- Let's consider four different hard hats: two carbon fiber, one resin and one plastic. We'll weigh each one and briefly discuss and compare. This is not an in-depth technical review. If you have any questions just ask in the comments.
Your video was great, definitely agree the hinged suspension sucks. I bought the carbon feather one and it is by far the best if you have to wear it all day. I've had all the other ones as well from working as a welder and commercial construction.
I had originally ordered a Cerious Composites hard hat but waited many months before canceling. Yeah, no complaints about my Carbon Feather hat. Sits nice and low, doesn't fall off, lightweight and comfortable. I don't beat it up too much but it has taken some hits and drops - still looks good.
The last one was like the original carbon fiber hardhat. It was great. Still have it as a spare.
I just bought a new Skullgard last week(1-31-24) to replace my 5-6 year old Skullgard. It has the same suspension my older one did. It doesn’t have the pivoting style.I have been tempted to get the Wavecell T2+Pro for those jobs that are going towards the Type 2 hard hats.
I could be mistaken about the newer Skullgard suspension. Probably it doesn't pivot in the back like the Lyft but the ratchet hangs down way low. Low relative to the previous style of Skullgard. My bad. Regardless, I hate the low ratchet. It might help some with keeping their hat on when bending over, but it doesn't fit my head very well. The light weight and low wearing height of the blue carbon fiber hat means it stays on better, even though the ratchet doesn't hang down low.
@@boomupengineering I hear ya, when you are wearing it most of the day, it needs to be comfortable
I didn't know you can get suspension adapters, please tell me more about those metal clips!
Those metal clips are only available as part of the Skullgard suspension shown.
Hey boss. The Lift hard hat. I’ve seen with the stick suspension they sit high on the head. Did the MSA suspension make the hard hat sit a little lower?
I know for me the Lyft w/old skullgard suspension sits reasonably low. The Lyft has a leather pad at the top of the suspension which would make it ride higher than if you remove it. I found the pad to be uncomfortable. I wish MSA still made the old-style suspension as I do not like the new version. Now the blue carbon fiber hardhat sits very low. Carbon Feather even mentions their hats being designed to sit low to reduce chances of falling off.
How does it hold up after a year?
@DanRolex I'm not too abusive to my hardhats. They all are holding up fine. I've been wearing the Carbon Feather exclusively for a couple years or more.
Hey sorry to randomly chime in, but what brand was that older fiber metal hardhat?
Skullgard is MSA. Fiber metal.
Is the carbon feather blue/black or blue/blue color? Looking to get that one
I went all blue. I think someone recommended that since a blue/black mix would look pretty much black. I think that's why I went all blue.
What is fiber-metal?
Thanks man simple and un fricking bias
The carbon feather is the way to go
I agree. Better headgear than other carbon fiber hardhats and it is actually lighter than plastic. Plus I think the shell is made in Arkansas?
Hey man where did you get that blue hard hat ? 🔥

hiii. i just got a lift resin hard hat, but i do find their suspension a bit unconfortable. How did you change it on yours?
An old Skullgard suspension with the metal tabs installs OK. But they no longer make them. The flip style Skullgard suspension may fit? You need one with the metal tabs that connect to the studs mounted to the hard hat shell.
Oh you know what, the newer MSA Skullgard suspensions with metal tabs should fit. I just like the older ones better. Maybe 4 years ago I bought a couple replacement suspensions but they no longer make the old style.
@@schwartztekllc Thanks i will look for option online!
@kamiloprieto7024 Just be sure to look at the suspensions for the Fibre-metal Skullgard MSA hard hats. This hard hat has metal studs for the metal suspension clips. The Lift also has metal studs for their suspension clips. Of course, anything you change is at your own risk!
Look the last one isn't a tape but the actual carbon fiber.
Yeah, after I looked at it more, I realized the whole inside if the hardhat is the same. Covered with the black cloth - not sealed.
Did you mention thata not the original suspension in the lift hat? Wich the original is not great just leather
I have the full carbon lift hard hat with that suspension and I love it
Once I removed that disk of leather at the top of the Lift's suspension...it was OK for me. I just don't like suspensions that pivot in the back. The newer Skullguard is like that too.
Did the skullgard suspension you put in the lift hard hat allow the hard hat to sit lower on your head?
@Mr. Plainview I know it sits at a decent height - reasonably low.. The dark blue carbon fiber hard hat sits lower than any of them. Unfortunately the old Skulgaurd suspension is no longer available. The swing version might work.
looks like chamber pot
No, don't do that in your hard hat!
@@boomupengineeringobviously not, you do that in the sleazy slacking off guy's hat! 😂
