They had a number of much larger boats on the yard while we were there. Its always better to be on the smaller size rather than larger

You are convenience sailors who do not bother to do it yourself on board.. You just pay others to do the work.. The good thing about having a boat is of course to sail but also to do things yourself.. Thats is sailing spirit.. I have seen 1000 sailing videos, but this is the first time i see a sailing couple who just pay others to fix the engine, the heater, the cushions, the eletric wind generator and now the paint..

Claus, thanks for the feedback. This was a long planned stop for the upgrade of the hydrogenerator and to have the extensive work done on the diesel. We simply don't have the experience, tools nor inclination to tackle projects of that magnitude. Bottom paint is something we could easily do but again, not where we choose to spend out time and effort. Note that over the past 18 months we've fixed virtually every issue ourselves as we had no other option. Repairing our electronics and spectra watermaker after a near-miss lighting strike is just one example.
We are sailors and our focus both personally and here on the channel, is the sailing and travel experience. Since September we've traveled from Nicaragua to the Galápagos, back to Panama for a transit and now 5 days reaching during the Christmas winds to make the Caymans.
We do include repairs as they impact our journey and also try and call out where we find good mechanics so that others who follow can benefit from our experience.
As you've pointed out, there are lots of great channels where the focus is on the work of rebuilding or maintaining a boat. That's not for us but luckily you have those options to watch.
      Cheers,
      Kevin and Carla
