Whenever I make cold pasta salad my husband eats the entire container in a sitting lol. Little does he know I'm using whole grain pasta and as many veggies as i can get away with to make him healthier. ;) Cheap and delicious!
love this 😂
Haha same here!
You're doing something valuable, Michelle. Low food budgets don't have to be just ramen noodles. I appreciate what you're doing......Carla H.
Thank you 😁 I'm glad you like my video!
Very well done Michelle! Wow! I can’t believe you did all of that for five dollars ❤ Way to go! You’re the best! 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
You are such a master of making frugal meals that do not look like "frugal" meals. I love how you can stretch your veggies to make them go so far.
Thanks so much 😁 I'm glad you like my video
Beautiful and delicious meals. I would be pleased to serve each of those dishes. As always your video was a spot on tutorial. I wanted to share this frugal idea.....that I am sure is not my original......
After peeling a bag of apples I dried the skins in a dehydrator. They were especially dry and crisp. I put them in the blender with allspice and cinnamon and created a flavorful powder to sprinkle on toast or oatmeal. It also makes for a delicious tea add in.
Hi Sara 😁 Love this idea! I've been wanting a dehydrator. That sounds like a great use for apples.
What a cool idea
Michelle, what an excellent use of $5!! It didn’t seem like budget eating at all!! A friend just gifted me me with an air fryer, so I will have to try making hush puppies in it. I do love your videos! ❤
Thank you so much. 😁 Let me know how the hush puppies turn out in the air fryer.
I am impressed you made all those meals for $5!
Thank you 😁
All your meals looked fantastic. Feeding yourself nine meals for $5 is quite an accomplishment these days!
thank you 😁
I am making lentils soup now (brown lentils) and a chic pea curry. I love your meal ideas, inexpensive with clean ingredients.
Sounds delicious! 😋 One of my viewers told me that Whole Foods has black lentils, which I have yet to try. Those are on my bucket list. So far, I've loved ALL kinds of lentils. Glad you're enjoying my content.
Wow-ty for showing how to stretch those $$$-from Oklahoma!
Welcome 😁
With the hush puppies, the moistness and texture could also be because they had a chance to sit for a few days in the fridge and hydrate the flour and corn meal more thoroughly.
true 👍
Michelle, you literally ALWAYS pull through with amazing stuff. It's awesome. Thanks for sharing your gift of food planning and prep on unbelievably crazy budgets. That's taking your gift/skill and giving it wings because what you share 100% helps others. Great food on all budgets. Thanks, Heidi in Vancouver, BC Canada
Hi Heidi 😁 Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoy my videos! 🥰 Thanks for letting me know!
I added may be a tablespoon of melted butter and dash of vanilla extracts and a tiny bit of sugar to my jiffy mix and it always turned out extra yummy.
Thanks for sharing this 👍
Impressive as always! At first, I thought it was $5/ day, which is always great, but then you said 3 days! Wow. If additional beans were on sale, you could add beans to the pasta salad as well as the minestrone. Even garbanzos would work. You gave me some new ideas on how to use up some garden veggies and muffin mix. Thanks!
Thank you 😁 Glad this video inspired you!
Here is something I do. Maybe it will give someone the idea that works for me. Each time I open a jar or a can of something like a pasta sauce, tomato paste, cream, pimentos, or chopped onion, peppers, etc. I put some into a 1 tablespoon silicone mold, then freeze. When frozen, I pop it out, then store in the freezer. Then when I need a dab of something for my recipe and money is tight, I have small amounts of seasonings to add to my food. Also, nothing goes to waste, even that last little bit in a jar. Works for orange juice, just everything. I save my plastic peanut butter jars for freezer storage and label the lid with contents and date. I picked up my mold at a flea market for .50 cents. An ice cube tray would work too.
Love this tip 👍 thanks for sharing with us!
@@ArdentMichelle Maybe this could be a video topic, or a short segment at the end of a video.
