When I graduated college back in 2005, I returned home with everything I brought to school! I didn’t have the luxury or the “comfort” of buying a bunch of stuff while away. And if I did buy stuff you best believe I wouldn’t be throwing it away. Just proves Kelly’s point even more that we truly do live in a wasteful “throw away” society. I reuse or upcycle everything I can now as an adult. Much love from NY guys ❤
College move out dumpsters make me so sad. Just a little organization could really make a huge difference in the lives of those who need the things that are thrown away. Bless you two.
Alex has became a pro! I remember before he would ask Kelly if he should grab certain stuff .... but now he automatically knows what to grab. My fav TH-cam Couple for sure!!!!! goals lol
When I was in college, I used the same things over every semester. I only threw away true trash. I didn't have the luxury of getting new items every semester. Thank you for saving perfectly useful items from the waste yard!
I live near Princeton University and I was amazed at the amount of Bicycles that they leave at the end of the year… but they leave them locked and eventually maintenance will cut the locks after leaving notices on them. But they sit there and literally get rusty. Like why not just leave it there unlocked so someone can take it if you can’t go donate it and you don’t want it?!
The university of Maine has several massive yard sales that the students sells items they don't want to care home. Everyone is invited to come on campus to shop the deals. Mini fridge 10 or 20 bucks. Major finds for very little money. Towards the end of the sale people just give stuff away so they don't have to carry it to a dumpster. Maybe it's just a Maine thing after we were first to charge a deposit on bottles and cans so they would be recycled. First to do away with plastic bags so you have to purchase paperbags or bring your own reusable bags. The first and maybe only state to ban billboards because they are ugly. 😊
The school I went to in Ohio in 1973 had a monitored area where students brought “still good” items. You could drop off for free or pick up for free. The monitor made sure trash wasn’t dumped there. At the end of the week leftovers were donated.
@@janh5199 the town dumps all around me has small buildings called the swap shop. You have something you don't want like or use anymore you put it in the building and whoever wants it takes it home for free. There are different building for different recycling. We don't have trash removal so everyone goes to the dump 99% of the town recycles everything they can because it effects the property tax rate. Real trash cost money to haul away. Recycling pays the town money so basically it's a no brainer.
I liked the dumpsters that college students used at the dorms and apartments that rented to them, when they moved out. I found appliances, art, décor, laundry soap, dish soap, computers, stereo equipment, pots, pans, dishes, clothes, furniture, lots of good things. The college where I live has a lot of students from all over the world. I think when they leave to go home a lot of them fly and can't take all of their stuff with them, therefore they dispose of it in the dumpsters.
Hello Ms.Kelly and Mr.Alex... I just wanted to say that I truly love that you and Mr.Alex go diving together. I also love how you save things from the dumpsters.. I really miss going out to dumpster diving since my hubby and I don't have a car... I have been stuck in our house for almost 2 years now... I really wish I could go back and start diving again,as my hubby and I need things. And with us both being on SSDI it would make it easier. Keep smiling and enjoying what you both do.. Love you both ...
I’ll never understand how they can’t seem to organize something better than dumpsters at the end of each year. Good on you for saving some from the landfill ❤
@@tracyjenkins9395 exactly! Maybe even a reward system for students who choose to bring their unwanted items to a donation drive. It could be turned into a fun year end event.
University nearest us took clothes, appliances, and other supplies for a student thrift store next fall semester. I don't know how much they got - we pulled a working microwave and drink fridge, laundry cart with wheels, lamps, and huge Ikea wall organizer with a ton of little baskets.
I work at a university in New Zealand and they run a thift store and recycle as much as possible at end of year. Initiative run by students and university
You two are 100% my favorite! Every evening I look for a new video! I decompress after working watching you two! Much love from Western North Carolina!!!
Collage Campus dorm throw always are totality DIFFERENT ! When people throw away reusable , needed , wanted by someone else is different too , sometimes I get in a MOOD , its a right now release ! Regreted later ! But a cleanse right now , I want to get rid of so much stuff ! A big box and some one to take it away ! I love sharing with you guys on your dives !
I wish Colleges, Apts, Businesses, etc had small out buildings to put usable goods that the community can take, so as only to have true garbage go into the landfill. Bigger places could have one for food items or small pantries that could be accessed by those in need. We have what's called free fridge/pantry locations and little libraries. Different locations have different setups. Some actually build multiple shelves and have food and clothing. Others put other household items next to these as free giveaway places. Anyone can put things in free pantries or libraries for anyone in the community. Bigger household items are usually offered on free sites or donated by personal people. I wish more bigger businesses either had places for the community to take them from or donated more often. If blankets or other usable things are intact I'd take them and wash them, so many people could use them.
I am loving the influx of videos!! I get so excited when you guys have a new one. I know putting out videos can be a lot of work but just know that you guys are one of the best dumpster diving creators out there. I also love that it’s become a duo. Although I love the duo or just Kelly. Happy college move out season!
My roommate and I are on the last two weeks of college and so far we’ve found a working mini fridge and microwave which I will be giving to my mom. We also found a bookshelf, and ironing board, a side table, a plastic shower caddy practically brand new and a seem to be never used mini rug. We plan to go diving every day this week so we can get the good stuff, if we find any more working appliances we will be giving them to my friend who is doing an organization to help college students to get the essentials they need. It’s just crazy though that someone threw out a working microwave and fridge. Luckily the plate in the microwave wasn’t broke
OMG Kelly! I started watching you a couple years ago and I was always intrigued when you went out diving. Every now and then, Alex would pop up, but nothing much. Now, he’s all into it and making things happen! You all are such a cool couple❤❤ Keep saving the 🌎!
When I was in College in the late 80’s early 90’s, I didn’t throw anything away, I had to keep it for next semester! I would move in over like 2to3 weekends, and move out the same way. My folks had 4 children, nothing went to waste, if I didn’t use it, my brother, sister or twin could! Blessings and Peace ✝️❤️
Wow, it's weird to see Alex driving instead of Kelly. I love the way you guys have SO much fun while dumpster diving!! Very inspirational. Much love and many amazing blessings to you guys!!
Great haul!! So glad you were able to save a lot of good stuff. I want to check college dumpsters, but I don't know where they are. Looking forward to the review 😀
I'm sure I've mentioned this before but you have to park the truck along the side of the dumpster you can stand in the bed for the stuff immediately in the bed therefore it's yours no argument and you can make quick egress PS also good to climb in and out of the dumpster🎉
Freshman year, I had to live on campus. You bet I grabbed whatever I could from the "junk" piles during dorm move out for the apartment my roommates and I leased for the following year ! It all sat in the apartment until we returned in August. It saved us sooooo much money to " garbage" pick !
I've been watching you for a couple of years and it blows my mind that you can even get on the campus! The university near me requires a special pass to get into the campus. I worked in the dorms where the kids got rid of all their stuff and used to come home with tons of stuff. I even found someones lisence! The kids will throw everything out. One kid was picked up by a chauffer who loaded the kids stuff into the car for him. Oh the stories. What a nightmare in those dorms for move out.
I always look forward to your videos. Sadly in Southern California most of the dumpsters are locked. I have to travel about 1 hour away in the bigger city to dumpster dive.
