Thanks Pink G10. In full disclosure, I have just recently accepted a full time job for employment with Microtech. After the video of course....I am now assisting them with their social media and other things. Funny how things work in life.
Man, what a video. Didn’t even know this blade existed. I wish I worked for a guy like you, I’d learn a lot. Thanks for sharing all this with us I really do appreciate your channel very much, Godspeed.
Thanks Joaquin. I am going back to the wood working shop that sold them to me. I am not happy about that. I guess I am going to get one of those chain mail gloves for future tests.
Thank you for this review Ray. I just ordered a Socom Alpha Mini - S/E Stonewash Partial Serrated. Actually my wife ordered it for our 10 year anniversary. After watching this video I am even more excited. I like throwing knives and tomahawks so I thoroughly enjoyed the socom alpha mini throwing. In the future you guys should put up giveaways of these torture tested knives. They would be a great conversation piece for someone to show off. Thank you again for your reviews.
@@zotiac1231 I haven’t even cut anything with it yet. Ordered a Molle Lok. May mount it on a chest rig. Ill probably have to get another to torture test.
I would never have dreamed to do half of the things you did with that knife. Lol It is very impressive how it performed. I definitely will keep it in mind. Great video, thanks!
Watching in 2024. I’ve had the Tanto socom alpha for 2 years and mine has been as durable as yours. I’ve used it for cooking over camp fire, prying, stabbing, carving, creating kindling and carried it everyday at time w a ulticlip. For being m390 it’s remarkably durable but I think the blade stock has a lot to do with that. The handle is too small so I put a tightly wound lanyard on mine and it helps. I also drimmeled the hot spot on the handles and it’s good now.
It'a nice to see your viewers suggestions taken into consideration during your videos! Definetly we learned a lot about kevlar gloves against a Microtech. I just want to say that I wiped a freshly sharpened knife ( not a Microtech) the same way you did in this video ( edge towards my fingers) and I sliced my finger pretty bad. For your safety please wipe it the other way around next time ;) Besides that, thank you for the great job you do and keep it up!
All I can say is you have to love Keyboard Warriors.....LOL....Nice testing as I like the knife and the back handle does seem a bit slim since I am a large glove size so I like something to hold onto.....They have such good quality knives as right on.....Nice testing with the salt as that was awesome.....Good stuff....

I’ve got the same knife but in Elmax. It’s a great steel but wish it was M390 or 204p. I took the screws out of the sheath and turned it around for a horizontal small of back carry with a right hand draw. It’s way better than the vertical orientation. Try it. You might like it.
I can’t wait to have this knife next week. I just bought the Spartan Ronin Shinto. Great knife. This one is sooooo nice and you just sold me even more now.

The main problem with Microtech knives is that every time, every time, I look the knife is “unavailable”. Such as this model. I have a .85 and a Ultratech signature. It’s really hard to get anything else…
Oh, I apologize, I forgot about the tree-huggers...Ya'll (e-v-e-r-y tree-hugger everywhere) do realize that around 100 - 200 years ago every body chopped wood or knew how, right?
Hi Ray, thanks for sharing this test. I wasn't a fan of Microtech, but your video changed the impression. I'm wondering if you are interested in filming tips about maintaining knives. I sharpen my kitchen knives myself with a very traditional Chinese method. I have to check if the edge keeps in line with my bare eyes. And I don't think it's a good idea to sharpen these beautiful blades. I see some people use that kind of easy sharpening tool. Just put the blade in a V type groove and drag it a couple of times. What I don't understand is that from the texture of an edge, we can tell it was originally sharpened vertically instead of horizontally. But for me, if I sharpen the edge vertically, then it is almost impossible to keep it in a line. Would you like to share some experience?
ABSOLUTLEY Love these video's! but why does it feel like I'm watching in 1998 with the video quality?? please fix that! these videos will be around for years to come.
Yeah of the three microtech fixed blades I own I do not carry not one of them even though the knives themselves are great the sheaths and the belt attachment methods need some work and some redesign or rethinking if they actually expect anybody to carry and use them! Hell just make a dangler that could attach to the sheath and then it allows movement of the knife while attached to the belt so of you sit down you don't pierce your ribcage with that very pointy handle....
Although it may be a good utility knife I think that it is more suited for self defense/combat. I would take this over any Kabar, Tops, Gerber fixed blade.
no don’t sharpen it!! you’ll void your lifetime warranty. according to microtech website you have to pay to send it in and pay them to sharpen it if you want to maintain the lifetime warranty. Like what the actual f@ck is that about? If you spend 300 dollars on a knife and the company says the only way to maintain the lifetime warranty is for them to service it. including the very basic task of sharpening them it shouldn’t cost you the end user anything extra. I own a combat troodon from 2012 and love the knife but will never buy another microtech simply because of the aforementioned policy.
Hey Street Rocket Joe. So, my understand is that people were sending in knives to get sharpened after they had taken it to a bench grinding wheel. I was shown some examples and it was unbelievable! They (MT) actually posted a video saying that if it was professionally sharpened it would not void your warranty. They even gave recommended sharpening angles. I think they put that in there to cover themselves from people that destroy their knives trying to sharpen them themselves.
X-RING fair enough I was unaware of that info and it is not readily available on microtech website. So thanks for providing some insight. I carry my troodon almost daily and use it for extremely lite duty things (its not my beater). I have had it since 2012 and I just recently felt like I needed to have it sharpened so I went a head and sent it to them for service. but man did it leave a bad taste in my mouth which my be apparent. I even questioned it over email with the rep I was speaking with who was nice and accommodating but never was the reasoning or anything explained. Nor was it suggested or implied that I could maintain my warranty if I properly sharpened the knife myself.
You asked sooooo..... High speed blunt force to the cutting edge. Say split bullet's. I did a NRA China made knife and split the knife and not the bullet. I know you can!! Your "The X-RING".
You will never see me doing this to my 400 dollars Socom mini with bronze washers and all carbon fiber. The only place that will go is in some guys neck or torso that’s it. Lol I’ll use a real out doors knife like esse or tops. Don’t ruin beautiful knives like this you’d be an idiot. Lol real knife lovers would agree. Anyone who says ahh it’s just a knife and it needs to work. So wrong and not a knife nut.
Lol you okay? I recall seeing the words "test" and "review" in the title. Any sharp piece of metal can be used to stab someone. If I'm going to drop the money on a knife this expensive, I want to know what it's capable of. After watching this video I'm pretty sure I do.
