- Indonesian street food - In this video, I will take you on an Indonesian street food tour of Semarang to try some of the most incredible dishes like Exotic Nasi Goreng, Bakso, special fried chicken and more.
To start our Indonesian street food tour in Semarang, Indonesia, we decided to have a goat curry for breakfast.
To continue our Indonesian street food tour in Semarang, Indonesia, we went for an explosive meal. We have the most insanely delicious fried chicken and the most delicious oxtail soup with super tender meat.
Moving on with our Indonesian street food tour in Semarang, Indonesia, we went the most unique dish of the day, Kepala Manyung. It's a huge catfish head that has been smoked and cooked in an extremely spicy chilli mixture. It was to die for.
After that, we went for the most famous and loved Indonesian street food, Bakso. But this version was insane. Full of all sorts of organs, beef cuts and fatty chucks. The chef took this Bakso to the next level.
To end our Indonesian street food tour in Semarang, Indonesia, we went to eat the most exotic Nasi Goreng Babat and local classic Babat Gongso.

Grazie per aver visitato Semarang, la capitale della provincia indonesiana di Giava Centrale. I wish we had a stronger hygiene standard in Indonesia like in neighboring countries like Singapore, with an obligation for all vendors to wear gloves when handling food if you want to score a higher in their Basic Food Hygiene course in order to get their certificate. To those who like to argue that you don’t wear gloves either when cooking at home, it’s obviously different. Food vendors have to handle different things like money, equipment, and surfaces that are not necessarily clean.

Always curious with kepala manyung. Apparently you tried it first, and yes.. the whole combo with cassava leaves definitely look super delicious and would take you off from earth to another planet.😂
I also have a similar memory, back as a kid. My late grandmother sometimes would cook a big kettle of soup consisting of carrot, potato, and small sliced beef with some celery leaves for the whole family.

Nasi Goreng (“fried rice“) made with kecap manis, shrimp paste, garlic, shallots, tamarind, and chil
Sate Ayam (chicken) seasoned, skewered, and grilled chicken meat served with a sauce. Best is Madura variation
Sate Padang is a beef satay served with a thick yellow-brown sauce1
Ayam Goreng (fried/grilled chicken) isrubbed in a spice mixture made from a multitude of ingredients like garlic, shallots, turmeric, lemongrass, bay leaves, and galangal before being deep-fried. Ayam goreng Menado (north sulawesi island town) was once named as best ever fried chicken by top world chefs many years ago.
Gado-Gado = salad made with slightly boiled, blanched, or steamed vegetables served with a peanut sauce dressing and with hard-boiled eggs, potatoes, bean sprouts, tofu, tempeh (cooked fermented soybean caklet) and krupuk ( cracker made from starch or animal skin)
Soto soups made with meat and vegetables, each region with own variation
Sop buntut is a delicious and hearty oxtail soup
Rujak is a traditional Javanese fruit and vegetable salad dish y made with sliced fresh fruits and vegetables served with a spicy sugar palm dressing. Rujak tastes tangy, sweet, and spicy thanks to the dressing made from ground chilli, palm sugar, shrimp paste, and peanuts.
Rendang, a meat dish made with beef or others which is slow-cooked for several hours in coconut milk and spices until it becomes tender.
Bakso - Indonesian springier meatball made from finely ground beef mixed with a small amount of tapioca flour and salt.
Siomay fish dumplings served with a peanut sauce, a derivative of Chinese shumai
Tumpeng is a Javanese cone-shaped rice dish served with a multitude of sides on a banana-leaf
