Let's imagine that my mum is divorced. She has a new boyfriend and her boyfriend's children from a previous relationship are my step brothers or step sisters because we do not share the same blood. If my mother had a child with her new boyfriend, they would be my half sister or brother because we are related, we share the same blood.
