All the Yamaha FZ’s tank has two components - outer tough fibre panel and an inner metallic tank. The reason for outer fibre being, 1. Style factor - muscular aesthetics. 2. Cost factor - the repair cost in case of a fall (repairing a small dent in a metal tank would be more ). The fibre panels can be replaced at a lesser cost. As far the safety is concerned, the inside metallic tank holds the fuel. Some of the FZ owners have raised same complaint about the tank and its quality. It is due to the fibre part.
