More accurately France WAS participating, but dropped out because costs were jumping too high. They then went with the Rafale, which is arguably at least as good and maybe superior to the Eurofighter, at least in some aspects.

The french participated and true costs were far too high for them and they wanted lead on the design as well as a more specialized aircraft for their specific needs and felt without them innlead their contributions would be directed at resources not needed.

@@manumanu-li3fethe capabilities of the EF are different to them of the Rafale, the concept of the EF was a AA-fighter and was later convertet to a multirole-fighter and the concept of the Rafale was always a multirole-fighter, for this reason the Rafale has better AG capabilities (e.g. higher payload), but in AA the EF has advantages especially in high altitudes and high speed combat (e.g. better thrust to weight ratio). In my opinion this are both very capable fighter. And the F35 isn't a replacement of the EF it's rather for replacement of the Tornado and the Harrier.

So, the thing to remember about the French is their national security strategy. It's a top priority for them to maintain independent capability. That includes development, construction and sustainment. So they will cooperate with other nations, joint development and such, but they keep full copies of the blueprints, as it were. They develop their own aircraft, ships, vehicles and equipment across almost all types. They have an independent nuclear capability. They also maintain the capacity to achieve independent expeditionary operations. Pretty much unique capabilities in NATO aside from the US. It was really valuable from an American perspective during the WOT. One of the regions we were concerned with was terrorism in the Sahel region- an area of interest to the French. They also had the diplomatic network with local governments there so they had it handled with their regional allies with little direct assistance from the US. Meaning no disrespect to our other allies in NATO, because we all have our parts to play, but having an ally like that is great. It can also be a pain in the ass because if the the rest of NATO disagrees with the US, they're the first to tell us to, uhh, jog on (is that what you'd say in the UK? Bugger off, maybe?). But, you know, sometimes we may need to hear that.

We diverged from the Eurofighter program to build an aircraft suited to our needs. Our goal was to create a versatile multirole aircraft capable of deploying a french nuclear weapons systems (ASMPA) and executing carrier-based landings.
In the other hand other european countries wanted a superiority and interception role fighter. An now they need to buy F-35s to use nuclear weapons and seek the U.S. approval to use these bombs.

yes you are right my friend, the French were incredible, they fought with ferocity, let's not forget that the Germans trampled on the laws of war by bypassing the French army through Belgium by trampling on the neutrality of a country! The French had to urgently reorganize, which they did brilliantly despite all the difficulty. let's not forget that they faced a German army in top shape, fanaticized, and doped with Pervertine, an army which will be defeated but at the cost of 5 years of war and with the two biggest powers in the world of the time involved and 21 million deaths for Russia only! what should we hope for? that France resists an army made for conquest and war against an army made for peace? the French population at the time was 47 million people, Germany almost 70 million having, moreover, a fierce desire for revenge from WW1.
Don't forget that the French saved the British army from disaster and through their sacrifice allowed it to escape from Dunkirk and return to England.
Despite this, France held up very well, all you have to do is listen to the speeches of very famous German generals such as:
      - General Erwin Rommel who described the fighting with the French army as "extremely tough" and recognized the ability of French troops to organize effective occasional resistance, despite unfavorable circumstances.
      - Général Heinz Guderian One of the main architects of the Blitzkrieg and commander of the German armored (Panzer) forces, Guderian also expressed his respect for the French army. In his memoirs, Erinnerungen eines Soldaten ("Memories of a Soldier"), he mentioned that French units fought with admirable courage, notably the armored divisions.
      - Felfmarchal Franz Halder, chief of Staff of the German Army during the French campaign, Halder noted in his diary the fierce resistance of French units
      - Feldmarschall Gerd von Rundstedt who notably highlighted the difficulty of breaking through certain defensive lines
      - Général Hans von Kluge whop did not understand how these French people could resist with so much courage and valor to protect at the cost of their lives the pocket of Dunkirk where the English were embarking in disaster towards England
      - Etc etc...
no, the French were remarkable against a disproportionately superior army!
To finish I will quot you the dramatic moment of this verbal confrontation under the bombs between the French (Abrial, Fagalde, Altmayer) and the future British Marshal Alexander who evacuated his troops and refused the fight while the French continued to resist :
-Fagalde (french): So you admit that the French army alone is covering the embarkations of the British army, while the British army is not providing any assistance to the French army for its withdrawal?
-Alexander (english): I am more than willing to cooperate with you, but I must inform you that my troops will begin withdrawing tonight at midnight, in accordance with the orders I have received from General Gort.
-Altmayer (french): I believe I must insist on the concept of honor. We are fighting to save everything that can be saved, whether British or French, but we cannot leave our position without feeling that we have fulfilled our duty. That moment has not yet arrived. We can achieve more, provided the British are willing to assure us of their support.
-Alexander (english): I have received orders to embark at midnight.
-Altmayer (french): But, General, we have been given a mission by Admiral Abrial and General Fagalde, explicitly confirmed by General Gort. It is to defend the Dunkirk bridgehead with all available French forces and three British divisions. We must fulfill this mission.
-Alexander(english): I have not received orders from General Gort.
-Abrial (french): In sum, the letter that General Gort wrote to me, the only one I consider valid, contradicts the verbal orders he gave you, General. To ensure we act in full agreement, I propose that we go together to see General Gort. It is 4:30 PM, and he told me he would not embark until 7 PM. La Pérouse, please announce our visit to General Gort.
-Alexander (english): There is no need to see General Gort; he left at 4 PM.
-Abrial (french): Since we can no longer count on British cooperation, General, the mission assigned to me will be carried out by French troops alone. We French are bound by an imperative mission: to resist to the death to save as much personnel as possible from the Dunkirk bridgehead. As long as that goal is not achieved, we will stay in place.
In reality, notes Dominique Lormier, who brought this dialogue to light, General Gort did not leave Dunkirk until 2 AM on the night of May 31 to June 1, 1940

