  • The gas tank in my Balboa was leaking, and I'd been putting off fixing it because it's pretty involved.

    It had been a long time since i seen your buggy. That is a beautiful buggy, Love the color. I installed a aluminum gas tank in mine. No more rust.

      +BobElgin I considered an aluminum tank, but I went cheap.. Hope I don't pay for it later...

      Nah your taking the right steps. My cousin sealed his tank and had no problems...

    lovely buggy, but that is a lot of work to get the nose off. As always looking forward to seeing it complete.

    Hi just came across your video and I know it dates back 8 years but my question is would it have been possible to install a bladder type of gas tank that may have been a bit larger and easier to install ? Thx and good work by the way.

      I don’t know if a bladder tank would work. Sorry.

    Having the fuel tank slanted like that, is your fuel pick up/outlet higher than the bottom of the tank resulting in a bunch of gas not getting sucked out? I feel like I'm loosing out on 2-3+ gallons on mine and have been wondering what to do about it.

      The design is meant to copy an original tank placement in a beetle I believe. My outlet is very low at this point. I can look in the tank, and see it clearly. I would say at most, there is a quart or so of gas left if I run out.

    Excellent video and great work. 2 questions...is that a 61-67 fuel tank and did you mig or tig for the welds?

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. The chassis is a 68, so that's likely what I ordered. Any welding was done with a MIG.

      @@JoDaddysGarage appreciate the response. I was hoping you'd say Mig weld as tig is a whole different ball game. Picked up a '67 tank last night and now time to modify!

    Very helpful video. Who makes that nice looking filler lid and where did you buy it? I need for are dune buggy.

      Thanks. The filler lid was an aftermarket piece for a Dodge truck I think. I know it was for a truck.

      Not a Manx. It's a Balboa Lido or El Lobo

    you would think they would make the tanks to fit lol.... see you on the next one.

      The88katana600 That would be better. I guess when they built these in the late 60's and early 70's they used what they had on hand.

    How did you get the 5 bolt pattern wheels on there? did you use the spacer adapters?

    I need to replce my battery in mine.........any ideas how to do it??......seems awful tight to get it out............do you have a video for that?

  • @mbyrd6580

    Although I am watching your video for the first time I'm asking myself if you took the time to tack weld the gas neck in and the patch you put on there as well did why didn't you just weld the gas neck in place ? Seems like an awful lot of unnecessary stuff on your brand new gas tank.

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I guess I was considering the idea that some day I may have to replace the tank again, and I would need that filler neck. Probably never happen though.
