Iam from the Philippines and I have seen my share of different styles. Yes, I agree with what many are saying that it looks to complicated for it to work in the street. But I think we are forgetting the fact that we all have done things that we know we will never get to use.. Yet we do it. We do so we can attain familiarity... And by that, it gives you the coordination and the senses needed to survive in a real life and death scenerio... Salamat at Mabuhay kayong Lahat...

This it's why it's called a martial "art". Most of the practice beyond beginner level is an exploration of the possibilities within the art (often to an extreme). Most skilled pracitioners in a self defense situation will fall back to a few well tested and above all simple techniques. If you want to focus on pure self defense your training will reflect that, by working on becoming very very good at a small number of techniques. However, that will not give you deeper insights into the art. Neither approach is wrong, it's just knowing what you want to achieve and applying the correct approach to your training. Respect!

Now do it with someone who actually wants to hurt you and not dance around playing patty cake. I hope no one paid to be there that day.
If you aren't using sparring heavily to practice whatever combat sport it is. That particular style probably doesn't really work.

Every, "Style" of kali has show moves like this. One you go into the ring they go away. Calm down people.

Ray has plenty of other videos showing practical moves with stick, knife and empty hand. You just have to look for them. Yes, I agree, this move more than likely wouldn't work in a real life situation. But, you can't judge a teacher off of one video. Which is what it sounds like you're doing when we both know he would fuck both of us up no problem in a real self defense situation.

Hmmm that looks really cool....but im skeptical...I have ahard time accepting anyone could actually pull such moves off in a real combat situation. That chances of any of that even happening seem slim to none. But they could put this in a new Bourne Identity movie and I would enjoy it.

The moves you use are different depending on the scenario. Its up to you to mix and mash and decide what is the most proper move to do. The stick doesn't always represent a sword, it could be a makeshift weapon like a bat or club. Just use common sense when judging cause its obvious that you won't disarm a blade under your arm.

Those sticks don't represent swords/blades in this kind of training, this is stick fighting, at first the stick were used only to repsent swords or blades for training but in time this evolve in stick fighting and swordplay that have the basic principles but differ in other ways

i dont wanna be rude, but i cant understand why teach people so much fancy stuff, i can tell you that disarm wont work in Real Life. ppl will get injured or die, such Instructors shouldnt teach FMA. PPL waste to much money for that shit sorry. il know it i had a situation in Real Life, and PTK saved my live. but with that shit you wont survive..

Great technique against solo baston, but I'll have to say that this is a risky maneuver against espada y daga.

It could pass in the movies... But like you said, the chances of this being executed perfectly in a real fight is slim to none...

looks like something I might play with just for GP. Would look really cool during a training video or a disarm at a demonstration. Who knows, if I play with it long enough, I might be able to actually pull it off in a half real situation.

@ 1004w12, yes we know that most FMA styles shows fancy moves to much, and thats the problem. its useless... 10 cuts in 1 second? on a static dude ok, if hes untrained and moves maybe ok, but if he know what to do well noting more to say, then why do you show ppl that shit? its brainless only for show purposes and thats not ok, you should teach your students how to survive.. so tip wor all beginners you wanna survive go to Tim Waid (PTK) seminars or Paul Vunak.. those dudes know what there doing

I have a question, since those sticks represents swords/blades for training purposes, does all the disarm techniques apply to a real shard blade? Like in 1:27, I'm not saying arnis is a ineffective fighting art, arnis is a superb fighting art, it's just I'm asking. . peace and mabuhay ang arnis :D
