    I really thought the rope and ring was a gimmick. It brought a big smile on my face to know it was just an excellent slight of hand routine!

      if you count the extra end as a gimmick, it's a combo

    • @Calibursoul
      @Calibursoul ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While the main rope and ring aren't gimmicked in any way, the trick still contains an extra piece to assist with the illusion, which is classified as a gimmick.

    Got all of 'em! I knew how the first trick worked, as I'd seen it done before. The ring and rope require some skill but it's still just slight of hand. The printed cards were obviously gimmicks. The ring and coin trick is always a good one, but it's still slight of hand. The ball and vase is one that stumped me, but I knew there were gimmicks. But even knowing how they're done doesn't take away from the performance. Smooth as always. I learn a lot from you, and plan to do street shows at some point. You give me not only material, but also a good laugh every now and then. Thanks to you from the bottom of my heart. Keep doing you, man!❤

    The ball and vase was the first trick I got.... over 50 years ago, when there was a magic shop in Hamilton, Victoria (Australia). The multiplying billiard balls I got a few years later. Still have them both, but haven't performed them in about 30 years. Time to get them out to show the grandkids 😊

    2. combo (sleight)
    3. combo (gimmick)
    4. sleight (sleight)
    5. sleight (combo)

    I feel that where gimmicks fall flat is when they aren't supported with sleight. A well used gimmick can enhance a trick, but pure sleight will always impress me more.

    • @deucegalamagic
      @deucegalamagic ปีที่แล้ว

      You must be a "magician". Gimmicks and SoH are tools. One is not inherently better than the other. It's about using them appropriately.
      You can do a four ace transposition with gimmicks or SoH. It's no less miraculous to the spectator if it's via gimmicks. Most magicians would praise the SoH version tho, which funny enough, is PRECISELY what the spectator would assume is happening (fishy SoH, not slick gimmicks).

    2nd gimmick
    3rd gimmick box plus slight
    4th slight with faster than eye
    5th slight with 10000 hours experience

  • @gabrielesh7916
    @gabrielesh7916 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, I'm writing this right before the answers, but, to me, it depends on what you consider a gimmick. Using the last one as an example, I know that depending on where you grab the top determines whether it shows the top half of a red ball or the actual ball that is in it. To me, that's not a gimmick, it's just how the trick works, but it could be seen as a gimmick since it's the object that you're working with in conjunction with sleight of hand. I don't know if the first one had double backed/faced cards or if it was just sleight of hand, but I could see it going either way. The ring and rope is a gimmick and sleight of hand with the knot that moves along the rope, the restoring deck is both, and the ring and coin was sleight of hand since I'm assuming you had two rubber bands, (the one you broke and the one you used for the rest of the trick.) As for the last one, I consider it just sleight of hand since it's kind of like a double lift with a deck of cards but it's just a different object.

    Beautiful presentations. How old were you when you first started learning these skills?

  • @ftlPhysicsGuy
    @ftlPhysicsGuy ปีที่แล้ว

    (1) Started with slights, and while you added a gimmick (double backer), slights were still required. (2) Never seen an explanation, but I think there's a separated portion of a rope involved (is that considered a gimmick?) but you still have to use plenty of careful handling/slights. (3) Gimmicks, but still a few slights required. (4) Slights all the way. (5) Back to a gimmick with slights in the handling.

    ~Trick that Fooled Huddini: skill
    ~Rope and Ring: combo
    ~Printing cards: Gimmick.
    ~Ring Magic: Brushwood said it was pure skill, but I claim it's witchcraft.

    The sleight of hand portion of the ball+vase routine, especially with the multiplying white balls, is the better part of that trick. The red ball cap gimmick looks odd, at least in high-def video. The shape isn't quite right to be a perfect double for the red ball - it's kind of stretched out where it's attached to the brown ring of the vase.

    I was hoping the rope and ring (and I guess same is done with the ring and rubber band) was gimmick, though saw some sleight of hands there, too (like hiding in the hand instead of putting in the mouth). But now that I know it's all pure sleight of hand, I'm really interested into you showing us how it's done! Especially the thing with the rope ends and turning it into a loop and back (unless you're switching two different ropes). Thanks for yet another perfect video!
