They really shit the bed with UFC, they need to stick to the simple mechanics of boxing, adding kicking and grappling is apparently much too hard for the Devs at EA
Anyone who has ever competed in boxing realizes FNR4 is more realistic. Fight Night was my favorite series... had to skip out on Champion and have been waiting for a true boxing game to come out ever since
I'm sorry but round 4 was far more realistic in terms of gameplay and control. In boxing it's all about countering and dodging at the right time, not just to do 520 punches without stopping like you can do in champion. I know that champion looks a lot better but that's where the advantage ends.
My two cents: Graphics are AWESOME in Champion, they're really good. It looks incredibly realistic, especially in a 1080p TV. Champion mode is awesome, the "create your own career" mode was fun in earlier games, but I realized that it got kinda lame, it lacked story... Mostly just a random speechless prospect who fought over and over. In Champion, the story mode is enticing, with new challenges (prison?) However, it is short. ...
You do not need to block each side separately but you do have to choose between blocking head and body. Countering is more realistic in round 4, rather than freezing for a second the fighter goes off balance after missing a punch and you need to hit them in that time
I used to think R4 was better, and visual wise it is, I love that game. But champion has a simplified way for throwing punches that doesn’t leave you throwing ones you didn’t mean to cause you had to wind up or something. I don’t like the parry system tho in champion, but they’re both great. I just didn’t know how to play champion at first coming from round 4.
Iam torn on the 2! I like how FN4 requires head AND body blocking and also needs faster reactions on the counters but FNC does have improvements like the ability to throw your punch WHILE stepping backwards or sidewards. Punches are a faster, more realistic speed but also you can step right into a punch and hit like a lunging left hook that can really catch people off guard. The parries from FN3 need to be brought back though aswell as the feints that are in UFC3. Footwork also needs work.

@corytclark well actually tyson height was changed bc he is really 5'10 they just listed him as 5'11 in the majority of his fights...in his early career the said tyson was allot closer to 5'10 than 5'11
This side by side actually shows how little EA improved the game...the ring walks were almost identical...the presentation hasn't changed at all beyond the slight tweak in graphics xD
In Champion mode, they removed the need to have to train to raise stats. While I do find this somewhat boring, I think it's fine considering training got repetitive and boring, and in the previous games failing training sessions could lead to a character's stats messing up throughout the whole career. What I realized is missing is a couple heads on the roster. (Micky Ward, David Tua anyone?) However, this lead to a "petition" to add these characters as DLC to the roster.
The gameplay is great, I've played FN3 and FN4 and I feel like this is the most smooth, somewhat more realistic system of all. The counter-punching isn't too cheap, it feels alot more fluent. There ARE spammers in this game, who basically mash buttons. It's very cheap, however people are developing ways to beat spammers. The reason why FN4 fans hate Champion is because they can't adjust, the same way FN3 fans hated FN4. The game is great, and things change. And besides, bare knuckle mode!

@kingbjohnson might be because i use buttons. In champion it seems to give up after the first punch when throwing eg jab uppercut hook . Uppercuts are the worst 9 times out of 10 if you throw them after moving your head and stop blocking like you would to counter punch it wont even throw a single one. There is no skill in defence as you cant learn to predict what people are doing. Watch Joe Frazier fight and then try and immitate his head movement. You can barely move your head in comparison.

i have both games, and i think i prefer round 4 - i like the graphics better, plus champion gets heaps annoying after a while, especially when its heaps hard to clinch, and legacy mode is shit cos of the training games (you cant auto train this time...) - all the fighters skills/stats are heaps are overly complicated..
I find Round 4 to be superior.I don't like automated healing,KOs come out of nowhere,stamina drains too quickly and Champion looks more cartoonish than Round 4 but thats just my opinion.
I agree....I've got Champion but can't stand that they have the auto block crap on there...the flash kO's are ridiculus! In FN3 I almost mastered the block and it took forever to get my skill level to that point. Does FN4 have manual block like FN3? what about parries?
FNR4 has better fighters on the game and you can spend points on your fighter inbetween rounds of a fight..the 1 thing i dount understand is that on FNR4 you could just hold your jab and stay on the outside and box the other opponent rather than just brawling..when i played my friend on champion i tried to stick on the outside and use my jab but he just came in with 1 or 2 power puinches and knocked me out and i tried again and my guy got too tired to keep jabbing.
round 4 is soo much better..it actually takes skill to win on round 4 because each fighter fights different..on champion however you can fight the same way with every fighter and win its soo unrealistic
FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 and FIGHT NIGHT CHAMPION... I have both of this two PS3 Game. They are both EQUAL to me. FNR4 has a better Graphics while FNC has a better movement... EA always create a game something that we can choose base on what we Likes.., Nice move EA........
I boxed a little and have some skill on fnr4. I have 500 fights and can hang with people who have 5000 fights. but in champions I played a friend who doesn't box at all and doesn't play the game at all and I got my ass whooped. the physic's in champions were way off imho

Round 4 ownes Champion...Champion is a piece of crap, waste of my f*cking money.... Ok, in champion, the story mode is "ok", but jeez....the gameplay is so crappy, the punch control system in 4 gave a real realistic feel to it, so does the impact of the punches. In champion when you land a puch it still seems like y'r hitting air. Champion is collecting dust ever since I bought it, but round 4 is still in my PS3 every day!
i bought champion and have played it alot but all the skill has been taken out of it. Ring movement is worse, head movement is worse, combinations of punches dont register and 1 button blocking is shit.
so far as gameplay, footwork and punch animations, they still are too lazy to add depth. This game has a lot of potential. A real sim beats arcade any day
Champion is not as good as round 4. You fight with 1 style for every single fighter on the game and you can win...I was klitchsko and my friend was lennox lewis..i knocked my friend down twice in 1 round and it looked like i was gonna finnish the fight straight away..he randomly hits me with 1 punch in the same round and he knocks me down and it was a flash knockout so i couldnt even try and get up. THATS HOW STUPID THIS GAME IS!
@boggyLP Counter-punching was what made Round 4 a truly shit game. It's a fast arcade game where the better boxers counter every decent punch in the later parts. Awful game.

this game is more about its roots which is fn3 fast lightning punches over slowness and the motion blur is great for judging punches and graphically

For pure boxing... I'd say FNR4, for brawling I'd say FNChampion. Both are great. Although I hate the music and menu in FNR4.

no round 4 is anolog stick only while Champions and the other allow you to use buttons as well.
