Just started reloading about a month ago. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge as I have learned a lot from watching you. Haven't blown my face off yet! Thanks bud!
Welcome to the club it can get addicting. Check out fortunecookie45lc if you haven't already he uses a totally different style of videos but that man has all kinds of knowledge as well
@John Beige I’ve come a long way since that comment ha, currently loading 300 wby mag and 22-250. Definitely glad I was able to stock components when I did
Best reloading videos out there. I can't tell you how much time this saves me, I know different rifles are gonna shoot different results, but these give me a starting point. Well laid out video, as they all are, and the information content is second to none. Plus, it helps keep me from blowing my face off!! Thanks for doing this and keep up the good work!
Best video I’ve seen on any powder, well done Sir. I been looking at Shooters World Match Rifle for 7.62x51 / .308 I’m loading 147 grain M80 Ball ammo , While I have a decent amount of other suitable powders, at $150.00 for 8 LBS it should prove to be very economical. Thanks for taking your valuable time to produce this video. I will subscribe to your channel . Two thumbs up !
Lovex powder = Shooters World. It's been in Europe for a very long time (Lovex). Sold in the U.S. as Shooters World. Looking forward to your load workups.
So glad I came across your channel...bought 2 powders RL-15 and N140 thinking that would get to 2725 or so with a 77.....and then I saw your series and realized I had some of that SW Match rifle. You and it saved the day.....my barrel is slower then yours but I got to 2650 @25.0......and it grouped less than a MOA
I have been using SW powders for rifles and handguns for about 5 years. I have been very pleased with the price and performance. I especially like the Clean Shot for my pistols and SW4350 for my 7 Rem Mag.
Im glad to see the 62gr BTHP back. Last night i tested loads with CFE223, 27.7 gr Max 5.56 Load, at 2.25 inch COAL. I tested three different COAL in my AR. I got some groups hovering around three-quarter MOA with a very acceptable velocity spread
I haven't taken the leap yet of buying the necessary equipment to reload, but I have been watching most of your videos. For research purposes and I have to say your channel is definitely the best for useful information out there. Keep up the great work and I hope to see more 6.5 creedmoor videos soon.
I just started reloading for my 308 gas gun with Precision and 175smk and it produced the best results I’ve been able to shoot so far with 900 rounds down my Bartlein barrel
Nice info. I've got an 8# jug of Precision on the way. I've had good luck with it. It's an extruded powder. According to Ken Johnson (SW ballistician) Precision is slightly slower than Varget, all SW data is tested with a 24" barrel except 5.56, which is tested with a 20" barrel, and SW load data should be getting a big update any day now.
Yes the 62 gr bthp was a special run just for midsouth,,, I talked to hornady and they said they would soon be releasing that bullet to their general line of bullets.
Gary... aside from the pandemic and panic buying, I still haven't seen the 62bthp from hornady anywhere other than midsouth (and of course they been out for past 3 months). Have you seen anybody else carrying it? I have shot sub moa with these (H335...5.56 load) at 250yds with 16" carbine 9" twist. They are great bullets.
I just used this powder in 6.5 Grendel today with the 120gr Gold Dot and had to stop shooting... I stayed a half grain under max (32.2gr per their load data) and started with 30gr in a 20 inch barrel AR15... My starting charge gave me 2614fps and the next charge up was .4gr and I was at 2648... Zero signs of pressure with 2 more charges to go but didn't shoot them because I know I have to be over pressure because those velocities are freakin insane... I'm assuming my scale malfunctioned and I ended up with way more powder but it was spot on with everything I shot today... I'm gonna pull the bullets tmro and double check things but when I dropped my check weights on the scale it was reading fine and even grabbed some factory ammo to check my chronograph and it was fine so I'm kind of dumb founded with those velocities...
