Harangi Dam is an interesting place to visit for those who are looking to go away from the crowd and want to spend more time with nature.
Harangi dam is located about 9 km away from the heart of Kushalnagar town. Its 95 Kms from Mysore and 230 kms from Bangalore
Harangi dam is the first Dam to have been built across River Cauvery. Harangi river is a tributary of Kaveri river.
Entry Fee: You have to buy tickets to explore the Harangi Dam. The entry fees per person is as follows:-
Rs. 10 per adult
Rs. 5 per children
Rs. 10 for parking
Timings : 8 AM to 6 PM
Musical Fountain : 7PM to 7:30 PM
Best Time to visit: Monsoon or post monsoon - between August to September
Chiklihole reservoir
Chiklihole dam is a small reservoir built across the river Chiklihole which is a tributary of the Kaveri. The dam is located about 7km from Dubare elephant camp and about 15 km from Kushalnagar town near Coorg.
The unique shape of the dam in itself is a great attraction for visitors. The dam has a semi-circular structure without any crest gates. With the increase in inflow, the water overflows like foam on curved structure and offers a breathtaking sight to visitors.
No entry fee to visit Chiklihole Reservoir. Timings 8am to 5pm. The place is often frequented by locals for day-long picnics. Watching the sunset from the dam is a wonderful experience. As the place is a remote one, there is no store or shop offering any kind of facilities to travellers. Visitors must come prepared with food, water and snacks if they want to spend a relaxing day or even a few hours in the vicinity of the dam.
The best time to visit the dam is during the seasons of monsoon and winter (June to March) as during that time the weather is pleasant, the water level increases in the dam and the view is splendid.
