      It's certainly a problem were there's polygamy or serial monogamy like in US. In both such cases, women are attracted to rich and successful.
      In Muslim countries a rich Saudi can have dozen of wives, while there are fewer women left for poor peasants.
      In US, while it's technically a monogamy, many women will just divorce if their mate is poor and has little potential to make it. Than they'll just throw themselves into the arms of someone from top 1% or top 10% or at least top 50% (if she is not that marketable). Or into the arms of someone who has potential to make it to the top.
      Then men from top 1% dump women all the time to get better ones. Since with money comes options. And so maybe top 75% of women are recycled among top 50% of richer and more successful men.
      So bottom 50% of men are left to compete for bottom 25% of women. And bottom 10% of men hardly stand a chance.
      So the effect with serial monogamy is the same as with polygamy. And the more unequal a country is, the more pronounced is this effect. But even in Denmark the chances for a successful marriage for the bottom 10% of men are not good. However at least the difference between bottom 50% and top 1% is much smaller than in US, so bottom 50% in Denmark stand much better chance of finding a mate there than in US where top 0.1 owns 90% of wealth.

      Romantic love and chivalry is borderline crazy. Women are almost always transactional in nature themselves and leave the doting and lunacy to the man to show their brightest feathers, or have to prove their salt to be worthy.
      The definition of love: an intense feeling of deep affection
      The definition of affection: a gentle feeling of fondness or liking.

    That is so so true. And I would not so much point to the sexualization of the media, but to the attitude towards relationships in the media. Everything is about getting a partner and it is often implied that if you do not have a partner you must be a sad loser. I do like sexy women and I like to see them, but there must be a revolution towards an appreciation of an asexual lifestyle.

    • @MegaVolcano
      @MegaVolcano 9 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      +Ernie Hudson I hear your point on teaching the appreciation of the asexual lifestyle (chosen or by circumstance), but we should also be teaching our brothers how to actually talk to girls and how to be comfortable around them. It's not like we're an endangered species competing to spread our DNA anymore. We can help each other out.

    • @erniehudson1
      @erniehudson1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +MegaVolcano Yes, that can be also a strategy, but if somebody has a less pleasing physical appearance then he will have a harder time to get closer to women no matter of how much he is a smooth-talker.
      He will feel more rejected in comparison to his friends and that in itself builds up frustration.

    • @MegaVolcano
      @MegaVolcano 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Ernie Hudson Shit dude, you haven't met my friend, Shayne. When I met him he hadn't brushed his teeth in years, was a dirty looking headbanger, and that dude to this day can talk the panties off of any woman. I took my cues from him. Be clever, keep them laughing, keep them comfortable.

    • @wolfstar675
      @wolfstar675 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Everybody asexual? That's like saying abstinence is the best thing to do. Many guys aren't comfortable around women because they have always been taught to put women above themselves on pedestal, if you could show relationships on a regular perspective way another thing would be. There is also the whole puritanism thing on relationships which leads to more confusion and frustration. Teaching a healthy view on relationships helps a lot. Other countries don't have this problems.

    • @erniehudson1
      @erniehudson1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +Enrique Godinez This problem is not unique to the United States.
      I am German and I lived as well for a long time in Britain and I have a lot of international friends.
      The problem with guys getting girls is not a specific cultural problem, but just biology.
      We are all programmed to look for attractive partners and women in general are even more picky than men, so if someone looks chubby or has not a symmetric face or is disfigured he will have the problem that his chances are reduced in every country on planet earth (except he is mega rich or there are arranged marriages) and that is a hurtful thing to learn!
      And if you are rejected by the one you fell in love with that is even more hurtful and no culture in the world will ever change that.
      And I do not mean people should live an asexual lifestyle, but the media should send out the message that you can be on your own and have a fulfilled life and there is nothing wrong with you and there is no clock clicking in the background. In almost every fucking movie the single person has to find a partner in order to be transformed into a happy human being. Bullshit!!!

    Don't take away the guns. Take away their reasons to kill. Take away their accumulated resentment. How about displaying kindness and compassion to someone who's obviously showing difficulty in socializing ? How about instead of laughing in a guy's face when he asks you out, politely say no and walk away without making him feel like a creep ? How about not bragging about how much money you have and just be grateful for it instead ?

    • @christmastiger
      @christmastiger 9 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      +ninearthify "How about instead of laughing in a guy's face when he asks you out, politely say no and walk away without making him feel like a creep ?" That doesn't sound like you're blaming them at all. Not even a little bit.
      By the way, there are millions of people who get rejected by someone every day and they handle it. Not every girl who turns these guys down is laughing in their face either, there are women who did politely refuse the shooter at one point who ended up being killed regardless. It's not the fact that they weren't polite to them, it's the fact that they were refused something they thought they deserved.
      That's the difference between people who actually become mass shooters and normal frustrated people--the former feels entitled to the perfect life and seeks vengeance they feel is justly deserved when they don't get it. Most people aren't like that, they're able to get over rejection or bullying without killing people.