Starting to really like shooter world powder I've been using match rifle in my 308 bolt gun paired with 165 bthp game kings and have shot awesome groups ...keep it up
One more thing with the Wilson defense 300HAM'R you might explore doing subsonic loads with this cartridge using the lighter bullets and Trail Boss powder. I also remember seeing one that you did on the 300 Blackout using a light bullet and things like Cream of Wheat and cotton to try and get a subsonic load with a light bullet again look at Trail Boss powder it is designed specifically for this because of the powder design it takes up a lot of space with a very light load.
the twist rate of the 300 ham is 1:15, (300 blk 1:8or7) doubt you'll ever get anything to stabilize out of it going subsonic. simply not made to do subs. if they would make the 300 ham in a 1:8 twist i'd buy a barrel today.
shooters world match powder was the first accurate 2520 made out of the czech republic. then accurate changed suppliers for the 2520 to the Belgin republic. then the Belgin supplier for accurate had a big fire at their plant and went down for many years and 2520 was unavailable to the reloader until recently and from the bottle it is now made in the USA. so shooters world is the same as 2520 only renamed to match rifle or 073-06 from what i have been told.
I’ve heard great things about Shooters World match rifle. A lot of guys are switching over from Varget and H4350 to the Shooters World doppelgänger. Looks like it’s worth exploring because Varget and H4350 are impossible to find every once in a while
Great video! Id really like to see other loads worked up with their powders, like loads for 6.5 grendel and creedmoor. There's not a lot of load data for their powders out here. Keep up the awesome videos.
You mentioned the Nosler BT varmints in 60 gr. I got a box of 250 of the 55 gr. and can't get them to shoot in any load so far in the Remington 700. The VMAXs and even the Hornady 55 gr FMJBT shot fine and just over an in. groups at 200 yards. Don't know why. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the bullets. Weight about 15 of them and the weights of some were on the heavy side by 3-4 grains so maybe that's the problem, but the FMJBT were about the same way except underweight. Never weighed any of the VMAX. Kinda disappointing going through brass prep for accuracy when bullet weights vary like I just saw with those Noslers.
Back in January, you posted a vid with Hornady 140 BTHP Match and Reloader 26 and Reloader 17. You pierced the remington primers, but I'd be interested in seeing you revisit the RL26 with CCI primers! I'm curious to see what velocities you can get with the 26 and tougher primers
Thank you for reviewing shooters world powders. I’ve been curious about them. I do wish your videos weren’t so long though. It’s tough to sit through 30-60 minutes of talking to try an get the few nuggets of information that are really important and broadly applicable to my reloading practice. Just my opinion.
older video but Johnny if you ever come across a good deal on the Hornady 62 FMJ give them a try, they've been a great performer for the money and may work well for you. Probably a lot beter than SS109 and the boost in long range ballistics vs the 55 FMJs, especially in high winds is nice.
I have been shooting Monster Match bullets form midsouthshooting supply, lehigh solid match 150's, and some hornady and speer plinking bullets as well. Oh and nosler rdf 175's. The MM lehigh and rdf's all shot well. As for charge weight, you'd have to look up their data. I don't remember it and I'd hate to give out incorrect information. @@monkeymangonewild
I am surprised by the performance of the 60 grain Nosler ballistic tip, it is my favorite AR bullet, in in my rifle it tends to shoot better the harder I push it. Ground hogs coyotes and even deer with croppe damage permits, terminal performance is great it does everything I do with a 223 well
Your shooting and reloading skills are excellent. I think it is time to try a cartridge that will complement your skills. Please try something in the 6mmar/243lbc. I haven't tried one yet. I just would like to see something put down consistent good group sizes. Thank you for all you do.
When it comes the 5.56mm round and the AR15, I am of the opinion that 8208 rules the roost. With that being said, 2520 used to be my favorite powder until I tried 8208.
A video idea for you would be take an easy caliber like 308w, but do some loads with standard bullets and powders. I think you'll be shocked the accuracy within 300yds one can coax out of flat based SP and RN bullets. Probably be the cheapest video you'll ever run. It'd also be interesting to watch you run some Duplex loads sometime if you get really brave, or show how loads change with a major swap in primers.
Sorry went back and saw 41 primers so that answered my question also with the 62 BTHP if you try sitting the bullet down to 2.245 at 26 gr of Match it really starts to shine and 24.5 with 69 SMK at the same C.O.L
I got a couple pound of SW4350 to compare with H4350 Unicorn and what I found in testing in 6.5 Creedmoor was that SW4350 ES/SD was all over the place but, that most of the loads would freakin group WTF. I haven't gotten to the Shooters World Precision (VARGET) yet.
You might double check but SW4350 is NOT similar to the other 3 4350 offerings. They advertise that Long Rifle powder is much closer to the 4350 offerings.