So cute how you say lentil like lenel, sounds so much more adorable ❤ not making fun, I really think it’s super cute. Great video, as always, thank you!
Welcome 😁
Another knockout!!! Winter has arrived where I live and a lentil curry will be so yummy. Thanks for having not one but 2 for me to add to my saved recipes. I saw your cookbook binder and fell in love. I'm in Canada but I managed to find the same thing in the Amazon store here. I don't know why but many times the stores are radically different You are so creative, thank you for the hard work you put into your channel and menu plans. You are helping countless people and families. ❤❤
Thanks so much. 🥰 Yeah... I love that recipe binder. I think I added it to my Amazon store also. Glad you liked this weeks video!
Very nice! This style of cooking is my favorite on your channel, with most all scratch ingredients. Everything looked so good!
Thank you so much 😊 It's my favorite too.
I've been adding melted butter and oil to my Jiffy mix since the 80s when I raised my family. It makes the cornbread so yummy♡
Thanks for sharing this. 👍I thought it would make it better.
Cornbread muffins with hot dogs great lunch
You are so creative and you managed to make a lot of good food for very little money. Well done!
Thank you so much 😊
Yeah, she's good at that.
Hi Michelle, great video, I use that Jiffy cornbread too, of course I like cornbread from scratch but those little boxes can really come in handy. I don't know why but I have never thought to make them in a mini muffin pan. On Halloween we are having a potluck at our community clubhouse and along with what I am bringing I am going to make mini muffins, thanks to you. Also I haven't made minestroni soup in a while and it sounds good, thats why I love this time of year, so many soup recipes. That Thai Curry recipe looked pretty tasty 😉😉. Have a great week and see you next Sunday.. Charlotte
Hi Charlotte 😁 You might want to adjust the cooking time down if you make the mini muffins. They'll be moister that way. Thanks again for the spices 💜 See you Sunday!
Wow, you did really great this time. Whenever I think I don’t have anything in the house, I just watch one of your videos and realize there is so much I could make! ❤️
Glad you like this video! 😁 Thanks for letting me know 🥰
An excellent video with great choices. We eat mainly meatless meals.
Another great savings is to keep an herb and vegetable garden
Thanks so much. 😁 Having a garden would be so nice.
@@ArdentMichelle - I have enough land now to grow a years worth of carrots, beans, greens, tomatoes and quite a bit more!
But, I started in a couple of 5 gallon buckets. I started with potatos that had started sprouting, and with green onions from the store when times were tight. There is always a way to grow a little something!
@@christines2787 That's awesome. 👍The last time I tried to grow cilantro without grow lights, I had to throw them out. It made me so sad. 😞 Just not enough light near my one window. I live in a cave.
@@ArdentMichelle - that does make it hard. And normal lights just don't do it. The first year I started tomatoes and peppers from seed, I used a closet as a grow room. The light was wrong and even though they did sprout they were all leggy and all the tomatoes died. The peppers did a bit better. 2 out of 12 lived. Very discouraging.
Your obviously able to find great quality vegetables at an excellent price.
Mayo added as the oil to jiffy works fantastic and using it to make cheap biscuits works too!
Enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing as always. Have a blessed and beautiful day 🥰
Thanks so much 😁 you too!
Great job, I love the small meals for one. I will be waiting send more.😊😊
Thanks so much 😁 Meals for one work best for me since I only cook for myself these days. I try to mix in some family videos here and there.
I miss Soup Plantation! We had Sweet Tomatoes (same company) and it was AMAZING!
I was hoping they would come back after the pandemic. Not sure why they didn't.
As a Canadian I am quite envious that you can get that many varieties of ingredients for 5.00. I figured out I might only be able to get 2-3 things from your ingredients for that price. What you got if I shopped creatively would cost me about double. Even our dollar stores e.g. DollarTree's lowest price is 1.50 per item now plus tax. Great recipes!
that's a bummer that groceries are so much higher in Canada 😞
Love your channel. Your recipes are so creative and smart. Could you do a video showing how to feed a family of 4 for a week for $40?
