    No, from my former balcony on the 11th floor. I brought out the camera an tripod every day.

    Being unfamiliar with the project, what was the reason for the reconstruction?

      Jackie Phillips The roadway was built in the mid 1950s, it was over ten lanes wide in a very short area; the roadway and infrastructure was in poor condition and the tidal water that came in and out of Lake Merritt went in an underground concrete culvert. So it was best to open up the water to the fresh air, and create a park and fewer lanes of traffic. A very successful project. The community is very happy with it.

    What a big missed opportunity that the city didn't build a protected bike lane here. Millions of dollars spent on building a wide, dangerous road with *six* lanes for cars and just a narrow bike lane next to speeding traffic. Sad.