Norway is also a good example (my country), people call Norway's military small and that is the trick! (I would say that of course)
the active force is the active force, but it's when you start to look at reserve numbers things starting to get weird! Norway's Home Guard is listed as the reserve force, when it is actually something between active and reserve force, they are almost similar as a normal active infantry force. What is not listed, is the 170000 reserve force, where 40000 of them are doing Home Guard duty

That said, it also means they have a strong domestic industry and that's a thing to be respected.

France does what they want and refuse to use other countries equipment if they don't have to. So they make most of their own stuff, and I am pretty sure are the #3 arms dealing nation in the world after the US and Russia. Though after Russia's debacle in Ukraine, France may be #2 now.

Afaik, we have 137 Eurofighters and now, 31 of the 32 F35-Bs as yet delivered. One F35 having taken a nosedive over Hms Queen Elizabeth's ski-jump into the Med. We also do still have over 300 x C2 MBTs though only the c210 cited are still operational and with the C3 life extension UK tank nos will reduce yet further to just under 150. Meanwhile, the French in fact have even fewer operational MBTs than we have and though lighter French AFVs outnumber UK ones by approaching c6,600 compared to just over c5,000 French AFVs are all wheeled, not tracked and less capable than the big % of UK tracked equivalents.

    • @solinvictus1234
      @solinvictus1234 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

The experience ispretty much converging at the same level due nato conjoint training.
The LAND higher level of readines, if we talk about nato readiness troops Corps, the best are the Italians of the Folgore Brigade Paratroopers, capable to deploy mortars and their foot on the ground on land, with a launch, in 80 minutes (nato numbers). If we talking about in combact readiness status of weapons, USA above all and then France. Italy and UK in this period have some issue with their land forces (they are rethinking their recruitment system due what's happening in Ukraine).
AIRFORCES AND NAVIES: USA above all, then Italy and UK are very strong with their navy and af, expecially in multifomain and electronic warfare. France have a slightly better navy than UK and Italy due their blue wather capabilities.
The ratio of operational equipment of USA is massive, the European one actually can sustain a medium term war, not a long one. But the whole Europe is working to activating their silent war industry, due Ukraine facts.

Poland is going to be the main country to challenge Russia after America has walked away. They know that and that is why the are investing heavily, urgently, to get up to speed. They have tried hard to support Ukraine, and done a good job of it. It will play to their advantage as Russia has worn its stocks down over the last two years. Poland with a modernized military will be in a far better position as a result to challenge Russia. This could have all been over if it wasn't for American domestic politics. That was always going to be the deciding factor in the Russian Ukrainian war, and it has proven to be right. Whilst it should not be down to America, alone, to save the Ukrainians, it is America that has fucked it all up.

In France we have our own fighters since decades. It was AlphaJet for training, Mirage 2000 for active missions, and since 2000, one of the best multirole fighter in the world, the Rafale.
And our Aircraft Carrier is a nuclear propulsed Aircraft Carrier and the only one compatible with US Marine aircrafts.
So our Rafale can land and take off from US aircraft carriers as US aircrafts can land and take aff on our french Aircraft Carrier.

there is some value in blind munitions. a shell once it's fired is very hard to intercept and can't be subject to EW to mess up it's targetting. i heared that the US navy is giving a second though to battleships over carriers recently for such reasons. a shell is completly passive and once it's shot either you evade it or you get pummeled.

    • @askallois
      @askallois 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Netscape-kd6mg Maybe, but for example the 127 Oto Melara with Vulcan guided ammunition reaches 120 km, with an accuracy of 2 metres. You can also use conventional shots, but the guided ones activate the GPS, or IR, or Laser when the bullet is almost on the vertical of the target. The 76 in Strales version guides a projectile with a radar beam towards the target. Good for drones and subsonic anti-ship missiles.

    • @Netscape-kd6mg

@@askallois laser and IR can be countered and GPS scrambled so even if tehy start dummy, in a situation where their active targetting is countered because the enbemy simply just counters blindly because tehy know you have that then all your gazdgety bling is just ewaste that drives up the cost. in the end it's cheaper to sedn 30k dumb rockets to carpet the area over on gided missile that's a one shot kill given a conflict prolongs long enought. All mlilitary experts are in agreement that our hightech gadgets is usefull in war only because we don't have real battlefieldzs nowadays. the ukrainien war was teh first real prolonged conflicts we've had in decades and they see that supplying any real amount of smart munitions in numbers enough to matter just costs way too much over long periods of time
