POST no. 1 The show was Pauw & Witteman, a late-night talk show that ran for 8 seasons from 2006 to 2014. I believe this interview is from April 24, 2007. Dutch is my second language. I have done my best to transcribe the first two minutes of this clip and translate it into English. Any mistakes, namely in misunderstanding exactly what was said in Dutch, are my own: 0:01 ...maar toch kennen wij je om te beginnen natuurlijk van de hits van vroeger. And those people who come to your shows now because you're playing all kinds of new songs, you of course also want to play all those old hits for them.] Ja, als we optreden zeg maar nu overal in de wereld, dan doen we ongeveer 50 procent oud en 50 procent nieuw. En dat nieuw is voornamelijk dan van deze nieuw cd. [Yeah, when we're performing more or less you know anywhere in the world, we do about 50 percent old stuff and 50 percent new stuff. Between trying to understand the Dutch (I speak German and they are close) and the bad auto translate it seems that in the clip of Jan Akkerman he says he left Focus after thinking Thjis considered himself the genius of the group. Thjis replies he thought of them as two captains, and was sad the Jan left. Likely (to my thinking) Jan was the temperamental artist, and Thjis just wanted to get along, with both having strong artistic visions for the music. Familiar story.

It's hard to find the older shows anymore, even on websites like NPO Start, where I could only find episodes from May 2014. But after researching IMDb, I believe this interview is from April 24, 2007. On late night talk shows they tend to talk really fast and garble their words, especially the presenters, so (just like any language) it's much much more difficult to understand than when you're in an actual conversation. Even native speakers may have trouble understanding everything that is being said. I sometimes have to listen several times just to understand one sentence. For example, at 0:25 the auto-titles read: ze heel even naar is oud sluis om even een soort zo'n soort begin momenten hebben (which makes no sense). What Jeroen Pauw is actually saying: Zullen we heel even naar iets ouds luisteren om even een soort beginmoment te hebben? The bass player in that last clip from way back when (UK television, 1972) was Bert Ruiter, who passed away in 2022. As far as I know, Thijs and Pierre are still performing together in 2024. Anyway, I couldn't do this on my phone. I'm having to do this on my laptop, where I can pause and rewind much more easily.