  • @BossIgnostic

    This is essentially the "toxic masculinity" argument - that men feel entitled to sex with women and become violent when they don't get it. And he cherry-picks the examples of mass shooters (out of dozens) who had issues with women.
    If you want to look into someone's social life predisposing them to violence, maybe look into how many friends they have. Maybe look into how the people they usually interact with are treating them. Sure women didn't pour affection on those weird looking guys, but how do you think everyone else behaved toward them? How often do you think any of those murderers got invited to a party or just to hang out? Sexual frustration can be hell to deal with. Most people know this because it happens to most people at some point. Loneliness is a much worse monster though, and it's hard for most people to relate to it since it's not something they experience to anywhere near the degree these men did.
    Also, this is a piss poor example of assuming correlation implies causation. Women are the sex that does the selecting, filtering out the partners they don't want. The men they filter out are undesirable to them for some reason. The reasons range from simple things like height preference to serious ones like signs of mental disturbance. Gee I wonder if there might be a confounding variable somewhere in this scenario.

    No doubt about it loneliness is a trigger factor. A friend of mine recently posted that the best way she knows to stop school shootings is too encourages her child to talk to the kid at school that no one is talking to. Being a friend to a kid that may be socially awkward. Not saying that "not getting shot" should be the reason for kindness but creating a kinder environment will go a long way.

    I'm not sure it's sexual frustration as much as lack of connection. As much as we like to talk about how men are all about sex, I think it's more accurate to say that men simply value physical intimacy earlier in a relationship than women typically do (it's biological), but that ALL people really just want meaningful/valuable relationships with each other. These shooters almost always have very weak social circles. They become frustrated with their inability to connect, and it's a short step from those feelings to "finding someone to blame"... surprise surprise, they focus on the places where we all take our first (mis)steps in developing social skills -- schools.
    Perhaps we should be helping kids manage social relationships better. Schools are still very much based around the factory model -- 30 kids come in a room, get their dose of training, move onto the next room, get their next dose of training, etc. However, each kid is at a different place emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically, and so on. In a typically American high school you've got kids in the same room who are emotionally 10, physically 18 with kids who are emotionally 25, physically 15. Individualization needs to accommodate things like emotional intelligence, where kids who are "loners" (especially those who don't really want to be) can get attention that helps them figure out how to make more connections.

    • @SirJoelsuf1
      @SirJoelsuf1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +J R Yeah its definitely lack of connection. I was in the same big boat as all of those kids but I still had close friends from High School who were in my corner no matter how much sex I had and they didn't judge me at all. None of those kids had any friends at all, leaving shit they read and watch on the internet as their ONLY guiding force since their parents were so attentive. It would get to anyone.
      I feel like the fact that you can choose to be a basement dweller and not directly get penalized for it is also a contributing factor. The fact that nearly half of men over 25 are jobless and live with their parents scares the shit out of me cuz it means they are getting polluted by reading shit on the internet all day. I mean shit I was running a 10 month dry spell until yesterday and I didn't hurt a soul. Why? Cuz I got other shit to worry about. I have school, a job, hobbies that I take seriously, etc. I don't have the time to hurt people cuz I got shit to do.
      We should have like a "reverse curfew" where people are forced out of their homes for certain times of the day lol.

    • @Ddstairclimber
      @Ddstairclimber 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      you are onto something here with your post. The social skills thing is true but it goes much deeper than that. at least 4 out of those shooters, possibly all 5 were on the autism spectrum. ( a pattern maher failed to notice)They had a subtle frustrating invisible mental impairment that prevented them or made it much more difficult to do just that . socializing . You are right on your points, but someone on the spectrum doesn't understand social cues or cant talk the subtle "language of socializing" . A girl may throw signs of interest verbal or non verbal, they may not understand. They needed to have been thought social skills other people learn without anyone teaching them.

    Great point Bill! Not joking at all, if these guys could have had sex, I doubt they would have been mass shooters. Maybe the solution to spree shooters is legalizing and destigmatization of sex workers and their customers. Access to sex can't hurt and not only would have helped these men but would have also been a great way to stop the exploitation of sex workers by criminals and end another reason why people go to jail unnecessarily in this country.

      +Enrique Godinez Ehh, I'd argue that the real issue is toxic masculinity. The idea that one needs to be a "real man", to be "tough", and "macho" is deeply corrosive and psychologically poisonous. Stigmatizing a man for showing any perceived sign of weakness encourages men who feel hurt to hide their pain by lashing out violently in tragedies like these, and it's high-time we acknowledge that fact and take action to correct it by reducing the stigma associated with expressing sadness or pain, and to do that we need to STOP telling boys to "man up" and STOP saying to "grow a thicker skin", and take a long, deep look in a MIRROR and admit that all this toughness is killing us from inside, and eating away at us like a malignant tumor until all that remains is a tough, but hollow, empty shell.

