    This thing legit looks awesome. I saw on their site it says a SNES version is coming soon. I REALLY hope they expand and do it for DS and 3DS down the line. That would make for a great way to be able to stream these older games a lot easier.

      If you don't want to wait and don't mind using your own emulator you can already get the Retrode 2 right now. It can handle SNES and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive right out of the box and with some addons even GB/GBC/GBA, and N64. It also comes with ports to use the original controllers right on your PC, too.
      The only downside I've found on mine is that N64 games that save on the cartridge can't have their save game read out or written to, but that's only relevant for a few select games and Stadium.

    • @ArtisanAspirationWorks
      @ArtisanAspirationWorks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The NDS Adapter Plus is a lot cheaper but it can read and write saves from official DS carts and there's one for 3DS too but it's from another dongle.

    • @Entiss
      @Entiss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      One for the DS/3DS would be nice, although if you have a softmodded 3DS (which is really easy to do), dumping games and saves with that is a pretty trivial task. Devices like these lower the barrier of entry though, so they still have a place.

    This suddenly makes retro gaming a lot more desirable for me. I never liked using cartredges before because of the save file problem, I just use emulators for the convenience even though I have some of these games on my shelf. But if I can get something like this for NES, SNES & N64 as well then I would love to play them on the original consoles again.

    • @oscarcamey8
      @oscarcamey8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There's a device called retrode 2. I've used it to back up my N64 games. It has adapters for GB/GBC/GBA and N64. Has Sega Genesis and SNES slots on the device. It rips the ROM and save file from the cart, and you just save it wherever you want. I bought an everdrive x7 and my save files and roms loaded up legally lol it even has slots to connect SNES and Genesis controllers.

    If you do a soldered battery swap, like in the video, please be sure to clean the area around the solder with Isopropyl alcohol to remove the flux. If left on the pcb the flux can cause irreparable damage to the pcb and other components. An old tooth brush works well with the iso alcohol for this purpose, and dab it dry with a paper towel.

    If you use an x-acto knife to lift the edge of the aluminum connector to the battery, you can use flush-cut wire cutters to sever the battery without soldiering, then just bend the strips so that it pressure fits the new batteries in it. If it's still a little loose you can use scotch tape to hold it in place. Boom, easily replaceable GB batteries with no more soldering.

    • @RAHelllord
      @RAHelllord 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @thewolf8660 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3 years ago before I got robbed, this would have been perfect for me.
      Lost every pokemon game I had from red to sun and moon.
      Somehow I found I still have a few, leaf green, ruby, sapphire. But out of 32 main titles, getting robbed for 26 of em sucks.
      This also includes pokemon colosseum, gale of darkness, battle revolution, stadium 1 and 2.
      I only have
      X (just rebought recently)
      Crystal and yellow (virtual console)
      Ruby, sapphire, and leaf green.
      Sword, shield, and let's go Eevee

      at the very least if you want the safe backup/2-way transfer function, there are devices for it like the NDS Save Adaptor that I have (and that's the correct spelling)

    • @sirensongss
      @sirensongss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A hacked 3DS can do everything that a 3ds model would be able to do (dumping roms, injecting/dumping saves) it may also be able to do so for DS games? I don’t have much of a DS collection so I haven’t tried but I wouldn’t be surprised.

    • @nodoph
      @nodoph 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only device you'd need for backing up games and saves is the 3DS itself. And, well, a computer too. Using CFW you can flash the rom and save from both DS and 3DS games directly to the SD card to back up games, but I'm not 100% sure about the reverse like this product can do.

      You have free GameShark compatibility if you have an Android phone and load emulators (which can easily be found on the Play Store 😉). There's also no limit to the amount of codes you can use. It's what I do on my phone and laptop.

    The fact that this can dump and restore save files already makes it better than things like the Retron Sq. I may end up giving this a look. It'd make recording my GB/C and GBA games less of a hassle since I can just keep the same save going at all times, rather than have a physical save and an emulated save.

    • @bustergundo516
      @bustergundo516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How are you recording footage now?

    • @Rubycario-yt
      @Rubycario-yt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bustergundo516 I own a Retron Sq, and I use my Elgato to record that. The Retron is fine, but it's flawed in quite a few ways, namely things like the aspect ratio and jumping through the menus just to correct that, and that can only be done by hooking a keyboard up to the device. On top of that, the lack of ability to dump saves off of it. It's all run through emulation, the game card just acts kind of like a key so the device can read the save you previously had on the Retron Sq itself. This little device here seems like it'll be much better to manage and store saves. It's also cheaper than the Retron Sq, so that's an added benefit, too.

    • @bustergundo516

      @@bustergundo516 Lol, yeah this thing would go a long way. The main issue with the Retron is the set up and the lack of storing save files in a convenient way. It works great once it is set up, but having to do that for each and every session can be a hassle.

    This is a really cool idea. It's nice to be able to play GB, GBC, and GBA games through 1 device through your PC, upload games saves, upload the ROM, etc.
    This wouldn't be such a hassle if Nintendo were to make compilations of a bunch of these games (perhaps with some graphics updates) for the Switch. Just saying...
