- A few months ago I began interviewing with PwC for a Senior Associate role. I went through several interviews with senior managers and directors. In this video I'm going to talk about my experience as well as several questions I was asked and I asked them in my actual interviews.

@@ahmedtarek3782 thank you bro. The SQL courses and portfolio videos were very helpful as from a corporate stand point as SQL is one of the primary ways data is explored and retrieved.

120k a year is pretty low for a *_senior_* consultant in a technical role, especially for a really large consulting firm like PwC.
Consulting is a notoriously intense line of work. Despite what they told you in the interview, you always go into those jobs knowing you're going to be working long hours. They know that and they compensate you accordingly. They retain you with money, not by making you happy. And you end up having to sacrifice plenty of things if you want to keep that salary.
The fact that you don't know this makes me feel you would have burnt out quickly because of misaligned expectations. There just aren't enough hours in a week to run a youtube channel, spend time with your family, sleep _and_ have a consulting job.
I knew this to an extent. I have never worked at one of these companies, but I know many who do. I definitely knew it would be more work, but I wasn’t/am not certain since I decided to go another direction.
How big is the overtime allowance, though?
Given Alex's knowledge, he should be at $200k+ full package. Working at a couple of startups, I know how much those folks make.
In my experience, best way to get into a big 4 company is through employee referral. They get preference on the "interest" scale. But it's not a 100%.

I agree that just stonewalling a recruiter on salary can result in wastes of time, however, I still don't think you should give a range because you could be low balling yourself. If a recruiter is pushing for a number, I'd ask the recruiter what the salary range is for the position and will just say yes or no if that range is worth moving forward (without them knowing if you are jumping with joy or they need to hit the top of the range to get you :) but this way you still get the desired result of both of you knowing you aren't wasting anyone's time.

So much of this resonates with me now watching this the a second time! Right down to the HR recruiter asking question I could tell they knew nothing about. hahaha. Isn't speaking in depth about your previous data work in your previous company a beach is data protection law?
Absolutely.
Congratulations on the new managerial position! I just started at one of the big 4 about a month ago. My interview process was pretty much identical, though I am in a different tech related field. One of the reasons why they are SO into domain knowledge rather than technical knowledge is that, to be honest, there are hordes of people who can do the technical part, but it is more difficult to find someone who can sit in front of a HUGE client and really dig out all of the details of the project from them. Then that same person needs to relay that information to the developers so they can do the coding work.
Consultants, at the big 4 level, are more advisors and SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) than coders.
If anyone has any questions about what it is like to be a consultant in the big 4, I would be happy to share my experiences.

@@mish9523 Hi Michelle, I am sure that they do. PWC and the rest of the big 4 are into just about every industry. I would recommend taking a look at the careers section on their website (Don't go through a recruiter if you don't need to). Just apply directly if you see a job that you are interested in. If for some reason they think you might be a better fit in another area, they will let you know. That is what happened with me. I applied for one position, but half way through the interview process, they said that I would be a better fit for another discipline and got me in touch with the right people.
All the big 4 are hiring like crazy right now. So it is the perfect time to apply if you are at all interested in working in the consulting field. But be warned, the consulting field is not for everyone.

Id personally drop half of them and go straight into Python. SQL, sure, the rest? I wouldn't. But then again, I'm in the Data Science / ML field.

I mean will i get job after self learning nd certification courses?
@@sakshisingh-nt8re certification will certainly help without the academic background. Learning online using the sources that are available is of course ideal. But without building a portfolio, you’ll certainly need fortification.
Learn online with free resources = build a kaggle page to demonstrate your abilities with your own projects and hope you can compete with Master degree candidates with experience which is the reality of the situation or,
Use online courses for certification and it will somewhat help you compete.
Real honesty- online certification, + kaggle + online learning.
I’m just finished my masters in DS/ML and have 2 years Analyst experience .. it’s certainly not easy to land a job relevant to my field of interest. I only just landed one recently and i believe I’m underpaid. But machine learning is very competitive so I’ll take it
Damn, 120 to be in that work environment is not worth it. Seems low with those skills.

