? Already you shift the nature of the reading when, in the context of the spread, it might be something completely different. At least in TdM, this card has a more humorous and softer quality.)

I suppose for some people a skeleton will always be scary. The darker and solemn cards are in the deck to warn us about problems in our/querent's lives. But I agree - I can see many problems in fairly abstract pips that the querent won't realize are there, because there are no people.

Thank you for sharing this! I'm currently switching from RWS to TdM and I totally agree with you. For me the best way to learn TDM is to forget RWS :D And it's quite difficult as I spent so much time trying to memorize each RWS picture... ;) :)

Yes, you still have those scenes from RWS in your brain, but once you work with TdM longer, you start reacting to those images only :)

Thank you for sharing your tips on learning Marseille Tarot. I want to get into Marseille/Pip decks to help free up what the pip cards can mean when reading with them. Elle's video was great. Marseille meanings seem to be vastly different from RWS. It's definitely something to unlearn when switching systems. Yes! Context is everything with TdM. Jodorowsky-Camoin is my learning TdM deck. I feel pip decks force us to use our creativity by the patterns of each of them.

Yes, you're right, not only the specific meanings are to be unlearned, but also the mechanism we use to interpret cards. It's a very different territory, but fascinating and liberating :)

Bonjour, I am French, from the south, near Marseille (a pure Mediterranean mixture).
Wanting to discover what my Anglo-Saxon friends thought of the Tarot (they use, for the most part the Wait-rider) I discovered your video, with great pleasure.
I study the Tarot and I can confirm that the most complex, the deepest, the most subtle, is the Tarot of Marseilles, the real, the older.
His initiation, his practice, requires time, concentration, work. But did it not come from a time when the value of study and work was high? Tdm is the best tool to elevate your mind and that of your consultants.
I subscribe to your channel and will use your videos to improve my English.
    Greeting from Provence,
    Cyril

So the 10 of sword and swords in general I can't see any other way in them representing thoughts that sprout from ego. That's we I think the 10 is relevant in letting those thoughts die or in the Marseille be completed. I would consider the 9 of swords more problematic because just over the fact that attaining revelation in thought is much more liberating than it is oppressive and constricting. The 3 of swords just means sacrifice for me, sacrifice of creativity (the heart) sacrificed by the brain, nothing to do with romantic dilemmas.
