I love everything about this movie. The horror is so real. The emotional connection between the women isn’t corny. It’s one of my all time faves.

What really made this movie great was the claustrophobia aspect of it.
The monsters were scary, but the scene when the blonde woman got stuck made me feel more uncomfortable than anything else in a movie.
That was the scariest part of movie..i hate narrow caves

One of the best horror films of the last 15 years. When you consider the people who have died while exploring caves in the past decade, the claustrophobic scenario of this film alone is terrifying. Add to it the cave creatures, and you have a virtually inescapable sense of doom. David Julyan's soundtrack is a masterpiece of tension, suspense, and human emotion, which greatly enhances the film's feeling of terror and hopelessness.

for me, the creatures made it less scary because 1) it means there is a way out which takes away the claustrophobic horrors I experienced in the beginning 2) you could build weapons and eat them which means you would not die of starvation which, again, takes away a main fear of mine 3) IF you die, at least it's a very quick death (even serving another one for food), which takes away the HORRORS of having to die entrapped in a place where you can't get out of, the psychologcal horrors you have to experience and seeing your life just fading away, with way too much time to think about everything having a panic attack after the other. So yeah, I hardly couldn't go on watching when the got trapped in the cave after Sarah got stuck due to my claustrophobia, but as soon as the creatures appeared, I even found it a bit comical and it was easy for me to watch.

I won't watch the Descent 2 either. I just don't want to experience that fear ever again.

Rystor That's the thing, you are mentally blocking the emotion of fear. Don't expect going into a movie thinking ""this won't scare me" and actually feeling scared at some point. Your mind will be too busy challenging fear to focus on the terrifying aspects of the movie.
OkamiXCeleste that's a very good point, but I swear I do try when I watch films! I submerse myself in the story and jump at the jump scares, but nothing really freaks me out. I rememebr the first and last time I was scared in a horror movie was in I Am Legend, when he enters the building and the zombies where standing in the corner in silence. I was not expecting that at all! :)
To be fair. I have only really been haunted by a scary movie once after adulthood. In childhood anything scary was enough to keep me awake, even fright night :p But there was this particular film, not so popular, about some guy with multiple layered blue eyes... I don't remember the plot, but the image haunted me for 4 days .... even during daylight.
This was a good Falmer movie.

This movie has so many great moments. The best are the worst, emotionally. We can rally behind and admire Juno's unyielding fight to protect the very women she endangers. And therefore understand her epic mistake in her solitary fight for survival, even if we can't do so with her lack of action afterwards.

They didn't realize that it was unexplored until Juno admitted it after the cave in, were she admitted she took them into an unexplored cave so they could get to name it.

I just finished watching The Descent. It was SO suspenseful and claustrophobic. Plus, creature features are my favorite type of horror movies. I highly recommend it. 10/10

Still to this day one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. 10/10. Just perfect. One of the greatest horror movies of all time. If anyone who hasn't seen it yet that's reading this, if you're a horror fan, watch it. And if you don't feel it's at least a good film, than this style just isn't for you.

Brilliant, still underrated in my opinion - the bleak ending version is the best too. Meaning the sequel should never exist.

It does almost everything right and i've never seen a movie that has such an uncomfortble claustraphobic feel to it. The movie is so close to perfection.

@@virgie4715 yep, me too. Something about having to escape these places gets me everytime. I don't get jump scared usually, but that sinking feeling in my gut when you're trapped with something else, that scares me.

Too bad the horror of the crawlers aren't fully utilized. I was expecting more of their brutal and gruesome act. But the fear within the dark and claustrophobia are intriguing. The descent is probably the more descent horror film i watched.
For me the crawlers were gilt upon the lily. I was so distressed by the idea of being wedged in those tunnels, deep in the earth, countless tons above, in dark, utter, absolute dark, so upset me that I had to leave the theater. (Believe it or not, prior to seeing this I honestly thought myself more of less immune to feelings of claustrophobia.)

I was 16 when I first watch it! Fantastic movie!! It gives me the chills to think that someone could literally die if they get lost in a cave if they have no previous experience, lack of equipment and food! The creatures were a good idea to make the movie even more scary.
I remember watching this when I was 9 with my older brother. That night after I slept I dreamt about the movie I ended up filling my bed with vomit didn't go school the next morning. True definition of terror this movie was.

when i was 5, my mom got this movie from netflix back when netflix used to SEND the DVDs through mail- she ended up getting the wrong movie which ended up being THIS movie. so, we watched it and i have never been the same sense. i remember i couldn’t go to the bathroom alone for like 3 months.
Just rewatched it and about to watch the 2nd one. Scary af bro. I wish they made more movies like this. The cinematography, camera angles, suspense, character development, everything is perfect. This movie is a classic. Please make a 3rd film with the same director!

This movie is one of the best original horror classics in 2000 🙌 also these actors open the gates for more British actors since 2005 to Hollywood. Shauna MC Donald is one of my fav final girls. her survival instincts made me feel like I was there with her, and in part 2

About half of the park rangers time is spent looking for people who are lost, usually the ones whom react with this type of cockiness. Normal, experienced divers usual answer : "Thank you for the concern, we'll be cautious"
Hahaha watching this trailer after so many years makes me remember when my scout troop was going into caves as a trip and before going on this trip most of us went to the SPLs house (we were all friends) and watched this. About 3/4ths were scared shitless this camping trip and two guys canceled 😂😂😂

I remember myself 15 years ago, picking this from a video club. Not reading the plot neither watching a trailer. The cover just clicked me eye. God knew the horror that was waiting for me. Since then I never watch trailers or reading of horror movies. It feels scary and amazing not knowing what to expect. And honestly I didn't expect those monsters at all!
One time I was in the car me and my family were heading to lava beds national monument, I was watching movie trailers and watched this one. When we got in the cave I couldn’t not stop thinking about this trailer. I was literally so scared, to make it worse one part of the cave was only 5 inches tall so we had to crawl. I never want to experience anything like that again.
"The Descent" is my all time FAVORITE horror movie. Scared me for sure.

if you've not seen the "Birthday Cake scene" ending for The Descent, check it out. It was cut from the American release so a sequel could be setup, but it's the best ending to a horror film I've ever seen

If anyone wants a review here it is: this is the first scary movie in a while that I actually enjoyed. It kept me engaged and interested and the thrill was amazing the jump scares were great and even p2 was good
Just watched this. Really really good movie. Not as scary to me as it is to some people but still a great movie. Sad we don't have movies like this anymore. Now it's all cheesy with no real story or jump scares that really get you. One thing is for sure. I'll never go caving ever in my life, ever.

Amazing film! Very underrated. Didn't expect this too be this good. Really like the fact the director didn't try to make heroines out of them, by somehow surviving this cave. They died gruesome deaths, that being said i honestly believe parts of the movie is based on some true events. I truly believe there are beings living in caves very similiar to these humanoids.
I just said that to my son. Who knows what's in any of these these caves.

Computer. I used to surf the net in a public internet cafe. I was bored and wanted to watch movie and I stumbled upon this masterpiece. This is yet my best horror film of all time as well the part 2. I usually recommend this movie to my friends to watch and I am happy to know that they watch it because they got the same feeling I felt the 1st time I saw it.

The game Tomb Raider from 2013 has a lot of reference for this movie.The main character of the game has a pick ax,torch,and she also has a gray tank top on.They even show the exact seen from the movie where she rises from the blood, which if you look up tomb raider the descent easter egg, and then you will be able to see them side by side.