My bigger budget videos don't do well. It seems my viewers love the extreme budgets, but any of my videos are customizable. Here's one where I did $42 for the week for 4 people.
th-cam.com/video/WDPEQFNxSp0/w-d-xo.html
I'll probably soon do more for $20-$25 per week
and thanks for the complement. 😁 I'm glad you enjoy my videos!
Very impressive! Amazingly healthy, beautiful in appearance. I’d happily eat these meals anytime! That they comprised 9 meals for $5, is nearly unbelievable! I subscribed!
Say whaaaaad? i had no clue red lentils had that much protein. Wowser. Thank you + may Yeshua bless you and yours.
Thank you 😁 and same to you!
Once again a hit! I don’t do a lot of pasta or cornbread anymore-Lord knows there was a day when a piece of cornbread with pickles and buttermilk was my go to tired meal!- but no more.
Yet, you have inspired us once again. I have a few veggies that really need to be used and some green lentils so maybe I will do a quick soup tonight! Thank you, keep up the great work!😊
Thanks Penny 😁 I haven't yet tried the cornbread with pickles. Are you putting the cornbread and pickles in the buttermilk?
@@ArdentMichelle yep! It’s amazing
Well done as always. I would have made dhaal too. Love the new soup bowls, just in time for soup season too! I love how cheap jalapenos are there and you using them as an ingredient often. Thanks Michelle
Thanks so much 😁
Love this video. Can't wait to try curry / lentil soup recipe
Thanks Lisa 😁
Lentil protien is outstanding! For very little money we can nourish ourselves. It is so important in these times. Thank you.
Welcome. 😁 Thank YOU for watching!
thanks again, you always have such creative ideas
My pleasure 😊
It's amazing how a few spices can create a brand new dish with the same ingredients. I think people under estimate the value of keeping a nice variety of spices in their cabinet. That way, if you're tired of eating the same thing, throw some different spices in and bam! You've got something completely different tasting and delicious. You really did an outstanding job with such few ingredients!
I love this video! Australian equivalent prices in November 2023 are $11.29. I substituted wheat flour for cornbread since its not a popular food here and its very expensive. By australian standards this makes 9 meals for $1.25 each, which is still pretty great.
Thanks for sharing equivalent prices with me. 😁 I probably purchased sale items for this video, so it would probably be hard to replicate exactly even in other parts of the U.S. but that being said, a person could always sub out whatever veggies are on sale in their area at the time. Love hearing costs around the world.
Michelle, you are pretty amazing! Not only is the budget excellent but the food seems tasty, nutritious & visually attractive. Thanks for all of your efforts. They are appreciated. Did you get another job?
Thank you 😁 Nope not yet, I've been mostly applying for jobs that are such that I can continue with my channel. I have my eyes on a federal job that I want, but it takes months to even get to the interview stage 😞
Good Luck & God Bless!
Hi Michelle, for some reason I'm not getting all the notifications for your videos. I was pretty sure that you put one out on Sunday or Monday so I looked you up and sure enough you did have one up, Yay! Your food looks delicious and I love the way you use so many different spices. I'm definitely going to make some of those veggie dishes but since I'm cutting down on carbs I will use less pasta (I love pasta!) Zuchinni is my favorite veggie, I chop them up with S&P and olive oil and roast them in the oven. Those hush puppies look quick and easy, that will be on our menu too! Thanks for another great video!! 🤗😊💖
Hi Vinny 😁 Not sure why you aren't getting the notifications if you've enabled them. 🤔 Just remember that I usually release on Sunday mornings at 8:00 Pacific Standard Time. Glad you like my video. Thanks for letting me know. 🥰
I like that you use fresh veg. I'm really struggling right now and I crave fresh veg most of all. Canned things are nice to have but they are cooked very done and I'm not a lover of salty things. I'm not complaining, l'm very grateful to have food at all. Just missing things. Thank you for your videos, I like going shopping with you.😊
My mom cooked southern-style. She put very finely minced onions in her hush puppies.
oh I bet those onions were very good in the hush puppies. 👍 yum.
