Top Ten Crossy Road Characters - A Retrospective Before The Launch Of Crossy Road+ On Apple Arcade

- Just as I unlocked all 294 characters in Crossy Road on Apple TV, Hipster Whale decided to launch Crossy Road+ (Plus) on Apple Arcade. It's set to launch on October 8, 2021.
I had been planning to launch a list of the Top Ten Crossy Road characters, so now seems like the perfect time to launch this video.

The Dragon, Ultra Fighter, Specimen, Lucky Cat, and Epoch are some of my favorite characters
The Lucky Cat has a leg missing. I didn't even notice that at first. Apparently, that's the favorite characters of one of the developers (Matt Hall).
Alice , Sad Plant and Specimen 115 are my favourites 😊

Specimen 115 is quick and I like the way Alice goes big & small like she should 😅
Daruma doll reminds me of mighty beanz and the way it moves is pretty satisfying, gonna have to be my number 1
With the recent update, now your favorites matter. You can have up to 12 favorites. I have a team of nine, but not sure what the last three should be.🤔
I am pretty sure every characters have same hitbox, so playing bigger characters can help you since you will be more cautious. 8:15
Well, here's an experiment. Play as the T-Rex and then play as the Tooth Brush, do you feel a difference. The toothbrush feels way more nimble to me. Although, the Tooth Brush doesn't shake the screen periodically, so that helps too. 😄
I revisited this issue. I played back some Crossy Road hits in slow motion / frame-by-frame… and it did look like the character hit box is just a tiny square in the middle… similar to the size of the Toothbrush… but enemies like the Roomba seem to have hit boxes to match their size.
It's nice to know exactly where that hit box is though. With characters like the T-Rex, it's hard to know where's the center. With the Toothbrush, the danger zone is known.

2. Jelly Bear (I like characters in this game that have a dupe mechanic and it’s your job to keep them alive and it’s funny one of them dies because it’s like, Now you are on your own. But jelly bear takes number 2 because gummies are my favorite snack.)
And for Number
1. Piñata (I just love how when it dies it explodes into candy and kids can be heard saying CANDY. Plus it’s hilarious and my uncle owns a piñata shop but he recently died due to covid. It’s a personal favorite.

I think I'll take another look at the Piñata. I don't have such fond memories of Piñatas. I was at a party once and they didn't know they had to fill this one with candy. So after hitting the Piñata for a longer than usual time, nothing happened. I still remember the cry, "No candy?!"
Although, I do remember another party with a Piñata. Two kids were hitting it well past what was necessary. 😆

My personal favorite is a two-way tie between the Tree Frog and Swamp Frog.
I always loved Frogger ever since I played Swampy's Revenge, and this is already a Frogger successor, which, incidentally, used the Swamp Frog as a test model during the early development builds.

Pro Gamer made the Top Ten. I don't play the character all the time, as it gets repetitive, but that's a funny character. 😄

@@johnbrown-jd7od That's right, she's the “Dragon Rider” and the other related one is the “Snow King”. They're spoofs of characters from Game of Thrones.

@@landermortier2245 If you're trying to unlock the Dragon Rider, you need the Snow King first. He's tough to unlock because you need tokens to unlock him. I kept playing the Daily Challenge (Pecking Order) until the Snow King was unlocked. This took many days, as I didn't watch any ads to get more tokens. You need to be in the top 10 to get tokens.
1st - 50 Tokens
2nd - 45 Tokens
3rd - 40 Tokens
4th - 35 Tokens
5th - 30 Tokens
6th - 25 Tokens
7th - 20 Tokens
8th - 15 Tokens
9th - 10 Tokens
10th - 5 Tokens
But since it seems to unlock the characters randomly, you could win first place and get only 5 tokens, because the character randomly chosen to be unlocked has 95 out of 100 tokens already. In other words, it's tough!

How's the Polar Bear over powered? 🤔
There's a massive coin boost for completing the cleanup quests. But after that, isn't it just a normal character? I think over time, the Cheerleader would get more coins.
@@PhoticsTV oh I don’t have the cheerleader character. I always thought the polar bear earned you the most coins..? Oh and yes I only mean overpowered by coins, not anything else. But yeah, I just love coin boosts way too much that it’s my favorite lmao
How do you get all the secret characters for the prince of all cosmos? I’ve got the king of all cosmos, but what else and how do you get them?

Although, it's the same story with all those shooting characters. It would be a lot more fun if they could actually destroy the obstacles.

Chicken for sure
The Chicken is basically the star of the game. It's even on the app icon. The problem with the Chicken is that there are so many different versions. So, then which one is the best? Space Chicken? Hipster Chicken? Pac-Chicken?
But if you mean “Chicken” as in all versions, where it's still just the basic chicken in different costumes, that is tough to beat. 😄
I would have put the penguin and the beaver in higher lists for varying the playability.
Wow, I forgot about Bashy Beaver. I don't like those two gaming modes though. It feels too detached from the main game.
Perhaps Slippy Penguin and Bashy Beaver should be part of the Pecking Order. I might enjoy those two gaming modes more if they showed up randomly in the competition.
@@PhoticsTV I like they vary the gameplay so it isn't too repetitive.
As a Korean person, I can understand rest of voice lines which announcer says in pro gamer character.
ex)If you go straight forward too fast and the game is over, the announcer will say 'Yup- He crossed the road too fast. That's too bad!'.
I tried Korean-to-English again with Apple's translate app. It didn't seem to work right. 😄

I was thinking the Android Robot could be a good April Fools Day character on Apple devices. 😄

The map of the toothbrush is easier
That's where I got my best score. No rivers means no logs or lily pads. With the update, the Toothbrush is now one of my top 12 favorites.

I'm missing some characters… I think four… Psy, Thanxalotl, Android, and the mouse costume chicken.
There are two other characters relating to the Flea and Toothbrush, Onigiri and Candy Corn.
Those are tiny characters.

@@jamesclinton6257 I think by volume, the Flea is smaller than the toothbrush. But on ground coverage, the toothbrush takes up less space. There's a comparison in the video.

Psy is a different mode though, no? I have a higher score with Ad Fighter than the Tooth Brush, but that score is in a different category.

…and I got scores of… 13, 14, 13, 17, 14.
That's pretty normal, to kinda below average. The Cheerleader is much better at farming coins.

Top 5 Worst Crossy Road Characters
There are lots of characters that I simply don't play. I especially don't like these three…
• Too Much Candy
• Gingerbread Man
• Merlady
I thought about making a video about that, but it seemed too negative. HA HA! 😄
@@PhoticsTV why don't you like those I like all of them a lot I can see it's your opinion but might explaining why you don't like them?
@@paulsh2071 I don't like the “Too Much Candy” character because his random body movements are distracting. He's in pain. Those noises are annoying. Even if he was foolish enough to overeat, his parents should seek medical attention, not let him run in traffic.
It's even worse with the Gingerbread Man, who sounds quite sinister. I don't relate to a mischievous cookie. Even in general, I don't like anthropomorphized gingerbread cookies. I like Kit Kats, Toffifee, or even Mallomars. Cookies are meant to be eaten, not disrupt the flow of traffic.
As for the Merlady, I don't like her sounds either, but it's even worse than that with her. She's being rude to potential suiters, turning them into frogs - why? She should settle down with a nice Merman and make lots of Merpeople. 😄
