Bo Burnham talking about how he doesn't feel like he could satirize the internet in 2018 is a wonderful prequel to him villainizing the internet in 2021...
Ugh the fact that he values teenage girls’ thoughts ideas and emotions so much is amazing, just makes me love what he does a million times more (the bar is so low lmao :,))
I want bo to get interviewed in a way where he has no time constraints and can just read questions and talk and talk and talk because I’m always wondering what the rest of his train of thought would be after someone ends it, not that it’s necessarily bad and he doesn’t seem upset, but I’m just that intrigued
You would love his appearances on the You Made It Weird podcast! They're all 2 or 3 hours long and the host encourages him to go really deep on a lot of topics. Some of the politics didn't age well but he's also a lot more raw on that podcast than I've seen him in taped interviews like these.
3:55 "That the outside world, the non-digital world, is merely a theatrical space in which one stages and records content for the much more real, much more vital digital space" - Bo Burnham, 2021
The way he values realness and authenticity is like a breath of fresh air and makes me feel so understood. I wish more people valued being true and genuine the way he does. The eighth grade movie was beautiful and I saw myself in it so much because of Bo’s attitude towards reality
Just because most Ted Talks suck. They usually have a very plain generic message like: "this is why you should live life to the fullest", or: "give more hugs". They often try to seem sciency, but aren't actually scientific, because if they were, they'd be held in symposium and the main reason they can't do that is because 1) they have little to no data to support their hypotheses and 2) they overreach by FAR in their explanatory claims. (Like for example: "In modern societies the classic heroism-trope - a single man giving his life for his country - is being replaced by boys running amok" ... is something I have heard in an actual Ted Talk. And it wasn't even among the worst ones). But the main reason why I hate Ted Talks is because they try sooo hard to seem woke, yet always manage to be late to the table. Like a woman in her fifties encouraging women in their twenties to "explore their sexuality", or a straight man talking about why he isn't affraid of these ominous gays ... To be honest, if Bo ever gave a Ted Talk, I'd watch it. But mainly because most things Bo says in an interview are more profound, insightful and are actually logical compared to a Ted Talk. I still hope he won't though.
I think if I was interviewing bo I would just ask him one question that allows him to talk and then just sit and listen to him talk because omg he’s a genius
Guys, the only reason you don’t like Grace “interrupting” is because you’re used to Bo going on long (but interesting) tangents in more of a speech/standup format, but that’s not how this kind of rapid fire interview works. She let him talk enough, but she had to keep going with the questions.
Was actually about to comment criticism on that, but you make a good point. We really just want to listen to Bo talk forever and ever. I love hearing how Bo's mind works.
@@VivianDelphine I agree, I applaud her. she first of all was truly interested and was really listening to him and hearing the message and seemed like she wished they were just talking, not taping to just completely hear him out but it was a live taped t v interview and she had to maintain a normal back and forth conversation flow and the audience expected Funny and either they added prerecorded laugh tracks or half of the audience were so vapid and dumb that they kept laughing at everything, assuming that it was a funny joke and they don't want people to know that they didn't get it
I love how bo's brain works (though I am aware of his internal mental conflict). Also, anyone notice the microphones shadow? I mean, I don't want to be graphic, but Jesus that's phallic...
@@minarooda Fair enough. I've got to say though, from my years on youtube, I've never had anyone analyse and/or praise my comment like you have, so cheers (again!)
Ugh... I cried! I didnt think the movie would have super sad parts too! Maybe, I just related to the protagonist a bit more than others, BUT MAN WAS IT WORTH IT!
I think it's important to let the person talk...and actually let them finish...without interrupting... because you should give them that respect... as an interviewer.
Not sure why people always complain about interviewers interrupting. It's how they're supposed to do they're job, you can't just let the interviewee go off on a tangent when you have time constraints.
Not the way she did it. There's a finesse to it. Marc Maron, Larry King and Terry Gross will interrupt, but they don't interrupt just to spend 25 seconds trying to formulate a question to replace the one that he was answering. She also has to stop interrupting him to try and be funny 9:16
He is making these brilliant insights into the effects of the internet on our psyches, and making them fast because she's making him have to squeeze them in before she blathers on again.
thats a very interesting point. as young people grow up and begin creating to express how being this generation made them feel, we're going to have way better portrayals of it and im excited to see it happen.
I keep forgetting in the mid 80's 9th grade moved to High School. When I went into 10th grader 9th grade followed, that was in 1986. When I was in 8th grade it was the middle of middle school.
6:41 - Sounds like you should write a song about the internet Bo .... **smile** Also 6:41 - 8:54 maybe planted the idea for that song O_O .... Probably not, but it could have.
Really though, anyone remember MySpace top ten? Ranking your importance by how other people place you in their friend list? No wonder we're all a mess 😅
Yikes, she got really uncomfortable and didn't do a good job interviewing. Like it's okay to talk about the real stuff and not be so positive. That's who Bo is.
He seems very optimistic about the internet, yet I feel like it’s dying, like young people won’t be making anything because they see other success and don’t get it fast enough. I’d want to ask him how he thinks the internet is changing and how it is possible to START in today’s climate.
Imagine being a vlogger with 10 views, having no idea one of those views was Bo Burnham
Yes I imagine this ✅
i keep thinking about this and how weird that must be 😭
Bo Burnham talking about how he doesn't feel like he could satirize the internet in 2018 is a wonderful prequel to him villainizing the internet in 2021...
That's what i was thinking! So funny
FOr me it feels like he was able to both talk about both at once, showing the wonders and how it all goes
Like he said in the interview, it's funnier to be critical.
No, he satirized it.
LMAOO Im so glad he did. it got so much worse
i feel like if bo made a documentary, i would watch it on repeat until the end of time
don't forget to squeeze "alphabet" in there though... changed my perspective on learning.
i feel like that would become impractical.......hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Valhalla: he'll change the face of Ted talks.
He could rip them off without them noticing it ... He could be to the american elite, what Pierre Bourdieu was to french academia...
no joke I'd 100% watch a ted talk by bo burnham
Omg yes! He would be so perfect for that!

still can't believe on how deep his voice got overtime.
He's said before that he pitches his voice up on stage and in most interviews, I think he just decided to drop that a little here

Bo is literally everything I love. Intelligent and comedic. Like, I wish I had even half of his way of thinking.
I hope he does a movie kind of based on " repeat stuff." Commentary on modern plastic music and how it influences kids and general culture.
Joseph Gaudet That's a really interesting concept - maybe he will!

The world doesn't deserve Bo. Truly a fantastic person.

Everytime I watch a Bo Burnham interview, I realize again how tall he is. He deserves a trophy for it.
