So many comments from people that couldn't get theirs to run right...I had no such issues. I owned a couple of the Dragsters in red (decals)/white/blue, and the Bob Glidden Pinto. I used to set up string lines on nails in the local church parking lot, and I had them pop the chutes, and everything. These were awesome. I wish someone would bring them back, as we now bid farewell to the stinkwheel, and everything goes electric from now on... I love the smell of nitro in the morning.
The dragster was the first COX model i owned and it got me hooked even though i never did get it running down the line to trip the parachute. That was at christmas 1972 when i was 10.The "Ski-Doo" TNT Silver Bullet was the "neatest" one i owned and i found that most of them were hard to start even with the "pull start" which was on the "Dune Buggy".
Hey what is the voltage that you used to heat the glow plug I just found one a Eliminator 2 Blue car in nearly perfect condition with all the decals and stickers on it
I had the purple dune buggy and borrowed the dragster from a friend. Both a were bitch to start, always. Anyway, with the dragster I set up the line down the sidewalk per directions, and I got the rail started. I leaned that thing out so badly it was screaming to explode. Well, before I could set it up to go down the sidewalk, the motor froze because I had it revving so high. Needless to say, I had to buy the kid a new dragster. Ah, lessons learned: lean is mean, but blows up motors. Great times as a kid!!!
My brother and I received the Cox Dragster II for Christmas, maybe about 1974 we had no idea how to get it to work, it sat in the box in our bedroom closet for years, it never was taken out of the box, I have no idea what happened to it.We move out of that old house years ago it's probably still in that closet.
L.O.L.R.O.T.F Me & my best kid bud use to buy and " TRY" and play with every thing Cox. Same thing every time just about with the funny car's. Ahh the good old days thanks ;)
He wastes our time because he does not know what he is doing, which raises the question why do a video showing you don't know what you are doing. That car is designed to run along a string that is attached to the ground. This makes the car go straight and be in control. At the far end of the string you would tie it in a triangle shape. When the car reached the triangle of string a lever was tripped which shut off the engine and deployed the drag chute, and the triangle shape also acted as a brake slowing the car rapidly.
These were pretty impressive cars when done right. I had a Pinto funny car that really screamed. The only problem was I didn`t have enough good road surface to run the full length with the `chute. Had to run it into a pillow. Too bad they don`t make `em anymore.A dragster and funny car can both new in box are on ebay for over a thousand each. (sigh), if only I had money to burn.
just a thought, how much nitro in your fuel? most of those l 049s go a lot better on 20 to 30% nitro or more if you can afford it, interesting though, ive never seen these dragsters b4

on my pinto funny car you tied a bead in the string, that shut the engine down.

When you have the little ring on the line it opens the chute and rotates the cut off manifold

Why don't you start recording, then put the phone in your pocket for a few minutes? It would be more interesting and informative.