Cant believe YT recommended this video to me today as I just finished a multiple offer situation for a senior data analyst this week too. I had a similar choice between a senior analytics consultant role with a major financial institution but ultimately chose to take a senior analyst role with a start up. I think it’s really crazy how much the salary bands for data analyst has clearly changed in the last year or 2 with the advent of remote work. Some of the start ups are legit throwing engineer money at senior analysts just to stay competitive with these big fortune 100 companies. Very interesting about the primary focus being on your industry knowledge. I guess that truly is more rare, and most firms can assume that any reasonably bright person can be taught or learn the data analysis stuff.

Interesting. I'm astonished you had next to no technical questions though.
In the UK for £50K , Senior data analyst, I had to sit for one hour data analysis exam which I could not finish it. Last year, I went to 3 interviews.I have masters degree in Computer Engineering and just recently passed Azure data engineer associate exam but found it really difficult to find a better job in the UK as a non native english speaker. I have an interview next week and it has SQl exam . They ask so many competency questions.
whats the difference between an interview for a senior data analyst versus an entry level/ junior data analyst interview?

Hello Alex. I decided to quit a Data Science Master's Degree that I enrolled on online after I found out about all the other resources like Khan Academy and Udemy through you. It sounds like knowing the skill is more important than having an expensive Master's Degree. I'm pretty sure i did the right thing. Congratulations to you Sir.

No not really - that's usually software engineers or data scientists that may use it

Congratulations on scoring the interview and in your decision to move in a more project management oriented path. My take on Travel-having been in a role that was 3 weeks every month, travel from M-Thursday and back in the office on Friday. It's not all it is cracked up to be. It puts a strain on families and relationships (it was single-handedly the reason my first wife and I divorced). Most of all, it's simply exhausting.
That's my take…YMMV.
Crazy 105-150 k per year sounds crazy. While football player could get that amount in a week. I know it is different thing. But still. There is so much unbalance resources spread in the world. The person back door that make improvement to this world to become better really get paid by a peanut

You didnt solve any case problems? This is problematic. I think your knowledge base doesn't deserve a job in PWC.
So, basically PwC is not worth it unless you're a grad and you want to work 60+ hrs a week?

the hiring manager was right on asking you why you were going backwards to consulting...really long hours and almost no personal time is the target they look for, young unskilled people (right out of college) so they can exploit them at their fullest. you were in the wrong place trying too hard to get into a big4
As a recruiter, the main takeaway that I already knew is that "Time kills all deals". In recruiting, you have to move fast because if they are a good candidate, you're not the only company that would want them.

What was your answer to why you took the opposite road? Going corporate and then going into consulting?
About 15 years ago, we received an RFP (Request for Proposal) from a major company - the day before it was due! We cranked out a response and sent it in before the deadline. We were then informed that we were one of two finalist companies. My company was small but comprised of well known leaders in the field; a boutique, specialist firm.
We were invited for an interview along with the remaining competitor who turned out to be PwC. We walked in and they were immediately "Oh, it's you!" They were going to ask interview questions - using my book as the reference! They saw the other person I brought with me and they knew him well too; I planned it that way. We got the deal. Later, for marketing research, I asked the client where PwC was judged to be better than us. They said that PwC had "really nice brochures..."

Do you think is possible to find a remote job as a data analyst if I am in another country (not USA)?
I 100% agree. I just got a consultant/analyst role and they were getting applicants left and right with plenty of SQL experience, but I got the position because they are an ERP/CRM implementation and support company which I have obtained extensive knowledge of over my previous roles.

Hi Alex, - silly question - age = 40yrs with no experience in coding / data science (the person has been working on the oil patch for more than a decade) ...is it too late to train to be data scientist / ML eng? Most of the jobs require a few yrs experience which in this case (data science) is 0. Whats your take on it? Should the person try something else?
no age is old. I am taking a SQL course at the moment and some of my classmates are in their 50's. you could learn in less than a year

@@fun2badult honestly, if you have a stem background from university, then companies are willing to take a chance on you with just the google cert. that was definitely the case for me.