      +Steve Chisnall Trouble is, women uphold Toxic Masculinity more than any man. Just read through ONE woman's magazine. Nearly all of them express intense dislike for men who have not "made it," who are sexually inexperienced, and who are socially awkward.

      Enrique Godinez
      I wouldn't say looked down on, just not dateable. It IS kinda on guys to accept that and look for chicks who are on their level of attractiveness. Any guy who has made the decision to not be at their best aesthetically and socially and still bitches about attractive women not dating him is delusional. And even still, dating is completely random and a lot of boys more and more have a big problem understanding that. That to me is the scary part.
      That's how it is with me. I date average to below average chicks (from cold approaching/online dating) because I'm not physically attractive enough to get better looking chick, at least outside of a social circle. This is why it is SO important to have a good network of friends even if they are not close. You can meet chicks who are more attractive this way. Some of healthiest and successful couples I know are completely mismatched when it comes to appearance but just because they met at a bowling league or something they were able to get together.
      It's kinda on women to at least be honest with the boys they are shooting down and to not judge them by how socially intelligent they are or how good they are at sex. But its kinda on men to realize that don't just deserve chicks for existing and to get some friends (and no this doesn't count people you interact with online).
      Both sexes have a lot to work on.

    • @christmastiger
      @christmastiger 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Joelsuf "When the vast majority of women stop demanding that any man who tries to ask them out be perfect in every aspect of life, then there might be a change" Pardon me for asking, but isn't the whole problem the fact that these shooters seem to be demanding that they deserve a woman who is perfect in every aspect of life. You said yourself that people need to accept their own looks/personality and go for someone who is on their same level, so shouldn't that apply to women as well?
      Evolutionarily-speaking, women have always been the one who needs to be selective in choosing their mate, because they're the ones who carry the baby so their biological role has been deciding which mate has the best-fitting genes to create the strongest offspring. That's why women are turned on during ovulation and men are turned-on mostly all the time, if women were turned on all the time everyone would be fucking but it would be against the biological imperative to reproduce, if men were only turned on once a month nobody would ever fuck, this set-up is the best for a species to continue procreating.
      So women are naturally more picky than men, but it's because sex for us can result in a baby so we want to make sure whoever we're sexing will have strong genes to pass down. Apparently when a person smells good it means their immune system is opposite of yours, which results in stronger immune systems in potential offspring.
      Whereas men aren't as picky because for them the biological imperative is to spread their seed, they can't have their own babies so the chances of passing down your genes comes down to sexing as many ladies as possible to make their chances of reproduction greater.
      That's where the whole "women are picky/men will fuck anything" stereotypes come from at least.

    Maher is in the right ball-park, but on the WRONG base. The real problem is deeper than mere sexual frustration. The problem is machismo. The whole notion that a "real man" has to be tough and never show any weakness, and that to show any weakness even for a single moment is to fail at manliness. The TRUTH is: we ALL have some form or other of weaknesses, and nobody is completely free of vulnerability. Initially when boys express that they feel hurt, they're inevitably admonished to "stop being weak", to "man up", to "grow a thicker skin" and to "toughen up", but no matter how much one tries to be tough, there ALWAYS will be SOME-thing that can get through all that armor. When a believer of this machismo "philosophy" is presented with this unpleasant reality, they see no other choice but to lash out violently, in a desperate attempt to hide vulnerability behind a façade of aggression, as we've seen from these mass-shootings. The root of the problem is a culture of toxic masculinity that constantly promotes shallow, almost fetishistic worship of brute-strength, and simultaneously ridicules and even outright stigmatizes traits like mercy, sensitivity, caring, and compassion, as being "too girly".

    Well let's be honest. It's fundamentally unnatural for human beings to make it into their 20's and never having sex. That's a relatively new thing because of less death and greater security found in civilization. However our brains are still wired as we were ten thousand years ago living in small tribes with partners either chosen for us by our parents or being self selected pretty soon after we hit puberty because that was basically your only form of entertainment. Today we have school, work, video games, books, etc and yet it's not what our brains and bodies had adapted to so once again it's a case of us being too sophisticated for our own bodies.

