Just got a 2005 VRSCB with surging idle, stalling on idle or low-rpm deceleration. Also smell of fuel. I'm going to keep this vid do some more research. Thanks for sharing you knowledge!
@@samsotomayor8129 The smell of fuel was actually a corroded breather tube under the seat. I never figured out the cause of the idle problem but I slapped a Cobra PowrPro Black on it and the problem went away. A pricey fix but the piece of mind was worth it. You have to be careful though: I dialed up the PowrPro to see what the extra power would feel like and I lost traction and dumped my bike - could have been killed!
my 03 has a bit of a rough idle and some backfiring on decel but the main problem is big power loss at 80 to 100% full throttle, starts missing real bad and i back off the throttle some and it clears right up and the power comes back. think the idle valve could somehow cause that?
Hi Jerry. I put speakers on my bike. When I went to start it it kinda lacked power started off with a low idle. It’ll start fine sometimes it fires up like it should. But other times low idle. Just yesterday I could smell gas was rich. Do you know if this is iac related.
Must have misheard, what was the solution? My old IAC crapped out. I swapped it out after about 50 miles it died on me twice but i was able to get home. I let it run for 2 minutes didnt die. It generally dies while warming up
Hi Jerry, ok i have adjust the cables but same proplem, the neddle is jumping from 1000 to 1800 rpm, wen the engine gets hoter driving at slow speed etc the proplem get ewan worse, we got no dealer here in Iceland so if you have time all help is great.
the engine is running too lean causing surging. could be a number of things. water temp sensor/air temp sensor or a air leak below the throttle body. spray carb cleaner around lower throttle and see if engine speeds up. you can try to disconnect air temp sensor to see if that helps. (will put ECM in default for cold engine) may need aftermarket fuel controler, see TAB motorcycle on internet.
ok thanks Jerry for your time, it make sense couse the bike runs wery good on cold start but as soon as it heads up it starts to run bad on idle, i will chck this out.
Hi jerry, I have great Idling but stalling on the first and second gear with no throttle pulled, and running really lean and the power is good on low speed but very weak on high speeds specially after 80miles and runs very rough, this happened before and I changed every thing in the bike, fuel pump, spark plugs, cleaned injectors, air filter, took out the power commander and tested and put it back, changed oil and it went away by its self and suddenly it came back like flipping a switch after 3 months, auto tune map showed one cylinder running little bit leaner than the other. Pls help!! Should I open it and make sure that the valve screwed in and tight ? Mine is v rod muscle 2016
Hi jerry, another question, can I put back the crews for the idling motor or should I get new ones? And the new ones should I heat it up before I screw it in as it comes with the yellow adhesive on it, I was thinking more about lock tight on th old screws if I have to change it again one day would be just on and off job ? Whats ur suggestions?
@@jmellon13 Had the engine shut down while going 50kms a few times while excellerating on older 2002. Wonder if swapping this part out will solve the problem?
Hi I have a problem with my 2013 V-Rod when I start it on a cold start it runs good for about 5 minutes but then shuts off when I give it throttle I replace the fuel filter the straightener the idle sensor and injectors and it still giving me the same problem any suggestions of what it might be?

Sounds like some of the same problems i had before replacing the idle control valve. I did the same thing by disconnecting my power commander. I keep making it richer and richer . I would replace idle valve it may be causing a intermittent problem
If you break of a screw you will need to remove the whole throttle body to repair. screws are "lock tighted" in. May half to drill it out and get a larger self tapping screw.GOOD LUCK
Hello Jerry, can you help me out? i have chenged the idle motor and the bike is a litle bit better but it runs very rough on idle its screamin eagle type, any idea?
i would ajust the throttle cables as per Harley. You should be able to find the instructions on the internet somewere. they do a lot more than you would think. DO not ajust what looks like the throttle stop screw. That screw is for throttle balance so if you turned it before turn it back before ajustment of cables.

Did you figure out the problems? And what was the fix?

Where's the IAC located on the vrod

you don't have to heat up the screws to re install. If your not replacing the screws i would put a small amount of lock-tight on them.
Did you remove the throttle body before heating up the housing or leave it on? Don't want to remove it if I don't have to. Thank You.
throttle body does not need to remove screws
Does this fix the problem when your riding and bike's engine shuts off?
If you pull in the clutch when coming to a stop it will fix it. If that’s when your engine shuts down....
