The only thing I would change about excavate is preventing fool's azerite from discovering kobold miner and azerite gem from discovering burrow buster, or just other excavate cards in general. That just never felt right to me to have the excavate cards "discover themselves" that way.
I find it funny that so many Hearthstone card previewers dunked on Kobold Miner. Though of course they couldn't have seen Excavate develop to what it is now. But for the record, I thought Miner would be played if Excavate was worth it, and it is.
I do recall people comparing excavate to questing a play patterns which is certainly concerning. Wouldn’t be surprising if the hearthstone team just took this “win” and kept throwing shit at it until they’ve ruined the mechanic just like how they ruined quests. They already couldn’t resist with the snek. Imagine an set where all the rewards are just on the level of day one snake
Its called "Parasitic Design" look it up - a feature or mechanic that is brought in for a single expansion, and then never used again, so a SIMILAR mechanic can introduced with next expansion with a new name. Why? To sell same cards over and over.
@@locogato3488 except these cards won't see any use in wild, just like Galacround, inspire, Joust and most of quests. Unlike say mechanics like Discover or Divine Shiled
Astalor is a huge problem with Brann. I don't understand if it's a glitch or a just something the devs did on purpose, but... The manathirst 2 and manathirst 5 effects don't trigger twice with the Bran warrior card but the manathirst 10 effect does. So you don't deal 4 damage to a target with the 2/2 or gain 10 armor with the 5/5 but you deal 28 damage at 10 mana with the 8/8. WHY?
Because the manathirst is not explicitly tied to the battlecry. If you wanted the first two to deal 4 and gain 10 respectively, they would need to say, for example, "battlecry: deal 0, add astalor.... manathirst: deal 2 instead".
I imagine that the Magnetic cards stay in core for at least another year. Would make no sense to rotate them out due to Magnetic no longer being a keyword while there are still Magnetic cards in Standard. I expect that next year, when the current Magnetic cards from the current year rotate, then they'll take them out of core. As far as Excavate goes, I think that part of the popularity of Kobold Miner is due to how incredibly few cards exist for the entire mechanic. There's literally just 2 neutrals and 2 class cards (For each class) so you basically have to run all 4 cards in order to get your 4th excavate legendary reward (Twice per game, outside of extra Drilly plays/copies and other discovered cards). With Burrow Buster being cuttable from certain decks like low curve Rogues that can get their extra Excavates from Drilly or Paladin/Shaman not needing it because they only care about 2 excavates to activate Finley so better early curve helps them.
I hope so, I want paladin to have a real archetype in standard, and magnetic was a candidate after repairbot and noble mini, and some of the lich king mini set stuff. Looking like it will remain a pile class with one and done support like earthen
Magnetic is guaranteed to stay in the Core set because they sold a Diamond Zilliax with the TITANS pre-purchase bundle so it will rotate only when TITANS rotate.
Excavate doesn’t feel that good in Wild. Maybe it is, and there are surely better deck builders than me, but it feels more laborious in Wild. Even if it wins, it doesn’t feel that great. I’d be curious as to the statistics regarding Wild.
@@terrariku2010: I play it in Death Knight, still have the deck saved, but as for now, I think I prefer playing other Death Knight decks. I have a few saved. Thanks for info.
My only complaint about Excavate is that my opponents always seem to get whatever the best possible option for the situation is, but that's just me having a luck stat of 0 rather than the mechanic being OP.
Azerite Snake - Lifesteal deal 7 (maybe more 8) damage to enemy hero. Overheal from Azerite Snake increase your maximum health. this could be cool rework.
That's not a rework, that's a straight up nerf. What Zeddy is referring to with a rework is completely changing what the card does into a cool and interesting mechanic like summoning random demons, turning your hand into random demons with stat buffs (Like the old Shadow Council spell), getting/turning cards into random Legendaries etc. Not just "Deal damage, get life" which is a boring effect compared to other rewards.
I know why we dont see too much the 2 news excavate rewards, for paladin the game end's around turn6 , the game is not long enough to see the dragon xD
Your logic with warlock legendary is super flawed. By your logic DK just resummons a knock off sylvanas, warrior is just summon two random minions, shaman is destroy your deck, rogue is just get mana cheat mage is just get a titan.
the one thing I see on the statistics is both Brann and Reno have played win rates above 60%, so they should be scaled back. I remember when Zilliax was in nearly 60% of decks and no one complained, since it seemed fair. Kobold Miner and Finley fit into that category, while most of the other highly-played cards give a significant advantage.
my only complain is that there are classes that have excavate and highlander choice, make highland cards for some excavate exclusive cards like rouge or DK
they need to buff prince again the 40 hp wasn't overpowered you're making your deck 20% weaker with draw inconsistency for 5 hp... we got cards that restore your hp to full hp
I have an idea for an Azurite Snake rework that's insane, and absolutely everyone will hate! For each time you excavated this game, destroy a card in your opponent's deck (or hand w/e is more frustrating) and both the Snake and your hero gain health equal to its cost. How's that for flashy?😂
I wouldn't mind dredge going core after rotation and Astebore to be gone...it's just boring, most slower decks run him + druid discovers it with cactus . I made it to Diamond 5 with Reno-Warrior without him - used the Dynamite-oger, even if it's tier 3 or 4 w/o Aste because it's more fun .
Oh My God!!!!! How groundbreaking. Powerful neutral cards get played more because they're available in all classes. WHO COULD HAVE POSSIBLY IMAGINED THAT????
this is wrong on every level. warrior ran excavate and it was good, not broken forever as another package. mage post nerf (sif) ran it too succesful (just not every mage was excavate). do i need to remind you of azerithe rat being core in dk for over a year? your just putting emotions over fax, scorpo was the only bad one. aight, peace out tho

makes sense
The most important part of excavate is, it feels strong, not unfair
I find it funny that so many Hearthstone card previewers dunked on Kobold Miner. Though of course they couldn't have seen Excavate develop to what it is now.

"It took OVER A YEAR for this to happen in hearthstone!" And then it's just like "Oh, Astalor is number 2 now. Okay"

That's why it got nerfed, it was ruining the game man. And this was in old Ben Brode Hearthstone years where nerfing anything was very rare.

I loved Twist just because it might revive some old keywords.
Slagmaw needs the pheonix treatment. Nerf the stats, have it go dormant when it dies, and come back whenever you excavate.
Maybe bring it down to a 2 mana 2/1. But in that case, it probably makes more sense in Death Knight.
