What is the need of portfolio? What should be included in portfolio? Is it okay to show work on laptop?
These are some of the few questions we have tried to answer in this video. It is important to understand that a portfolio is more than just a collection of sketches and drawings. It is more than that.

Coming to your questions.
1. Generally portfolio is not asked in bachelor's. Though private colleges ask for it, but that is actually to test your handling skill. So it can include drawing and sketches only.
2. Here you did not mention clearly what grade are you applying i.e. bachelor or master's. So I'll answer both.
A. For bachelor's you don't have option in case of grade A colleges like NID/NIFT. You are allotted on the basis of rank. If you are applying in private college then you have choice, and in that case go for stream you want to pursue. To understand that you need to research what kind of job a particular designer get (here I mean what kind of life they have).
B. For Master's 2 things are important. First, your interest (which again depends on understanding job profile) and secondly understanding competition in particular stream (higher the competition harder it is to survive).
3. That would be a very long video. We will think about it. Till then you can discuss your dilemmas with us.
4. Yes. We are planning a video on situation test.

As far as I know it can be anything, oil painting, watercolor, charcoal, graphite, 3D rendering, digital art, calligraphy etc etc

First of all it is important to understand that clearing CEED does not guarantee admission in IITs or IISc. Each college conducts its own test. Each college on an average call 250-300 students for this test. So, if luck favors, you'll be called for this test. Rest depends on your performance there.

What type of research need to do for transportation desn portfolio fr NID
Let's understand this with an example, suppose you have created a design for new electric vehicle for vegetable vendors in your portfolio. Now, your research simply includes answer to some simple questions.
1. You must have analysed problem in the present cart/vehicle. What part exactly?
2. You must have used a particular material for durability. But why that material?
3. You must have thought about cost also. But, what factors determine cost?
There can many such questions. The point is be ready with such answers. That is your research.

How should people who did btech go about the portfolio when they have no prior experience in designing?
First, understand that you are applying for college and not for a job. Hence, your portfolio does not need any experience in the stream. If you already know things, what would they teach you?
Now the question would be... then what should be included in the portfolio?
Your college admission portfolio should show your design mindset and not experience! And, to show mindset, you just need to understand and embrace the design process in whatever self-project you are undertaking for the portfolio.

You can include problems that you have noticed around you. For example Indian Public transport is still not accessible...you can include some pictures of what difficulty people face...and then you can come up with your idea/design.
This is just an example you can explore and think accordingly.
is this video applicable for both B.Des and M.Des?
For B.Des, you don't need a portfolio (except private colleges). And, in that case, no need to dive into such depth at the graduation level.

NIFT GAT is like any other aptitude exam...it has been over hyped by coaching institutes...
Practicing reasoning and aptitude would be enough.

Secondly I wanted to ask can you please tell the approximate number of sheets that could be used in the portfolio n in the introduction part what all we have to write... Lastly my question is if we have variety of options n aren't sure which one exactly we will go for finally like fashion design, accessories design n textile design then portfolio should be based on the specific stream ? Portfolio is not required for bachelor course in NID, UCEED or NIFT. It is only for master's.
Only private colleges ask for it in bachelor's.

But, how should the portfolio be for BDes aspirants, who are either in 12th Or passed 12 th. I mean what they should include in portfolio as they haven't done any such great projects. They just have their raw work s
@@sudhakarurade8076 in case of bachelor's the correct word would be 'sample of work'. And it can include sketches of some products, paintings, writing samples (poetry, stories etc). That would be enough...
Projects with research and prototypes are not required for bachelor's students.

Yes. It can be presented.

Generally portfolio is not required for bachelor's program in UCEED, NID or NIFT. Some private colleges do ask for portfolio but there you can show them your sketching and drawing sheets. No issues.

There's a difference between a Designer's work and an artist's work.. so instead of showcasing only the best artistic masterpieces you have created, try to make some sketches of products around you or make your own modified versions of those products, or you can focus on some problems and come up with it's solution... This can be one way for it.
And yes keep both kinds of sketches i.e. portraits n and all +your own designed works...