Shooters World powder is just rebranded Czech powder Lovex from Explosia Vsetin (czech town). Actually, they are sole supplier of powder for Sellier Bellot. Not bad powder for pistol or general rifle usage like competition or hunting, but precision rifle shooters prefer Vihtavouri even here in Czech rep and Slovakia. After all, Finnish rifle, finnish bullet and finnish powder - best combo.
I use the heck out of their Clean Shot pistol powder in several calibers. Powder seems to be regional here and Clean Shot is about the only one available to us here. Wish they would carry some of the rifle powders too, Stuff meters like salt and is accurate in everything I've shot it in.
@@Oculi_tui_vitare Yep, I don't know why they are ashamed of their number designations, but if you look on the front of the label in tiny little letters it will say DO 32 on the type that says Cleanshot. I love it too. load a ton of it in .380 and .45ACP. The Cleanshot type is the only one of these powders I've ever seen where I live, but they make types for about all reloading needs.
@@ditchdigger93 these code names define the type of gunpowder e.g. prefix D mean double base powder (mostly ball powder), S single base (mostly extruded). Bigger number - slower burning. Easy to find best powder to use I have the impression that not all powders have their counterparts like d073.5 common use in 5,56x45 or S071 very good in 6,5x55 SE
I would like to see H4895 with some lighter bullets... like 50 or 53gr bullets. I noticed you haven’t had great luck with that powder but I think it’s a pretty good powder. I just haven’t found a good load out of my bolt action 223.
Run it with some of the 75 gr. Speer Gold Dots in 5.56x45mm (maybe .224 Valkyrie as well) if you ever get them in. Sounds like it could make a good all purpose load.
I have a question about reloading for the .223. I have an adjustable gas block on an AR that is set for some of my cheaper over the counter ammo. Will this affect anything when working up loads on this gun?
I can vouch for AR Plus and Tactical Rifle in 308 and 223 respectively. Both are easy shooting powders with good accuracy and among the most inexpensive around.
I'm curious as to how often you give your barrel a good cleaning and whethr you also reshoot the same loads - the magnetospeed . That strapped to the barrel will change harmonics significantly. A great group with it might end up a terrible load without it and vice versa. The strap on Chrono is basically only good to find your optimum charge weight range. I prefer a shoot through or lab radar as it doesn't effect barrel harmonics.
I use magneto speed to find quality SD. Generally I have found if my speeds are consistent I can adjust the rest. If its a harmonics issue worse comes to worse I'll use a tuner.
It depends on your powder measure. If it really matters you should be individually massing out the loads. Then run the std dev math on your charge weights and make your load/no load decision based on that.
All my loads are individually weighted. I like powders like CFE223 and Acc 2230. I can set the measure, weigh the charge and in the case it goes. No trickling required. 1 in 10 or 15 charges might be off by .1, then back in the measure it goes. They meter that good in my measure. 4198 is going to vary .4-.5g per throw of the measure. So its more of a time saving and convenience with the spherical powders.
Great video, have you ever thought about stretching your loads out to 3-500 yards? That seems to add another level to verifying good loads. Also cause I dont want to find the other video... what did you think of the article AMP wrote about salt bath annealing?
I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the hard work you put into them. I was wondering if the chronograph has any effect on accuracy or barrel harmonics.
The long rifle I worked up a load for 6.5 CM cloverleaf @ 100 yds but more recoil to me than superformance the match rifle is good for light bullets in .243 win I had to slow them down for 55gr Sierra BK & 60 gr varminter fbhp I had them hummin' @ 4029fps 1 1/2" groups @ 440yds outta my Ruger predator I primarily use for .223rem 35gr-77gr all sub moa and better accuracy and velocities than any powder I have used I like loading up 62gr nosler fbhp for coyote hunting. But I found my best loads 1/10 increments 1/10 makes all the difference my load for 62gr Hornady bthp is 26.8 gr SWMR fed ar match primers (all 62gr loads) and 26.9gr SWMR for 60gr v-max like I was saying that 1/10 makes all the difference in the world for .25 MOA groups outta 20" Wilson combat super sniper barrel I'm getting 2857 fps for 77gr SMK I finally worked up some loads using precision rifle for. ..243win 87 Hornady varmint bthp. All I buy is SWMR. Good video safe shootin'
Hey Johnny, love your channel. Have you done any loads for the 223/5.56 with wc844 millitary pull down powder? I am finding it difficult to locate load data for it other then people claiming it has a similar burn rate to h335, but they Also say that it swings hard from slow to hot burn rates depending upon the lot in which you got.