Moreover, do you all also notice that the mothers are? it is a psychological fact that the majority of traumas to boys are directly related to their relationship or lack thereof with their fathers.
    This country has another epidemic that I am witnessing in real life. That is that many fathers are leaving their families to fulfill their carnal desires in the most entitled way. In other words, men in their "midlife crisis" seek the superficial American dream of being a Playboy. Boys are being raised by their mothers and fail to learn on how to be a good man because they have no ethical male role models to learn from. As a result we are dealing with their awkward offspring who can't relate to women and to society as a whole for that matter. The evidence is look at the divorce rate in this country in decades. The safest and balanced way is to say that yes, men (ALL men) aren't entitled to promiscuity, but likewise women (ALL women) aren't entitled to jump up and down and file bogus harassment charges simply when someone they happen not to 'fancy' expresses an interest in a relationship. Also, time to go easy on that hashtag as it's dead easy to stick a few unflattering words after it by way of generalization.

      Those "evolutionary needs" have been downplayed tho. Nowadays it is totally possible to be a basement dweller who just goes on the internet all day without consequence. Its not that men "can't" have a mate, they just don't want to have a mate who isn't as attractive as they want.
      That is the reality of the situation. Boys who see themselves as dateless and sexless are that way because it is a choice. Granted, it is a choice that becomes the default because the temptation to just hang out at the house and interact with people online is very great, but it is a choice nonetheless. But hookup and PUA culture tells them that they should feel like they are in prison because they are dateless/sexless.
      Most of these basement dwellers place the responsibility of their sex lives on women. They have no idea that they are giving their power away. But the way this culture talks about sex so much, it makes them paranoid. I wouldn't be surprised if half these school shooters have developed schizophrenic traits from all the shit they read on the internet.
      When people of both sexes stop judging men by their laycounts and by how socially intelligent they are, that's when we are gonna see progress.

      Genghis Khan wasn't mad at the world. He wanted to conquer it, probably because doing so would ensure that the flow of women would last forever.

    Bravo Bill Maher! Men’s Rights, this is an issue people need to start talking about to begin addressing some serious problems in society: mass shootings (100% male), homicides (80%+ male), and suicides (80%+ male). For thousands of years, men’s sex drive has propagated our species, and then over the last 50 years as society evolves with more equal rights for women, we are suddenly asking young men to turn-off their sex drive that has evolved over thousands of years. We need to start providing advocacy groups for Men’s Rights so young men do not feel disenfranchised.

    this is a problem with many determinants to it -- sexual frustration is one element.. but there are many others.. its simplistic to reduce this to even being mostly about sexual frustration.. each case has determinants that weigh more or less heavily on the end product.

    its true, ive seen the change in the last 30 years, if this country was having more sex, and not making sex bad or using it as a tool of manipulation, folks would be a lot happier, less arguing, less frustration, even things like less road rage, etc. , yes its true

    Just saying it is definitely more to it.

      @ponder2006 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter Smythe You mean Charles Manson. He is not the first person to suggest this, it has been well documented, lots of books written on the subject. People just don't want to admit it. But it is true. What do you think happens to young men who grew up sheltered playing video games with poor social skills, from unsupportive families when the time comes to meet girls-non of which is there fault, you can't fault a child, but now they blame society who they think is responsible. It is not magic, use common sense. Many will suffer through it, other will go to drugs and drinks, few will join the army "Generation Kill", and few will commit atrocities. If you takeaway the guns, the crazy ones will find something else.

    • @petersmythe6484
      @petersmythe6484 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ponder2006 Well Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Metallica, Eminem, others; have all been blamed for "causing" incidents of school violence. To me that is just such a cop out explanation, and so is; "because they didn't have sex".

    • @ponder2006
      @ponder2006 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that they are not having sex is the result. Most of these guys are antisocial, They have hard time making normal friends, having a regular conversation with people. As they grow to adulthood most of that anxiety and frustration is focused in to having a gf which they can't, they haven't developed the skill to have even a guy friend, all those people you mentioned didn't have a normal childhood, but they found an outlet in Music. Listen to Eminem's lyrics you understand his anger and pain, music saved him. Even if these guys paid for sex, they may still end up angry and frustrated even worse because, now they realize even sex can't remove the anger, social anxiety they feel inside. Bill nailed it, in that he underlines the boiling point which is Sex. The root cause that made them not have a friend to talk to is the real problem.

    The problem here is not getting sex; rather, the problem is misogyny. I'm surprised that Bill did not identify this trend as misogyny, an exemplar of the real danger that patriarchal values pose to the lives of women. I'm also disgusted by many of the comments on here that seem to suggest that we need to find a way for these young men to get more sex, rather than condemning them for letting their denied sexual urges amount to killing sprees. Trust me, women have just as strong of a sex drive as men, and there are plenty of sad and depressed women who can't get laid because they're not attractive, but you do not see this kind of violence being committed by these women. It's not the fact that these guys can't get laid that's the issue; it's the fact that they feel ENTITLED to getting laid, such that not getting laid justifies mass murder and suicide. The problem is not about sex, it's about misogyny.
