If they want there to be any kind of weight to the title, then there needs to be rules that were followed in order to get the win. Using anything that breaks TOS would logically be rule number one, so while yes one team did finish first, they don't get to claim the title as they violated the rules. It's why streaming the fights are important, imo.
A very relevant video talking about the dot in the center of the screen would be the Folding Ideas video (I linked to the relevant section below - GREAT video). The dot helps to reduce the cognitive load on the player; removing the half second you use to find your character in a messy raid. I don't think SE would ever officially add it to the game because as you all point out, it reduces the "RPG" ness of the game. WoW had a similar dilemma a while back, where they noticed people modding the camera to zoom out way further than they intended. They originally pushed back on this, because while zooming way out is better for optimal play, it turns the game into more of an RTS-style game. They wanted to you to be close, more personal with your character. It's an RPG, you shoudl be connected to your character, feel like you are that character, not giving them orders from afar. "Given the opportunity players will optimize the fun out of a game" or whatever that quote is. Personally I agree, I think modern WoW raiding looks more like a spreadsheet than an RPG, which I hope FFXIV doesn't emulate. Grind was put on the leaderboards and Echo at least knew they cleared before people saw the plugin. Once that happened they were removed from the Mogtalk/Echo leaderboards
It’s easy to see why this is considered cheating. You know all those times you swore you were out of the attack and still got hit? Now imagine dealing with those attacks at a rapid fire pace in very confined spaces where every pixel matters while still needing to be doing your rotation perfectly watching debuffs, etc. Pixel perfect removes the need to factor in your spacing. You can automatically push every spot you stand to the max by matching the displayed pixel up with no effort when you would never be able to do that nearly as easy in the game without a lot of trial and error. It may not be straight “cheating” like hacking or something but it gives a massive advantage over someone that doesn’t have it and honestly it’s not needed. If you can’t solve mechanics without these tools then you’re just a little cringe.
add-ons are illegal if they modify game files in jp, aside from it being unfair to console users squenix HAS to say that add-ons are banned, even if they're legal in other countries
A point (ha!) I don't think Garrett got: The pixel that is your hitbox is also the pixel that is the center point for all screen zooming, pitching, and rotating. So that one pixel remains the same no matter your camera position. Kyle's idea of using his monitor's crosshair function would absolutely work all the time once it was set.
You're incorrect about this. Your hitbox pixel is not the center point for all camera rotations. It's possible you can adjust your camera so that it is, but that would involve pitching the default camera down making it way harder to see what's in front of your character. There's footage out there of this plugin working. The pixel moves as you rotate your camera.
I think that the main question that could be, and probably should be, asked is, "Has Frosty, or really anyone, tried talking to and coming to an agreement with the Dalamud team about disabling the use of and holding off on updating Dalamud's plugin infrastructure for the duration of the Race to World First?" Most of the game's easy to use plugins are through Dalamud so just having it off already kicks down most of the potential tools a racer can use. One might argue that turning off Dalamud for 95% of users because the other 5% need it turned off for competitive integrity is wildly unfair, but at the same time Dalamud-style plugin infrastructures should technically not exist. There just isn't a good solution because of the critical permeation 3rd party plugins have managed to achieve since the plugins arms race has started in Shadowbringers into Endwalker.
SE really should just normalize mods and incorporate them into the game properly. And then they can just ban the ones they think are bad for the games competitve scene. Theres no reason mods that affect glam or quality of life or rp or crafting, should be a part of the same conversation as combat mos that affect the raid competitions.
The issue is that FF is on consoles, so that dampers official modding greatly. Beyond that: i don't reallly want this game to become like wow where raiding teams are expected to be usingn Addons.
@@catzalotATJ that and any 3rd party affecting game files is illegal in JP. forget the wording of it but think its considered felony level in heavy fines and possible jail time so SE literally CAN'T endorse any 3rd party mods/addons. it would need to be in the base game as is or nothing at all sadly
They've BEEN incorporating mods into the game, most recently the ability to change the title screen expansion was a mod, chat bubbles is a mod and they're working on putting that into the game as of last interview with Preach.

NGL, my first thought when I saw the red dot drama starting was "WOO NEW MEMES!"
All these questions are why I'll always respect fishing titles way more than any ultimate title.
There are tools for fishing too. Like picking a specific fish and it does it for you
There are add ons for everything 😂

Whenever someone claims that some plugin doesn't really help, the counter question should always be "then why do you use it?"