I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. I too love fresh vegetables. I have to try to make myself use more canned and frozen because I know not everyone has the access to cheap fresh foods like I do.
Thank YOU for watching my videos! 🥰
Looks great! I alwsys add 2+ Tablespoons of melted butter to the Jiffy mix. And sometimes jalapeño and cheese (dinner) or sausage and cheese (breakfast). I love those mixes, so quick and easy. Plus my husband prefers the mix to scratch.
I've had a lot of fun with those Jiffy mixes over the years.
Whole food Plant based is the cheapest and healthiest way to eat! 😁
The reason they don’t tell you to add oil to the jiffy mix is because it already has lard in it
I didn't realize it has lard. I much prefer oil in my cornbread. Some viewers have said they add oil and it does help the consistency so I guess I'll have to try it. I'll probably start buying the vegetarian one.
I’d love to see more Indian food. I love spicy food, but many times, my mouth can’t handle it so I need to make it myself. I tried looking up how to make some things and even though I am an experienced cook, I’m so intimidated. Also, I mention you all the time so I hope you have new people finding you.
awe..thanks so much for mentioning me 🥰
This is a really great video, I love a good soup and lentils are one of my favorites, thank you😊
Thanks for watching! 😁 I'm glad you like this one.
Your creativity never ceases to amaze me ❤
Thank you so much 😀Glad you like this one!
Love your ideas! They look so tasty it is hard to believe they are so budget friendly.
I have had a real thing for Indian food lately and have been looking for some other ways to use lentils.
Have you ever done a type of pan fried lentil "patty?" I'm thinking about it.
I made lentil patties in one of my videos but I don't remember which one....or was it split yellow peas? 🤔 hmmm...don't remember. I love Indian food too.
I learn so much from your channels - each video is very inspiring for me to stop wasting food and cook creatively!! Thank you!
You are so welcome! 🥰 I'm glad you are enjoying my channel.
I don’t remember how I found your channel, but I’m glad I did. Besides being very calming, they’re very helpful. I’m trying to keep us on a tight food budget to get some things paid off and you’ve given me not just ideas of meals to make, but permission to shop and cook in a way that has saved us money and kept us full with tasty meals. You and another budget friendly channel have helped me gain a new perspective and I really appreciate that. Plus I love seeing snippets of my home, California 💜
I'm so glad my channel has been helpful 😁 Thanks so much for letting me know🥰 and hello neighbor. Where are you at?
@@ArdentMichelle We used to live in Fullerton, but moved to Oklahoma a year ago so we could buy a house. I love seeing the SoCal scenery when you’re out and about.
@@MessyPaperCrafter I love house prices in Oklahoma...but I don't love tornadoes! So scary!
@@ArdentMichelleI totally get that! We’ve been here a year and had to use our shelter once, thankfully the tornado didn’t touch down in our area. It can be scary, but I also love weather and storms. They totally fascinate me. I’ve seen some beautiful lightning storms and yea, the winds get crazy.
Wow! That was amazing and to have left overs 😯 great job!
Thank you 😁
Great video! So much flavor and not hard to make. Great budget ideas!
Thanks so much! 😁
You can make a souffle omelette which could make you feel like you have eaten more than you have ❤
Thanks for another great video. See you next time.
Welcome 😁 thank YOU for watching!
You are such a treasure. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much 😀
We do a lot of scrambled eggs, we add whipped cream cheese to the eggs. It makes it creamy and custard-like, like a classic French omelette.
I bet that's really good!
@@ArdentMichelle it is. My special needs adult daughter has a special diet. We put cream cheese into whatever we can.
