Diana Ross Interview GMA 1999: "I felt 'violated' by 'invasive' Airport Security pat down"

- Diana Ross responds to being detained by police for allegedly assaulting a female airport security officer at London's Heathrow Airport after Diana felt the female security guard/officer went way overboard by doing an overly invasive pat down/body check of Diana and essentially assaulting her . Diana says the guard basically "touched my private parts" which made her very angry. Diana says she felt completely violated. Watch the video for more of this story. This incident took place on September 22, 1999.

I worked for the airlines for years, and I know the importance of stringent security measures, but I'm glad Diana Ross brought attention to this because IMO, the airport authorities have been out of control (mad with power) for far too long. I mean let's be real ... like what the hell did these people think Diana effing Ross was going to do?

Poor thing. She was suffering so, and you could plainly see it.
This was around the time she was breaking up with Arne too. That breakup caused her to turn to alcohol.
That break up contributed to her breakdown and the cancellation of her Supremes tour was the straw that broke the camel's back. A difficult time for her.

We’re all human. Sometimes our emotions may get the best of us. She lived a lot of life up to that point- things happen. But the airport definitely sucked.
2 years later was 9 - 11 .
As she said, "It is surprising that a woman can be searched in this manner out in public...this physical, hands-on is a lot".
I'd like to think that security searches have been modified so that they aren't this invasive anymore.

You can tell that she was really affected by this and she handled herself really well during this interview. The thing that she did towards the security guard was not bad at all, but she was frustrated by how they behaved towards her. I can fully understand Diana´s opinion about this situation.

I felt THEN and I feel NOW, Ms. Ross was SO CORRECT to complain and to be vocal about all this. She felt violated. She deserved the right to speak out

Totally sympathize with you Diana! London and Amsterdam airports were the most invasive and rude in handling foregin women . I experienced the same in London in December 1999.

Then she tried to salvage herself with a Supremes reunion tour to fix the negative press but only to screw that up too when cutting out original Supreme Mary Wilson from the tour. Fans weren't having any of her BS and that tour collapsed and she started drinking.

I work for one of the busiest airports in the world and everybody has to go through this. What she's describing is exactly what a pat down is. She complained about the same thing years later on Twitter at the New Orleans airport. She thinks the rules don't apply to her.