Would like to know if you have any plans to do videos on the new Wilson defense 300 hamr. If you go on their website they have load data brass and barrels to build your own upper or for a little over $2000 you can buy a complete rifle. Barrels run between $273 I believe and $327 dollars.
I thought you get good results with 2520.... so what powder should I look for to get good ES with 69gr smk and 77gr smk? Along with tight groups. Im developing for my new 3gun 18in WOA barrel. I am useing rem 7.5 primers
Any chance you could try out some lead 223 bullets? Maybe pick up where Elvis ammo left off since he isnt making videos anymore. Ive got one of his 62grn bullet molds and I just started casting with it and they seem to like imr3130 out of my 16in 1/8 twist faxon gunner barrel but it would be awesome to get your take on some of your load recipes, even if I have to send you some lol
I know you’re an experienced target shooter but are you letting the barrel cool any ? BTW MY best 69 gr load is 25 gr of H335 with fed 205 ! Thanks for the video !
Does anybody has an up to date table off powder burnrate? Apologies for using this channel Johnny. I allready asked, i am still interested how the last 4 inches off your compass barrel looks after those +1000 shots. thks
Like your channel a lot -- it's great! One thing I would ask is to revisit some of the more promising loads and attempt to really dial them in via charge weights, seating depth, etc. all in an effort to get them shooting as accurately as possible. I have yet to see any of your loads REALLY shoot well,... some show promise, but most are pretty pedestrian and not worthy of further refinement -- believe me, I'm all-too-familiar with this element of reloading,... dialing in the accuracy, quantifying its' ballistic solution, and shooting at distance would be a nice adjunct to your channel,... just a thought.
I would like to see you shoot the 69 gr with the same charge of powder you are shooting the 60 gr with I think you would get better groups and more consistent numbers
I’d say probably that chronograph and what ever at the end of your bbl is creating havoc on your groups....i hav Browning’s boss rifles and there great sweet spot finders( adjustable)... I’ve come across very expensive rifles that people an gunsmiths hav had brakes put on that made groups a mess to deal with....my guess that particular brake ( boss)browning has put on their over the counter rifles has a lot to do with bbl length, bbl taper... and brake weight and being adjustable.... also the action bedding to go along with it... just the bedding alone I can confirm it because my .270 boss bedding I’ve took it out and did steel bedding... mistake!...it threw the adjustment off for that particular head weight altogether.... luckily I had enough adjustable movement to compensate the bedding.... so I would not doubt the harmonics with anything additional on the end of a bbl would affect groups.... heavy bbl or not.... have any doubt ?.... try recreating your best load and recreate that same group size....
You can do the samething with a flash hider and peel washers. I don't do it anymore but it works. I got tired of cleaning the darn thing so my new barrel doesn't have one
I was sad to see the performance on the Nosler 60gr Ballistic Tip as I picked up 250 of them in lue of my normal 60gr V-Max as I liked the boat tail aspect as a new reloader. :-(
Tommy J I’ve had excellent accuracy with the Nosler 60 gr Ballistic Tips in my 223 bolt gun. Haven’t really tested them yet though out of an AR except for shooting some that were loaded for the bolt gun after I had to FL resize that batch of cases.
@@Jiminico Thanks! I had good success with the V-Max and like the weight, but got a good deal on a 250 piece box of the Nosler so I, like Johnny, felt it would give me similar results. We will see. This was the first video I have seen with them.
The 60gr Nosler BT is my favorite varmint bullet for my AR, but in my gun it likes a heavy crimp and heavy powder charge, I am pushing with TAC from LC brass using CCI mill spec primers.

I tried match rifle powder yesterday and had similar results. 25.8gr with 77smk seemed to be the sweet spot. 1-7 20" WOA.

Those empty bottles hold 250 rds of 9mm...just saying. I love this stuff.
Excited for this video!
Would your SD and possibly horizontal stringing be better with crimp? Great videos by the way,. I watch a lot of them.
Sorry went back and saw 41 primers so that answered my question also with the 62 BTHP if you try sitting the bullet down to 2.245 at 26 gr of Match it really starts to shine and 24.5 with 69 SMK at the same C.O.L
Good work Johnny, keep up the good work cuz!