Great video! I need to do red lentil curry soon.
Thank you 😁
I eat a gluten free English muffin at breakfast frequently which is mostly cornmeal based. I really enjoy it..
That sounds delicious!
You are so talented. I have learned so much from you. Every time I watch, I come away with knowledge. thankyou sooo much.
Welcome 🥰
Silly question…but do the red lentils taste a lot different from just regular lentils?
I feel they taste a bit sweeter. The main difference to me is they cook so quickly and start falling apart quickly. Which is good for certain dishes. For others, it's less desirable for me at least
Not really, they still have a slightly peppery flavor but a little less so.
I'm going to try the lentil currg!
Yay! 🥳 Hope you enjoy!
Thank you for the great recipes! I'm especially liking the lentil. I've always wanted to try them but I didn't know how to go about it.
Welcome 😁 Glad you like this.
So savvy! And those bowls are very attractive. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰
Thank you 😁
❤
Amazing for $5 3 days of meals. Where did you get the small packet of siracha? Thank you
My son brought them home from work.
usually when I get in cooking mode it's to be healthy and I cringe at the videos being so generous with the oil but was watching one (not sure if I had found yours at the time but not sure whose...)anyways, on that video the woman pointed out that on limited funds (this was college students) that oil was a way to get in needed calories and that was a wow moment for me as I hadn't thought about the calories as I've always had MORE than enough calories...
yes that's very true 👍
I l ike to buy a bag of frozed diced onion to use for eggs and other cooked meals - so convenient. same with bell pepper and even found squash and zucchini though I prefer those fresh. I also like eggs with pinto beans sometimes and salsa
Buying the chopped onions is a great idea since they are kind of a pain to chop up. I like beans with eggs also.
You show that eating on a budget means you can have beautiful and tasty foods. I've watched your videos for quite some time and I finally joined your facebook and insta (like the kids say). I haven't really used instagram much, but it seems more interactive, so I'm going to give it a try. I'm not feeling well this week. Have you ever thought of a "under the weather" foods video?
Hi Michelle 😁 I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well. 😞 Not a bad idea for a video. Thanks for joining me on Instagram and Facebook. 🥰 I'm trying to get better at posting on those platforms. My plan is to post more pics of what I eat throughout the week. I hope you feel better soon 🌸🤗Take care of yourself.
I love your channel so much! Everything is simple and nutritious. I also like the smaller portion sizes.
Thanks so much!
Hey just wanted to let you know that if you read the ingredients, Jiffy mix cornbread has lard in it. So it does contain fat. There is a vegetarian version as well that contains vegetable oil.
Just found that out, so weird- dehydrated lard. Some of my viewers mention that they add oil and it does improve the texture- I still need to try it. I'll probably start buying the vegetarian box because I prefer to use oil.
SouPlantation!!! I remember it so fondly😊
It was the 1st place I ever had (or even heard of) Loaded Baked Potato Soup. Soooo delicious with their fantastic salad bar.
and there's something about an all you can eat buffet that's awesome. 😁We don't really have any other buffets like that around here. Such a bummer!
Well Done.
Thank you 😁
tonight it made banana dinner rolls. we aren't huge banana bread fans so I found a recipe on YT for the rolls and have made them twice with a brown sugar cinnamon butter.
Thanks for the heads up on this. I see several different kinds of recipes online. Are you using yeast?
Thank you! I love your channel so much .I finally made an omelette..in a better way!
Yay! 🥳 Glad you're enjoying my videos and your omelette turned out great!
Thank you for doing this I had no idea you had that recipe for the dressing I am definitely going to try it. You gave me some really good ideas.
Glad you like this video! Yes, try that dressing. I love it so much! 😋👩🍳 Hope you enjoy!
Michelle, I used to use the flour in the corn bread mix all the time. I had one box, and four little ones to feed.
understood 👍 and I bet it was delicious! 😁
You are a credit to your community
awe..thank you 🥰 This comment means a lot to me. So grateful for viewers like you!
I always wanted to try Soup Plantation but never got to ☹️😢
I was hoping they would come back. 🤞
I love that a lot of your videos are vegan and vegetarian, even if it is unintentional. Just a note that Jiffy cornbread has lard in it for viewers like me that prefer not to have animal products.
Wow. Your amazing to get such delicious and nutritious dishes on such a small amount of money. Speaking of dishes- nice bowls. Perfect size. I over cooked my omelette a tad. So what you saw was the inside, it was folded open. That was Portuguese sausage. Red lentils are a favorite. They cook quickly. Blooming the spices is so nice. Adding tomato paste if I have it is a bonus. I don’t add salt till the end. Hush puppies are a childhood favorite with fried fish on Friday. Stewed tomatoes on pasta was a end of week meal. Thanks for the salad dressing recipe too.💚 I will post on FB my next red lentil soup
Hello 😁 Thanks for clarifying about the sausage and sharing your food pics. Love seeing those! 🥰 Glad you like this one!

Excellent meals! We don’t eat meat so I get the Vegetarian Jiffy Mix when I buy it because the original has lard in there.
I didn't realize it had lard in it. I'll probably start buying the vegetarian too, because I definitely prefer oil in mine.
@@ArdentMichelle I know! (Same thing we have to watch out for with canned refried beans.) Recently my Walmart was selling the regular Jiffy Mix for .15 which was crazy, like you I don’t use it very often because I always have cornmeal, but I picked up several boxes and I was looking at the ingredients and was really surprised to see lard listed, I guess I expected vegetable shortening.
It all looks great!!
Thank you 😁
Well done!!!
Thanks Wendie 😁 Hope you are having a great week.
So good!
Glad you like 😁
I would like to use red lentils more often and I know you’ve featured them often. Have you done a video just on different lentil dishes?
Hello 😁 No I haven't. Videos like that don't do well on my channel. Otherwise I would love to do that. That's my favorite thing to do...take a deep dive on one ingredient.
@@ArdentMichelle Interesting. I wonder why videos like that don’t do well . Do you think it’s because viewers want to see a $ amount in the title?
@@SheilaEnglish2 yes, I think the majority of viewers want to see what I come up with on a fixed very extreme budget. I also think that a lentil themed video would be a hard sell to some of my viewers 😂
It's amazing how a few spices can create a brand new dish with the same ingredients. I think people under estimate the value of keeping a nice variety of spices in their cabinet. That way, if you're tired of eating the same thing, throw some different spices in and bam! You've got something completely different tasting and delicious. Clever use of the ingredients. Lentil soup 🍜 is always filling on a cold day.
Just shows what you can cook up with $5.
Very good video🎉
Glad you like my video! 😁
I think eating for a day on $5 would be tough, forget 3 days! Brilliant lady, brilliant.❤
Thanks so much 🥰
Nice! The Jiffy regular mix contains lard, so I always get the vegetarian version. It is only a few cents more.
Thank you 😁
You are inspirational- showing people that budget can be tasty and nutritious on a budget.
Thank you 😁
Your food always looks delicious. I want to make the lentil curry!
I'm glad you think so. 😁 Thanks for letting me know 🥰
Thank you Michelle they were some great meals on such a low budget .xx
Welcome 😁 so glad you like this video!
So inspiring!

Bravo!!!
Thank you 😁
I wish Jiffy was vegetarian.
They do make a vegetarian version now that I can usually find at my Walmart.
I wish I lived near Wholesome Choice or a Winco
I just looked and my Walmart has the vegetarian Jiffy mix for .62
Or you could make up your own little mixes in advance and put them in plastic bags.
Sometimes Aldi has a cornbread muffin mix w/o lard…
Thanks everyone. I will look again.
you cooked the lentils wrong
how so?