+1 with showing what the SW powders can do!
Jason Potter H4350 is one of the only powders where my low SD/ES loads are also Sub .75 MOA
You might double check but SW4350 is NOT similar to the other 3 4350 offerings. They advertise that Long Rifle powder is much closer to the 4350 offerings.
Long rifle is right in the middle between Reloader 15 and Reloaders 16!
@@ditchdigger93 clean shot is it lovex d032 ? Most common used powder by reloaders in my region in 9x19 just cheap and efficient.
I always shoot the 77smk OTM! So much satisfaction.
Thanks Johnny!
Run it with some of the 75 gr. Speer Gold Dots in 5.56x45mm (maybe .224 Valkyrie as well) if you ever get them in. Sounds like it could make a good all purpose load.
Ive had really good luck with 62gr varmageddon in my tikka 1:8 and AR WOA barrel 1:7
Would the tactical rifle powder be used for the shorter barreled ARs or what would it be geared towards?
That is some good stuff. I think IMI uses it in there 5.56 77gr.
I have a question about reloading for the .223. I have an adjustable gas block on an AR that is set for some of my cheaper over the counter ammo. Will this affect anything when working up loads on this gun?
Thanks for another great video... I have watched most of your videos
I can vouch for AR Plus and Tactical Rifle in 308 and 223 respectively. Both are easy shooting powders with good accuracy and among the most inexpensive around.
What happened to your other channel? Sorry if you have answered this but was looking forward to checking in this year and see the videos are gone...
Good stuff man!
I load 24.5 with both 68 & 75 Hornady bthp's. Stuff is great powder.
I might have to give that a try. I like IMR4198 (actually bought some today) with the 40g vmax but the metering sucks.
Getting Good accuracy from 25Gr Match Rifle behind a 69 SNK in my 18" 1:7 PSA Barrel, out to 300 yds
I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the hard work you put into them. I was wondering if the chronograph has any effect on accuracy or barrel harmonics.
He has a whole series on that.
Check out his play list 👍
I know a few highpower shooters that used to use wc844, there's probably someone on the cmp forum with data
Would like to know if you have any plans to do videos on the new Wilson defense 300 hamr.
If you go on their website they have load data brass and barrels to build your own upper or for a little over $2000 you can buy a complete rifle. Barrels run between $273 I believe and $327 dollars.
Thanks for doing this video
Have you loaded any of the 40gr VMax at 2.200? Looks like at 2.250 you're losing a lot of bearing surface with the neck.
hasta cuantas veces se puede recargar un cartucho???...
Thank you so much
alway enjoying your videos
Thanks again 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Use it in 224 Valkyrie ??
Old video I know, but I'm barely finding this. Is match rifle pretty temp stable or is it very sensitive?
what is the brand of the scale you are using?
Why wont you use a match barrel bolt gun instead?
I thought you get good results with 2520.... so what powder should I look for to get good ES with 69gr smk and 77gr smk? Along with tight groups. Im developing for my new 3gun 18in WOA barrel. I am useing rem 7.5 primers
SW precision or varget
anybody know what little scale he's using to weigh on??? he has said it in previous videos and i need a good cheap powder scale
Hey Johnny, have you ever tried VV-N133 in 223? Your thoughts?
Any chance you could try out some lead 223 bullets? Maybe pick up where Elvis ammo left off since he isnt making videos anymore. Ive got one of his 62grn bullet molds and I just started casting with it and they seem to like imr3130 out of my 16in 1/8 twist faxon gunner barrel but it would be awesome to get your take on some of your load recipes, even if I have to send you some lol
Lead Bullet Junkie i wanna see someone pick up on the zinc bullets too
I know you’re an experienced target shooter but are you letting the barrel cool any ?
FWIW I'd start at near max and do .3 decrease in powder. The cr@p on your barrel will mess you up too.
Wish you would comment on how clean the powder burns. I.E. is the gun dirty?
Lovex powder / Explosia, Czech Republic Thought you might want to know where its coming from.Whats the priceing like ?
New data has 224 Valkyrie for Match, Precision and Long Rifle.
Boy, that sure looks like the power in MK262.......
Nathan Minich
I think you might be right. A lot of us think the a2520 could be the mk262 powder. And his speeds are comparable with his other work.
